August 5, 2010, Hollywood, CA– Mary Hart, the host of Entertainment Tonight, announced today that her final year on the show will be ET’s upcoming 30th season, which launches September 13, 2010. Hart joined ET in 1982.
Hart says, “I’ve had the privilege of spending 29 years doing something I love – how often does that happen? I’ve had the support of a stupendous group of people starting with Linda Bell Blue, John Nogawski and many others who are so talented on our staff at ET. I only meant to be at ET for three years, suddenly it’s almost 30! I’ve reached a point when I clearly realize it’s time for a change. There are many things I want to do in my life and I’d better get on with them. It will certainly be with mixed sentiments that I say ‘goodbye’ at the end of the season, but it will definitely be with a sense of celebration…30 years of Entertainment Tonight, are you kidding me? That’s an accomplishment and something I’m very proud of!”
Executive Producer Linda Bell Blue, who has helmed the show since 1995 says, “Mary is one of my closest friends and although I respect her decision I will miss her tremendously. Right now we are focused on making this next season the very best in her long history with ET. She will remain first on the red carpet for the biggest award shows and will continue to interview Hollywood’s top stars. We’re going to have a lot of fun this year!”
No decision has been made on who will replace Hart on the highest rated syndicated magazine show on television.
John Nogawski, President of CBS Television Distribution adds, “ET and Mary Hart have created the genre of entertainment news. Not only has she defined ET for almost three decades but she’s defined entertainment journalism.”

Looks to be the reason samantha harris gave up dancing with the stars.
Sorry to see you go. Watch the door on the way out, baby.
Thank you.
She has the best plastic surgeon in the biz. Looks very close to how she did when she started.
Wonder if she’ll be like Jay Leno and come back, creating havoc.
Jay leno wasn’t asked to leave in the first place. I wonder if Mary hart was asked to leave.
Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, the entire E! channel . . . could the entertainment media be more vapid and useless?
Vapid and useless pretty much sums them up. I used to like ET, but I was a kid…..
It’s too bad that ET has turned into the video rag that it is today. In it’s early days it was actually entertainment new with interesting interviews. Now it’s not that much different from TMZ trash.
ageism sucks. MARY still brings it as an ET anchor, and I’m way younger than she is.
Reading between the lines it sounds like her contract was NOT going to be renewed and so the show gave her a graceful exit.
Snooki is probably dusting off her resume as I write… Sigh
I thought the same thing. Something seems fishy about this announcement to say “good-bye.” ET has gone so low to scrape the bottom of the barrel that as they dig up the crap, they don’t see Mary there anymore. At least they are giving her the chance to save face with a graceful exit rather than completely embarrass her.
It’s all crap anyway. Who watches this shit?
Is this gonna be a Dorian Grey kind of deal. Will she start to age now?
I have been wondering for years when ET was going to get around to showing her the door. No offense, Mary, but when I watch entertainment news I like to look at young, hot girls. Mary hasn’t been either for at least 10 or 15 years. Compared to the girls on E! she looks ancient which in turn makes it less plausible that she would be ‘in the know’ as to what’s going on at the moment.
In theory, ageism sucks and I know we’re all going to get there someday. But in reality, I’m more entertained watching the pretty young things on ‘The Daily 10′ and haven’t watched ET for a decade.
You got it about Samantha Harris. Too skinny and no talent. She can’t take Mary Hart’s place!
I agree. I couldnt stand her on Dancing with the Stars, and now i am forced to watch TMZ.
It’s about time!!!!!!
Now kill that sleazy show too!!!
its because they are rich
you dont walk away from a job when you live pay check to pay check
its different if you’re loaded.
I fear it is beyond ageism. Mary makes WAY TOO MUCH BREAD for 2010. There was a dame at ET, did the weekend show and was their #1 interviewer for years. She made over 1.5 a year..and this was a decade ago! The gal who took her place, (now since departed) was hired for 250k! Mary just priced herself out of a job. Vanna is next. There is ALWAYS someone in the wings waiting to do on camera work for less money. Always.
They’re not renewing grandma’s contract.
Mary has been a pro ‘s pro since she took over the show from three pathetic hosts. She has made a ton of money and is married to to very wealthy successful guy in his own right. Time to smell the roses. Mary Hart took ET on her shoulders in the beginning and carried it past the goal line. Have a great life Mary.
Now she can focus her energies on what’s most important to her: more face lifts! Have you ever noticed how all her “vacations” are six weeks at a crack? What do you think she’s really doing people? She’s having that mug of hers yanked up another two inches!!! Goodbye ole’ lady entertainment. Let’s not make this a monumental TV moment. Call it what it is: Grandma is moving on to the farm to grow old and die. Just PLEASE do not promote the AWFUL and HORRIBLE Samantha Harris. That woman is beyond untalented.
How many people stay in the same job that long? Don’t you think after doing it for 29 years she can be excused for walking away to enjoy something else?
I’ve dealt with Mary over the years professionally and personally and she’s always been a mensch. Yeah, this might be a polite shove out the door but maybe not: I’m recalling her impromptu comments to some journalist about a year ago where she diplomatically said that she wasn’t crazy covering reality stars and missed the days of covering actors, musical artists and other real celebrities. So who knows.
Mary Hart was so upbeat and it was almost like she was singing when she spoke.
Make way for Samantha Harris…I knew this was coming. Samantha will do a decent job, though.
She’ll go on to write a book, have her own show (TV or radio), or series of
celebrity interview specials. I seriously doubt she’ll ever be out of the public
eye. That is her way of life and she would miss it too much.
I have no personal love for her and I never watch ET, but man, 29 years in front of the camera? In the same job? And a woman? She should get a lifetime achievement award. How many other female (non-journalist) hosts have a track record like that?
You’re joking, right?
Do you honestly believe Mary Hart is affected by the recession? She’s a wealthy woman married to a very wealthy man. People with those kinds of resources march to a different drummer than the rest of us.
I’m doing my best to join the group Ms. Hart belongs to.
never thought i would see the day when Mary Hart left Et. though odds are she will not be gone from the air waves for long if nothing else she will wind up hosting another show.end of an era in so called entertainment news aka tabloid type hollywood fluff.
She was the best host of the many Entertainment News shows.
Isn’t Samantha Harris the guy who was the first Star Search winner?
Thank you.
Wow.. some angry people on here! Keep this in mind….
1. ET was the first of it’s genre, and at nearly 30 years on the air, even if you aren’t watching it, millions are. Look at the ratings, it still dominates the competition in the national averages.
2. You don’t like the stories or content on the show? Blame your fellow American viewing public. It doesn’t make sense to program a show that nobody will watch, so content trends change over the years.
3. Mary is, without a doubt, one of the most genuine, caring people who has ever worked in this business. While she is naturally a very beautiful woman, let’s not forget the power of great makeup, hairstylists, studio lighting, favorable camera angles, etc.
4. Mary is the best at what she does, and has been for 30 years… Truth is, she probably deserves more than $5Mil a year… but whose business is that anyway?! Don’t we all negotiate for the best that we can get?? Seriously, do ACTORS “deserve” THIRTY million dollars for a single movie that only takes MONTHS to make? Especially when the movie bombs?! She was instrumental in the early and continued success of the show and was compensated fairly for that.
THANKS stop the hating.Very well put. Mary is a very classy lady. She deserves to be at the top. She will be missed by many people. No one can make everyone happy.
