“I’m old news,” deadpanned John Lithgow, who won the Guest Star in a Drama Series Emmy category for his stint on the Showtime drama Dexter. He found out he’d won at the Creative Emmys last week. “I’m loose as a goose. I found out this is the way to win an Emmy: win early.” Asked about his Dexter character Trinity, Lithgow said he loved playing him (“He was like a different character every week”), but wouldn’t miss him. “No, my character needed to die, no doubt about that.” Given his five Emmys, including 3 for the NBC comedy 3rd Rock from the Sun, one would think Lithgow is a prime target for TV series offers. “I’m not offered as much you would think or I would like,” he said. Lithgow also gave a shout-out to President Barack Obama. “He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders,” Lithgow said. “His approval numbers may have fallen but not in my book. I’m huge supporter of his.”

Good for Lithgow. Great actor and well-deserved.
Also agree with him regarding the President’s poll numbers. When there are tough decisions to make, poll numbers always take a hit. That’s leadership. Whether he’s leading us in the right direction or anywhere can be debated, but this focus on poll numbers is pathetic during times like this. We need to start making sacrifices across the board (spending, taxes, entitlements, etc.) which in the end should only leave a smile on children since these tough calls are for them. Everyone will likely be grumbling.
However, regarding Congress, that’s another matter. Their poll numbers have not been high in decades which tells us something ain’t right.
He should absolutely be in the mix to replace Steve Carell on The Office.
That’s a tough call. Not sure who could replace Carell since he was such a perfect fit for that role.
Lithgow would be interesting though, particularly to see how Dwight would interact with him. First time I’ve heard someone mention him. Hope the producers are listening. I was also thinking Martin Short.
I don’t care for his politics but I love his comedic acting. He’s brilliant. (Except about his politics)
That being said I’d like to see him on The Office.
