EXCLUSIVE: Marketer and producer Krishnan Menon has inked a first-look deal with Fox TV Studios. Under the pact, FtvS will have first crack at Menon’s TV and Internet projects, which Menon intends to develop with appropriate brands attached. Cool. Literally, the smartest guy I have ever met. Blew me away. Hope something truly pop-cultural comes out of this.
How did “Heir Apparent” and “Genius Bar” turn out? Any Menon has partnered with Brillstein, Mark Burnett, and Bunim/Murray on what exactly? A fantasy football team? How about some actual info.
And, how about tv studioes making deals with ACTUAL writers.
I’m sure tons of quality will emerge from this.
Joe, I think studios are making plenty of deals with writers. I now work at NUTS and we have made 4 just in the last 2 months that I know of. But I also think that it’s imperative for studios to be looking beyond traditional places for traditional writers. Especially with the wave of micro content that’s emerged.
I’m not sure why you’re knocking someone else’s gig. Menon’s the real deal. He’s managed by Brillstein, partnered with Mark Burnett on the first two seasons of Celebrity Apprentice to integrate brands into the show, and is pitching a show with Bunim/Murray that he created called “Return to the Prom”. I’m a big fan of his, and I know a lot of the studio execs that are as well.
Agreed. He’s a genius. Heard him give a talk to the entire management team at NBC a couple of years ago. Ridiculously cool. I think he’s good friends with Kevin Reilly, so maybe that’s the connection to this deal.
As an Indian Woman and a Writer… TOTALLY F-ING AWESOME!!! Krishnan is the man!!!
He told me when he moved to LA he dialed a phone number that he wanted as his own, and whomever answered he offered them $$ to give it to him. Never thought of doing that before – - -smart smart guy in very practical ways.
So happy for him!! Best Hollywood pitchman I’ve ever seen, period…was a junior exec in a pitch he made to my former network…ive never seen anyone tell a story like that. super nerdy about brands and advertising too…cant wait to see what he comes up with!!
Awesome! More product integration!! “Genius Bar” would’ve been an awesome way to help make Apple a viable company, they could use the help. Can’t wait to see Menon’s new show, “Crabtree and Evelyn.”
Branded entertainment is a core part of our industry now. And if the previous commenter had actually READ “Genius Bar”, he would know that the brands don’t feature in a placement-type way at all. As a fellow marketer, I think its exciting that a major studio is starting to make deals with storytellers from the brand world!! Go Krishnan!!
“Storytellers from the brand world? ” You mean like the guys that gave us Cavemen? I’d love to comment more, but I have to go tear my eyes out.
Excellent! All our good wishes are with you
Overall deals are fairly easy to come by, its all about the dollar amount and output flow, but at the lower level no name ones (like this one), they are pretty easy. The bigger deals and production company deals, much harder. Spin a good story, talk up some brands and they will lock you up out of fear not excitement, i know because i am a studio exec that cuts these exact deals. All these comments are fine, but its really all about the product, as simple as that. come up with a hit and all naysayers disappear. The track record in this case is fairly meaningless and paltry, so lets all see shall we.
