After the parade of vampire TV series, AMC is giving equal time to flesh eating zombies. Frank Darabont’s The Walking Dead starts its run on Halloween, October 31st, with a 90-minute premiere at 10 PM, but the cable network has put up a teaser.

I haven’t heard a Southern accent that bad since Kyra Sedgwick’s “Closer” — especially in the first scene. I think the lead is British, right? AMC should spring for a better voice coach. Otherwise, show looks awesome.
second
it’s Australian meets Ozark.
How are zombies now worth a tv series when it’s been done to death!
PUN INTENDED!!!!!!!
nothing about zombies is scary or original or the slightest bit interesting…every angle has been so played out.
In the comic, “The Walking Dead” is not so much about the zombies, but about the breakdown of society and the struggle of the survivors to maintain their basic humanity. This theme has been suggested in several zombie films, but never fleshed out in the way the comic does. If this AMC series stays faithful to the spirit of the comic, then it will be well worth watching.
Pokey’s right. This trailer doesn’t even scratch the surface of what the show is really about. The graphic novels are intense, emotionally punishing reading… and thrilling at the same time. I’m reminded of the way Henri Georges-Clouzot could slowly unravel your sanity in films like Daibolique and Wages of Fear. Seriously.
Shane = WOW! A FILM literate person!! I am so very, very impressed. La Salaire de la Peur (Wages of Fear) is on my FB favorite film list but I figure no one knows what the hell it is. It is my all-time favorite film. And Diabolique! May I ask what generation you are in? I am curious because so few Americans have seen this film. I guess I should not assume you are even American. I am just curious. Merci, Elizabeth
Sweeet!!!!! Can’t wait to see the episodes with Norman Reedus!!
Fucking GREAT trailer!
AGREED
This looks awesome!!! I’ll be watching!!!!
Alternate title: 28 Days Later, without the urgency.
Amen. I expect Danny Boyle and Co. should be getting remake money for this right?
Because Danny would have to give all the “remake money” to Stephen King for ripping of “The Stand.” (Stu Redman – Gary Sinese – wakes up in a hospital bed to find the whole world is dead)
This recent Zombie Zeitgeist is both fascinating and unnerving.
There are so many fucked-up things in society that can’t be openly discussed, they end up surfacing in popular fiction about the walking undead…
Very late comment, but this did remind me of The Stand. It has to be one of my favorite King novels. I was always wondering what The Stand would be like with zombies. It would probably be something like this.
Did Danny Boyle give remake money to George A. Romero?
Boyle admittedly ripped off ‘Day of the Triffids’ and paid a handsome settlement.
Too bad anyone who has read the comics will know the plotlines for the next oh, 8 seasons
Yeah, why can’t AMC learn from the failures of Harry Potter, Twilight, and Lord of the Rings? Adaptations never work!
This show looks great, BTW.
Funny and nicely done. I agree the trailer looks great. I am not into zombies, and I want to see it.
Wow, way to come back with all those tv show titles. Oh wait, they aren’t tv shows?
This doesn’t seem to hurt True Blood’s ratings… Being that there are about 7 or 8 Sookie Stackhouse novels.
Looks awesome. This trailer is not much different from the one at Comic Con though – I was hoping for a scene.
Still pumped!
Wow. That almost makes up for Rubicon and The Prisoner… almost.
Truly milking a dead cow.
what is the song at the end of the the trailer?
Walker Brothers…. The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore…

genius.
does anyone know why in 2010 AMC does not broadcast in HD on satellite/DirecTV?
Because Directv (although I thought it was Dish Network) and AMC’s parent company are in an ongoing lawsuit.
Agreed on the accent. Altho the same opening as 28 Days, the zombies are slow and definitely gross. Feels like a movie.
Looks like a better version of the overrated 28 Days Later. I’ll give it a roll.
Thank god someone else considers that film overrated. So slowly paced and silly. I remember giving up when the main female lead asked her partner if he was infected, then hacked him to bits with a machete getting blood all over her. Then the cab driving dad looked up and got one little drop of blood in his eye and he became a mad man. And the young girl was such a terrible actress.
The sequel was oddly better.
AMAZING trailer/teaser! If people give the show a chance they’ll see it’s not just about zombies. It’s about human relationships, and the drama is as good as anything being written out there. Well, if Frank and the boys stay true to the theme of the comics, that is…
It was a nice trailer. Tell your boss that you don’t need to make any more obvious comments.
It is! Wow! That’s something! Human relationships. I thought it was about chairs or something …
it’s going to kick ass…SMART on AMCs part to do this!
Left 4 Dead: the movie
“Left 4 Dead: the movie”
—————————
No, The Walking Dead: The movie.
The Comic this is based on came out in 2003, five years before left 4 dead.
Left 4 Dead, as well as a vast majority of recent zombie themed games and media, center on fast paced survival and lots of gratuitous zombie slaying. (Not hating on zombie slaying, I own em all and love to play.)
The big difference with The Walking Dead is that it focuses a lot more on the human element. The interactions between survivors like trust, establishing some sort of leadership and accomplishing goals… and not just immediate survival, but long term existence in a nightmare.
trust in Darabont.
They should be ashamed for stealing the opening of 28 Days Later so blatantly. But after I got over that, it actually looked entertaining.
I hated the idea for this series from the get-go, but after seeing this trailer – I’m a fan – and can’t wait to see it. Looks like an amazing execution & revitalization of a done-to-death idea. Congratulation to Frank Darabont & Company.
Now – BE BETTER than those stinkers, The Prisoner & Conspiracy Theory.
The song is “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore” by the Walker Brothers.
They had me until the zombie. This will be even more narrow than Mad Men and Breaking Bad.
Yeah because those narrow shows Mad Men and Breaking Bad are simply awful.
I read just enough of the graphic novel to get an idea of where this will go and why it’s more than just some played out zombie movie. It has a chance.
Both of those shows are doing exceptionally well. I am lost by the comments here. They seem disconnected from what other TV viewers like or are just snark to be snarking.
Mad Men and Breaking Bad’s ratings are not great. They’ve improved over their three seasons, but the fact is they do a third of the ratings as other basic cable shows like Rizzoli and Isles and the Closer and even do a few million less than Army Wives. Yes, Breaking and Mad Men are big awards winners, which is good, and Mad Men and probably BB do have very affluent viewerships (translation: ads for BMW and not Tide) but still.
The AMC executives who replaced the ones who actually developed MM and BB got into their jobs promising Rainbow Media big hit shows. Understandable; BB and MM have done their part to “put AMC on the map” in terms of viewer recognition and branding. But now it’s time for them to have an actual hit that’s watched by people outside LA and NYC.
That isn’t going to be Rubicon. Rubicon, with a million fewer viewers than Mad Men which follows it, clearly is a dud. Its demographics make NCIS look like Glee. Its ratings of 1.1 million are starting to get to Damages numbers, but it’s not the critical success that Damages was.
Walking Dead looks like it could be something bigger, provided that the execution is good. I’m hopeful.
Am I the ONLY one looking forward to the cross-over episode with “Mad Men”??!!!
Going to call it now. This will be a suitable replacement in the genre show void created by the departure of “Lost”.
Also, I would bet good money this will be AMC’s highest rated series.
Looks like AMC is on a roll creatively. I’m sure this will be the show that gets the ratings they currently lack.
I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about a new show! Plus, great to see Sarah Wayne Callies…. she was the best thing about Prison Break and deserves high quality material like The Walking Dead.
ok first ounce again books are better then the movie second again they get the story all wrong third its not at all what it needs to be
