Screen Gems has released the trailer for Burlesque, the Steven Antin-directed musical about a young girl who finds herself in a neo-burlesque club on the Sunset Strip. Christina Aguilera plays her, and Cher’s back on the screen as the club matriarch.

It looks like they’ve remade “Showgirls” without the boobies or sense of humor.
Poor Cher. The faces at Disney World’s Hall of Presidents look more lifelike.
I’m assuming the target audience is primarily gay men?
Don’t insult the gays. Not all gays love everything Cher, especially if she’s in a sh@tty movie.
Poor Aguilera. Despite her vocal talent, she is always playing “catch up” with less talented people. Britney, and now GaGa. Sure GaGa can play piano and is out there with her visual presentation, vocally she is nowhere near Christina.
Now she is in a movie that looks like it should have come out 5 years ago. It doesn’t look bad at all. But hopefully it will be good so that it can stop her slide in popularity.
You don’t need a great voice to sing pop music. Her voice is processed to the point that it doesn’t sound natural.
Christina’s biggest problem is she oversings the songs. It is just too much. She’s worse than Mariah Carrey. Since she isn’t as big as a star as Britney and Lady GaGa, the solution is picking or writing better songs (or maybe trendier songs).
This new movie is a bit of Striptease. It bombed big.
No real guy thinks Burlesque is watchable.
How corny, trite and banal. Oh yeah, the acting sucks too.
That looks bad-ass. I want to see it!
Who said Comedy was dead?
Wow that CGI mouth they put on Cher was fantastic. What? That was her real mouth? But how does it move completely independent of every other single muscle on her face?
I always knew they’d make a Showgirls sequel.
Okay, I’ll stop now so others can have a turn…
This feels like a re-working of “Showgirls” without all of the great unintended comedy that came with it.
I love that Sony/Screen Gems has pulled the trailer due to copyright issues. That movies is going to need all the publicity it can get!
Meh. I can see it doing modestly well, but overall this won’t rock he box office. But the combo of Cher and Stanley Tucci is a nice fit.
Nothing can be the cult classic Showgirls though.
Woah. What was they thinkin?
Dang, someone beat me to the Showgirls comparison. I swear, when Christina is walking into the house party it is the same house from Showgirls where they had the party. Maybe they can bring in Joe Esterhaz to save this film. Steven Antin parlayed the success of his sister who started the Pussycat Dolls and got a directing gig out of it. AND it shows.
Having a trailer removed from Youtube for copyright reasons is bad business. Two words: free publicity. What are you thinking Sony?
Why pull the trailer? Isn’t that what trailers are for? It’s not on Youtube either (although there’s a promo from Access Hollywood, I think)
Why is Screen Gems doing this kind of movie anyway? What happened to the formula, genre and the occasional black movie?
Just go to YouTube – I was able to play the trailer there, and I found 5 or so more links that probably also work.
Ok,someone please put the video mash up together of “Showgirls” and the “Burlesque” trailer. I know there are creative people working at post houses who have some time.
More Sony baloney. Hey, Sony, it’s called PUBLICITY.
Maybe they think keeping it “mysterious” is a good promotional angle. I hope it fails big time.
+ sexy Cam Gigandet and sexy Eric Dane
+ Aguilera’s divine voice singing fun tunes
+ I love Cher’s voice, too, speaking or singing
+ Alan Cumming makes me smile
+ Tucci kissing Cher
= FUN, fun, fun, I’m sold.
I’m hoping this is one of those movies that’s made of pure fun energy and sends you home smiling (like Mamma Mia, for example). Hopefully they will have the good sense to up the volume during screenings.
Why exactly does it open during dreadful dark season? I would love to see something like it right now.
NB: I’m not a gay man. I’m not a man at all.
Re: pulled trailer – What they said. I’m tired of repeating myself. Could Sony rep please explain their strategy? Not making any sense to me.
SO, basically, this is GLITTER, pt.2.
Xtina, baby, you’ll never learn will you.
BOMB
Thus was a great movie. Christina aguilera is sexy and stylish. She is always doing better than the best. Cher is awesome. She rocked in this film. So here’s a little bit of info for you bashers- lady gaga sucks. She is a terrible singer, I’m pretty sure anyone can sing her songs. And Brittany is amazing but will vocally never be as good as Christina. Christina is her own personal genre and people who disagree are jealous.
