Kevin Spacey’s and Dana Brunetti’s Trigger Street Prods have inked a first-look deal with HBO, and as part of the pact they’ll develop the drama project The Crux. There’s no pilot order. The project centers on a charismatic cult leader played by the Oscar winner. The Crux was taken around to cable networks 2 months ago and generated interest from at least 4 places: HBO, Showtime, Starz and FX. In the end, Spacey’s existing relationship with HBO steered the project there. Spacey most recently starred in the 2008 HBO movie Recount, which earned him an Emmy nomination, and the HBO film Bernard and Doris which landed 10 Emmy noms Trigger Street co-produced. and Spacey and Brunetti executive produced, landed 10 Emmy noms. Spacey is the latest Oscar winner to topline an HBO pilot this year. Dustin Hoffman stars in Luck, which has been picked up to series, and Diane Keaton headlines Tilda, whose fate has not been decided. On the feature side, Trigger Street has The Social Network coming out in October, Casino Jack (in which Spacey also stars) premiering at the Toronto Film Festival and Safe with Jason Statham going into producing later this year. Acting-wise, Spacey is currently shooting Horrible Bosses and just completed Margin Call.

With all due respect to Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti, this show was created and spearheaded by Rod Lurie and his partner Marc Frydman, who are writing the pilot and brought it to Spacey and Brunetti… I know you are not a fan of Rod’s, but give credit where credit is due people!!!
Wait, if there’s no pilot order, I’m not sure what this announcement is, other than an opportunity to remind people that Kevin Spacey is still alive. They’re developing it at HBO? What does that mean, exactly? They’ve ditched the Lurie of it all, but like the Spacey, so they’ll try to hire someone to write a better pilot than Lurie pitched? I don’t understand.
Thank God for CAA!
Uh, I think this deal was spearheaded by WME.
What’s happening with Tilda?
Seems like Trigger Street is on a tear. Great stuff. Any of it generated from their website members?
You said that right. Nothing happened for years while he was at WME, now Spacey is working non-stop. Great actor.
Man, Spacey’s just everywhere! Including in a show called Wiseguy from the late 80′s, making this his SECOND regular series gig, not his first.
HBO wasn’t kidding man. It isn’t TV.
what a job Dana Brunetti has done for that company. Every actor should have one of those.
Kevin is a great guy and a great actor. Good for him. He finally found an agent that kills for him.
Wait: Spacey went around pitching this with Rod Lurie. Is Lurie no longer involved?
Like all other has been movie actors Spacey is probabaly broke and needs a steady gig…10 years in obscurity doing theatre doesn’t pay the bills…HBO to the rescue.
I’m glad for Kevin because he is a class act, but his partner Dana is one of the ANGRIEST people in the business — good luck with that HBO.
Spacey is a class act but Dana his “partner” is a train wreck, why does he keep that guy around?
