Here is news that none of the theater chains or film studios want publicized: New York City’s latest bed bug infestation has expanded into movie theaters. Audience members have reported bites at Times Square’s AMC Empire 25 and in Harlem’s AMC Magic Johnson 9, according to news reports. Yuck! Since then, there’ve been inspections, exterminations, seat replacements, and more inspections. At least this time, no one is denying there’s a problem. (Whereas rumors of a bed bug problem last Thanksgiving was denied by NYC theater chains.) Then again, the current outbreak in NYC office buildings and retail stores have received massive publicity. Suggestions for moviegoers include 1) select washable attire, 2) isolate clothing and shoes upon returning home, 3) dump into a hot wash and dry as soon as possible, 4) leave purses and bags back at home, 5) inspect the popcorn for anything that moves.

Yeah, those of us in NYC have been wary of going to the movies ever since the bed bug sitch went public a week or so ago.
Thankfully, there hasn’t been an outbreak in Brooklyn (yet) so I refuse to travel into the city to see anything.
When I walked by the Ziegfeld and it was closed Friday I had that itchy feeling.
Couldnt they spin this as new 4D technology that makes the experiance of films just that more real.
Yeah. I’m waiting for the inevitable “Bed Bugs: The Movie! In 4D!!” With special effects built into the seats.
You guys know that the 4th dimension would be time, right?
Now that the movie business will be affected, when will the MPAA get involved because I’ve stopped going to see movies in the theaters period.
As a New Yorker who sees several films a week and have been to the AMC 25 a couple of times in the past month, am happy to say I’m 100% bedbug and lice freee. They are obviously there in small numbers but as usual, everyone is in media panic mode. America goes from too little to far too much coverage every time.
NYGUY, you know that dinner party at our place this weekend? Um, something came up and we had to cancel. Be in touch real soon.
“Inspect the popcorn for anything that moves” = awesome.
Yeah, I was planning to see that Eli Roth movie tonight at a sneak, but now I don’t know. One trip to the movies could cost me $5000. I’d have to throw out all my clothes and furniture. No movie is worth that.
>5) inspect the popcorn for anything that moves.
So normally the theater owners DON’T recommend inspecting your popcorn for moving things?
Bedbugs are nothing. I heard a rumor 20 years ago about an old time revival house in the city that was so gross people were catching herpes off the seats from the homeless who slept there all day during Bowery boys marathons.
Another perfect example of why that city sucks so much.
New Yorkers dont go to the Time Square AMC. That ones for tourists. It’s all about Regal at Battery Park
To any New Yorker living in LA who’s pining for life back home – go get bitten.
The bedbug problem is even bigger in CA, as are the wackos on the loose.
They are everywhere…I got them at the Marriott in Nashville…..it was bad for about a month.
We get the same broblem of bed bugs in theaters over here in the UK the situation is not quite as bad, but its getting there.
Blog Comment nr 4:
It was really scary. When I lifted up my mattress and I saw these tiny black creates walking inside the bed. Immediately I bought spray and killed them, but they keep coming back!
Got sleepless night from these bed bugs. ohh..I hate them!
After 1 year, I finally got rid of those bed bugs. I go crazy about bed bugs.
This is what I’ve learned:
1. Wash all your cloth in HOT water ( above 68 Celsius)
2. After washing, put your cloth in the dryer for at least 20 min (HOT)
3. Put all your cloth in a plastic back with zipper (no air can go inside)
4. Vacuum your mattress and bed frame
5. Steam vacuum your mattress is better
6. Spray your mattress 12 hours before your sleep with beg bug spray
7. Put double tape around those four legs of your bed
8. Move your bed away from the wall (so bed bug can not reach your bed through the wall)
- Do this at least for 1 week until your mattress is free of bed bugs
The last option is throw away your mattress, but make sure you seal it first with a plastic bag.
Otherwise other people will bring these bed bugs to another home.
Your mattress is maybe free of bed bug, but you are not finished yet. Bed bugs are still hiding in the tiny holes or carpet. Especially those tiny eggs. They are almost invisible.
9. Vacuum your house
10 Vacuum your house
11. Seal the vacuum bag and throw it away immediately
12. Put a lot of double tape around your house
13. Organize your furniture
14 Put all furniture outside under the sun (must be hot temperature)
15. If you are in the summer, then spray bed
There are more steps, but I can’t write anymore here…
