Mercedes Masohn has landed the female lead opposite Ben Whishaw in Alan Ball’s pilot for HBO All Signs of Death. Rounding out the cast are Ron Yuan, Jeremy Ray Valdez, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali and Kelsey Ford, who have joined previously locked Whishaw and Clayne Crawford. The dark comedic drama, based on Charlie Huston’s 2009 crime noir novel The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death, centers on Webster Filmore Goodhue (Whishaw) an inveterate twenty-something slacker who stumbles into a career as a crime scene cleaner, only to find himself entangled with a murder mystery, a femme fatale and the loose ends of his own past. Masohn, repped by Greene & Assoc. & Luber/Roklin, will play Soledad Nye, a beautiful young Latina femme fatale who drags Web into a triple bucket of trouble. Ball is executive producing and directing the pilot, which was written by Huston. Filming is slated to start filming in Los Angeles later this month.

This should be a clear wakeup call to casting directors. You know who you are. CD’s on auto pilot who will not see talent repped by the top 10. Here we have Greene as agents and Lubner as manager. These are low on the pole companies and now they have a star on a top anticipated HBO show.
Take a look at the top 20 active Cd’s. They are just message takers today. There is no creative casting or passion to find new talent.
Thank God I’m not on the tenches today.
Greene & Assoc & Luber/Roklin – not Lubner are far from low on the pole companies. They are very strong boutique companies that compete with the 5 large companies – both companies having over 25 series regulars on their lists. Luber/Roklin also handles Stephen Moyer – the star of “True Blood” & Greene & Assoc. has a lead regular on “True Blood” as well
No reason to put down casting directors – they work in the trenches all day just as all of us other hard working agents & managers.
The Trenches are the only place to be!
Before you make a blanket generalization, maybe you should be sure to PROOF READ your comments. That posting states that CDs (not apostrophe needed) “will not see talent repped by the top 10″.
And I believe the phrase is IN THE TRENCHES not ON THE TENCHES.
Well said, Jayson.
Are you kidding? What a putz you are. Do you even know these actors?
Jayson, I’m sure you meant CDs will only see talent repped by the top 10. It’s almost impossible to get talent seen today. The closest thing an actor can get to a casting ‘meeting’ is a pre-read of usually a very minor role. I know the business is changing but this practice is not serving creativity. I have much better luck contacting producers before they hire a casting director. If someone has graduated from a well known arts college, was chosen to be in a network showcase and has several solid credits, plus a great look and talent why should it be so hard to get them an audition?
Hopefully this is just as great as True Blood is.

So she’s really Swedish but looks Latina to me. All I remember her from is “Entourage” as Vince’s back home GF from Queens. Seems to have been working steady for years according to her resume.
Good for her. Hopefully this won’t be another good HBO pilot that for whatever mysterious reason doesn’t make it to air.
where she was born? sweden? think again
Jayson,
Your comment makes no sense….Libby Goldstein is a great casting director and discovers terrific talent…I’m sure you’re just mad you didn’t get an audition because you’re a doorman at the W that’s being hip-pocketed by an assistant at a big agency and has no credits but a GS role on CSI Miami
Really looking forward to this one. Charlie Huston is the best pulp/noir writer working. I’m no Whishaw fan but enough good people are involved to keep me interested. Anyone want to loan me the cash to buy the rights to Charlie’s Joe Pitt series?
Good goin’ Alan Ball, hiring a Swede to play a Mexican. I’ll be sure to pass on this one.
God forbid there’d be a talented Swede who could ever play a Mexican. She’s not your average Swede, take another look.
I clicked to read more of this article in the hopes that HBO was finally launching a new series that would appeal to a female audience, something that has been sorely lacking in the past few years. In fact, I’ve found the programming so deadly dull, so geared towards post-adolescent males, that I canceled my HBO subscription a few months ago. Yet, when I read the description of this series, yet another film noir detective drama, my eyelids started to droop again. Big yawn! HBO, bring back your previous programming guy, the one who greenlit Sex and the City and the Sopranos. The hetero guy currently running programming is still in his boxer shorts on the couch, watching a football game with a can of beer in his hand.
Ditto the comment on Huston.
And Ron Yuan is definitely under appreciated (Prison Break). But hopefully this will be his big breakthrough for those who haven’t seen him.
Alan Ball + HBO means a hit!
Yes Good Goin’ Alan – her Father is Colombian & Mother is Swedish – get your facts right
Hopefully this will be just as great as True Blood is!
Ron Yuan will blow the rest of the cast away. This mans got serious chops…and he is an ass kicken writer director. The shorts he wrote and directed for Sony Action Theater (Crackle) would make Tarentino go back to film school.
Just watch Ben Whishaw act everyone else off the screen! He’s the only one you end up looking at because of his talent.
Oh HECK yes, Ben is AMAZING. I am in love with him and can’t WAIT to see this show. My only question is…when will we get to see it?!
