Jennifer Aniston is set to guest star alongside Courteney Cox on the Season Two premiere of ABC’s Cougar Town on September 22nd. The two haven’t worked together since Dirt. Aniston bombed in the feature film The Switch over the weekend.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Here and NBC both need to come to getting and come up with the right TV show for her already.
I can’t wait to not watch this.
This sucks. I love COUGAR TOWN. I hate Jennifer Aniston. It just means I’ll be forced to watch her. I was soooooooo hoping she could get a new tv series, watch the reviews and rating die a quick death and read about how she’s now LiLo’s best friend.
Why did she have to pick a show I watch
Ah, a nice ratings stunt. But I doubt that it well help Cougar Town in any way. Within seven episodes, this show lost half of its audience and never recovered. Thanks to its lead-in Modern Family, it didn’t lose even more viewers. It’s beyond me why ABC doesn’t give The Middle a chance after Modern Family which comparatively did so much better ratings-wise. The Middle had to hold its ground against the comedy competition on CBS and against the weak lead-in from Hank, and it improved its ratings after a slump in fall.
Besides: The Middle is a sweet & funny family comedy, while Cougar Town is a bad fit for Modern Family with its disgusting themes like foot fetishes or hair growing out of a c-section scar… It’s just gross for a comendy show on a broadcast network. Producers & executives apparently believe that the title of the show is the only reason why people tune out (I don’t think any viewer cares about that), while nobody seems to have any issues with the content.
Yeah, and didn’t she do the same ‘favor’ for Cox’s ‘Dirt’ tv series and it was promptly cancelled??
.
…and wasn’t her guest appearance on 30 Rock the lowest rated of the season?
.
Nevertheless, I’m sure Aniston and her PR flack will saturate the media with 937 blurbs and et broadcasts about this until then. PR 101: deflect, deflect, deflect.
It’s not like she needs the money. But hey if you want to work why not work with your FRIENDS. cue Cranberry song.
Aniston belongs on tv …she is no movie star…Why does Hollywood keep giving her movies? Enough already! Send this girl on a long vacation. Did anyone see her last few movies…I can’t even recall anything that she was even ‘Good’ in. What about that film she did with Clive Owen?..Film Noir..she has zilch, zero as in NONE—- no sex appeal…the so -called sexy photos of her are ridiculous. Yes, she was watchable on Friends but that is about it. Stop haveing her grace every magazine cover….not even your Streisand photos could help you sell movie tickets..(profile pics with that pug nose …ugh!)
Would anyone care to explain me the Hollywood logic whereby if audiences don’t want to see Jennifer Aniston on the big screen they most certainly do one the small one?
Small screen is free and she’s much more palatable once a week for 22 minutes than for 2 hours every six months.
Right, especially since on her own, she’s never carried a TV series either. She could be the second coming of Matt LeBlanc’s Joey. LeBlanc and certainly Kudrow were head above Aniston in terms of talent and comedic ability – and they didn’t succeed either. Cox is as well, and she’s struggling. Personally, after seeing Aniston’s interviews, and seeing how devoid of personality, humor and charisma she is. I’m convinced she has faked her way to the stop with timely ensemble 90′s sit-com, a great hair do, showing off her ass and nips and a high profile marriage (and divorce) which earned her legions of supportive cat ladies the country over. They’re on to her tricks, and their numbers are rapidly dwindling. If she went back to TV she’d have to show she’s capable of being interesting all on her own. This, I doubt she could do.
uh…. I think Bateman helped.
Wow! Great way to turn attention away from that flop “Switch” movie!
She needs another Office Space where she is under-quaffed and actually funny.
Nope. She was a straight man in Office Space, playing the typical gf part. Nothing funny about her. I know, because I like that movie also – and if Aniston had had any more than the 3-5 minutes of actual screen time she did have, I would not have (liked it). She’s marginal at best, and a straight man for Livingston. Every other character in the movie (and there are about 7 or 8), out ranks hers and has more screen time, thank GOD.
Any word from ABC about “Ready, Set, Life”? Such a great pilot, and yet silence from the decision-makers…
Boo. While I admit, her guest stint on 30 Rock is the first thing I’ve enjoyed her on in years, Jennifer needs to suck it up and get her own show instead of glomming on to others’ successes.
Who cares? Cougartown blows a$$.
Well THAT didn’t take long!
When are you Hollywood morons going to figure out that Jennifer Anison is not a movie star? Everyone outside Hollywood figured that out five years ago.
And so begins the transition… Might as well find an ensemble comedy about women of a certain age and be the executive producer Jen. Heck, you’d make more money with that then doing these wack rom-coms.
We can all breathe easier now – all is good in the world.
Jennifer is not a movie star, plain and simple. She just doesn’t have “that thing” that makes you want to watch her perform.
Hope she gets used to it – TV is where she belongs.
J.A. Should not be allowed to star in a movie because she is not a movie star. Just a painful person to watch on the big screen. Get a day job.
uh, The Switch was not a bomb.
ROTFLMAO. Oh really…on what planet is The Switch not a bomb? Do you honestly think people make movies with the intent that they should open poorly and make as little money as possible? Today Miramax is saying the movie “performed as expected”, but when Mandate ponied up the money to make this movie do you really think they said, “God…I hope the critics and the public hate this movie so much that we barely break even!” Please. People making inexpensive films always hope for a homerun on a shoestring budget. God knows they certainly couldn’t have thought The Switch was Oscar material.
Why is it Jennifer’s bomb and not Bateman’s? Or both?
The Switch was and is a BOMB..no matter how you cut it. she is “supposed to be an A list movie Star” (gagging on that) yet Bow Wow and the other topped this movie. Now they are claiming the budget was 16 million.. YEAH. The Lottery Ticket was 17 (?) How much money were these people paid.
Aniston can’t carry a film and the people that work overtime trying to spin this failure are laughable. When Julia Robert’s Duplicity made made 13 million people were screaming FAILURE.. Aniston has another BOMB on her hands. I notice not the spin is this is a Jason Bateman film. If it had made more money.. Trust the headlines would be screaming Aniston’s BO success.. why is it different when it is the opposite.
She is not Miley Cyrus.. who by the way had a HIT.. So stop acting like a 41 year old needs to be babied. She sucked. NOTHING NEW. Now she is don’t TV to regain her fans.
The Switch had a weak opening. I’d hardly call that a “bomb.” I just saw it and it’s not bad. Jason Bateman is fantastic. I think it was marketed poorly because it’s not quite the soppy romcom you might expect.
‘The Switch’ was not a bomb, it had the third best PTA in the top10 and second best among new releases. It wasn’t a smash, but it wasn’t a bomb, either, It was released in considerably less cinemas than expected, that’s all.
What’s your problem with her, Nikki ? I could be wrong and if I am I apologize but it seems to me you try to make her look bad a lot.
Anniston is not a movie star.
Jason Bateman is not a movie star.
Switch placed ninth for the weekend I think?
Can we stop now please?
Agree with everything except the Bateman part. I think Bateman is a fine, natural actor who has the potential to break out of the mold in the right vehicle. But at this point, any actor who agrees to co-star with Aniston needs their head examined. She is like a cinematic Typhoid Mary, cutting a path of career destruction through Hollywood and leaving Blackberry-clutching bodies in her wake. Why Cox wants her on her feldgling show is beyond me. Instead of stunt casting, “Cougar” needs to improve its dreadful writing.
