PREVIOUS: Fox TV Studios Prez Emiliano Calemzuk Named CEO Of Shine Group Americas

LOS ANGELES – August 16, 2010 – David Madden has been named President of Fox Television Studios, it was announced today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen of Twentieth Century Fox Television, to whom Madden reports. Madden succeeds Emiliano Calemzuk who recently stepped down from his position.

Formerly EVP at FtvS, Madden has overseen Creative Development and Production at the studio, and has been responsible for an array of successful series, including the USA hits Burn Notice and White Collar, A&E’s The Glades, Saving Grace for TNT and the long-running, Emmy-winning The Shield for FX. He also oversees the new series The Good Guys for FOX, The Gates for ABC, Persons Unknown for NBC, Lights Outs for FX, as well as FX’s pilot (a co-production with FX Productions) Outlaw Country, and the recently announced The Killing for AMC. Madden also has spearheaded overall and first-look deals with such renowned and respected producers as Matt Nix, Jeff Eastin, Gary Randall, John Linson and Art Linson, Mikkel Bondesen, RJ Cutler, Denis Leary and Jim Serpico, Ross Fineman, Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo, Naomi Odenkirk and Marc Provissiero, and Cary Brokaw.

“David has been front and center throughout FtvS’ rise to its current position as one of the premiere brands in cable programming,” commented Newman and Walden. “He has earned the respect of the creative community as well as his colleagues, network executives and agents, throughout his decade-long tenure at the studio.”

Madden said, “After 10 wonderful, complicated and interesting years at FtvS, I am deeply honored to be the company’s next president, and to be following in the footsteps of someone I admire as much as Emiliano Calemzuk. This may be the easiest transition in industry history, since I have such respect and fond feelings for all the people I work with. Our agenda going forward will be simple: to do more, to do it better, and even to be more profitable, while still taking some chances.”

In addition to overseeing series for Fox TV Studios, Madden has also been responsible for numerous and award-winning movies for television, including Flight 93, Knights of the South Bronx, A Little Thing Called Murder, The Mermaid Chair, The Twelve Men of Christmas, Redemption, World War III, The Rats, The L.A. Law Movie, which Madden also executive-produced, Home Alone 4, also executive-produced by Madden, Twelve Mile Road, and Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas, among others. Madden also supervised the 2006 six-hour limited series, Thief, starring Andre Braugher, for FX; and the Golden Globe-nominated, six-hour limited series The Grid for TNT and the BBC, starring Julianna Margulies and Dylan McDermott.

Prior to joining FtvS, Madden was a producer and partner with the Paramount Pictures-based Cort/Madden Company, with more than 20 films to his credit. His most recent production, Something the Lord Made, starring Alan Rickman and Mos Def for HBO, won the Emmy for Best Movie for Television in 2004, and the DGA Award for Best Direction.  Madden also produced Save the Last Dance, starring Julia Stiles, which grossed $90+ million domestically and sold three million soundtrack units.  The Cort/Madden Company also developed a series version for the FOX network.  While at the Cort/Madden Company, Madden and his partner also produced Against the Ropes with Meg Ryan, and The Out of Towners, with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn, among other films.  Additionally, Madden executive-produced Runaway Bride, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, which grossed over $150 million domestically.

Before Paramount, Madden was a producer and partner with Interscope Communications, where he developed and produced such films as The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, starring Rebecca De Mornay, The Associate, starring Whoopi Goldberg, Operation Dumbo Drop, starring Danny Glover, Renegades, starring Kiefer Sutherland, and Blind Fury, starring Rutger Hauer. Prior to becoming an executive at Interscope Communications, Madden was VP of Production at Paramount Pictures, supervising such hit films as The Untouchables, Fatal Attraction, The Naked Gun, The Accused, and Children of a Lesser God.  He also served as Vice President of Production at Twentieth Century Fox, where he supervised Romancing the Stone, Jewel of the Nile, Revenge of the Nerds, and The Fly.
