It’s 2 and out for Breakthrough with Tony Robbins. NBC has pulled the unscripted series after two very low-rated airings (0.8/3 and 0.7/2 in the adults 18-49). I hear the series is referred to as “Ben Silverman’s parting gift,” as it was one of the last projects the former NBC programming chief bought before exiting NBC a year ago. NBC has slated episodes of game show Minute to Win It in the Tuesday 8 PM slot for the next 2 weeks.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

I love how they blame Silverman. Was the current regime forced to put the show on air? No, they put the show on the air because they thought it would be successful. They’re idiots. Most, if not all, of the NBC fall slate is just as bad as this show.
I’ve heard The Event and the entire Friday night NBC line up will also be making quick exits.
Yup…I called it last week and here it is!
Correction: The Hollywood Reporter reported that the Event got a huge response at Comic Con.
Not exactly a ringing endorsement. Comic Con is a niche audience of nerdy fan boys. I think any show that plays well to that crowd is doomed. No mass appeal.
The Event is already in trouble. Not only was it’s reception at Pathetic-Con lukewarm at best, it’s reportedly wildly over budget and behind schedule. And that’s just episode one. Six and out.
Patheti-Con? Really “NCIS Lover”? That was uncalled for. The Event may not be the next Lost, but from all of the pilots set to air this fall, I’d say it’s far from the worst. At least it sounds like a semi-original concept unlike the other shows like Hawaii Five-O, Law & Order: LA, or No Ordinary Family (which sounds like a live-action version of the Incredibles). By your screen name I take it would prefer they just make a NCIS spinoff or another CSI, right? Before you dismiss a show watch at least two episodes of it. After that, if you’re not inclined to, don’t watch it any further. Not every show starts off with a bang from the first episode.
Can someone explain to me all the negativity on this site about “The Event”? It seems suspicious to me when the show hasn’t even aired. Is it so horrible that NBC may have a potential hit? Sounds like people who work on other shows are scared and feeling the need to attempt to spread negative buzz in an attempt to drown out the positive buzz around the show. Why not let it air and let audiences just decide…
Nice try. Check your facts. As someone who works on the show I can tell you we’re not over budget, we are on schedule (and shooting eps 2 and 3, not 1). The showrunners and actors are all pros and we’re putting together a great show. So love your tired procedural all you want and stop trying to spread lies.
Oh, you work at The Event? Nice. We just heard from someone who’s non-biased. I’d touch up the resume if I were you. In that time slot on NBC the best show in the world would have about a one in five shot at success.
My brother was at Comic Con and concurs that the reception was underwhelming. What, you say? But it was in the Hollywood Reporter! Yeah, that bastion of accuracy.
Any news on the pilot “Family House”? NBC sure is tight-lipped these days.
Saw the 2nd episode, missed the first. Found it inspiring, educational, uplifting and well worth watching. In these precarious economic times, real stories about people in crisis should be something that attracts viewers. Did NBC advertise this enough? I don’t know why they didn’t stick with the series, I think it would have been great!
What a shame. My husband I faithfully watched this time slot on NBC because of its inspirational, encouraging shows. Tony Robbins Breakthrough was just one more wonderful show out of the hundreds of garbage shows on cable and TV. We sat down awaiting another inspirational show that was advertised the week before on how a couple could overcome infidelity in the marriage. Something that SO many have delt with and trying to overcome personally and as a couple and instead…well, we get a minute to win it episode filled with, sorry, garbage TV. So, I guess it’s bye bye to NBC until you come back to your senses and realize that some of us out there with some intelligence enjoy learning, growing, and changing ourselves for the better with the encouraging assistance from people like Tony Rpbbins.
I too am very disappointed that “Breakthrough” didn’t work out, at least it was positive, upbeat, and gave viewers ideas on how to improve their lives. With all the murder and mayhem on so many other shows, having a show talking about being respectful, setting positive goals, being in touch with one’s true self, and communicating effectively is like a breath of fresh air. I hope Robbins gets another chance, perhaps on cable such as PBS.
No american Media suckass!!! That’s right!!! Let it be murder and shooting you love that don’t you!! Stupid IDIOTS!!!! Tony Robbins has a FOLLOWING he is like a Male Mother Theresa you stupido!!!!!! Take that to the bank you Retardo AHOLE!!!!!
