This week, Paramount Pictures and director Brad Bird will begin testing actors to star alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 4. I’m told that three of the actors who’ll test with Cruise on Thursday and Friday are Vampire’s Kevin Zegers, Letters to Juliet star Christopher Egan, and Anthony Mackie, who starred in the Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker. Cruise is producing the film with JJ Abrams, and Paramount Pictures is co-financing with David Ellison’s Skydance.

Keven Zegers looks so much like a young Cruise that I wouldn’t be surprised if he played Ethan Hunt’s brother in the movie.
Kevin Zegers is one of the most underrated actors of his generation! He was fantastic in Transamerica. He is strikingly handsome and oozes talent. Give it to this guy!
Please Anthony Mackie, those other choices are so uninspired.
+1 for Mackie. He would be an awesome choice.
Anthony, you’re a genius. RUN AWAY FROM THIS PROJECT AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!
I’d love to see Anthony in anything, even if it has to be MI4.
Dear JJ,
Mr Mackie please.
Thanks.
Anthony Mackie is such a genius idea – finally.
Knight and Day opens Mission Impossible pulled, shelved, franchise over…given a few days a little shannigans a little back slapping between the boys..Tom all is forgiven we will blame it on Diaz.
There is a generational change that is happening. Those so totally clueless so out of touch will push Julia Roberts, Jennifer Anniston, Tom Cruise, in wheelchairs and with plastic tubes in their noses sucking in oxygen to hit those marks. Sumner you were right when you kicked him off the lot. But you have slipped further off your marks and into another losing arrangement with Mr. Cruise. God you people are idiots.
Knight and Day has made over 220 million worldwide.
spot on, bettheduck. out with the oldsters. can’t wait for your generation to run riot. judging from your post, it’s a future devoid of grammar, punctuation, syntax and um… coherence. can’t wait!
wait… no Michael Cera?
Just kidding
Yes to Anthony Mackie, May’be to Christopher Egan, hell no to Kevin Zegers.
well maybe zegers if they cast efron and need a stunt double.
Hope Mackie gets it. We hardly see any black actors on the big screen other than Denzel and Will Smith.
All these choices are tired. Having any three of these solid actors won’t do anything for box office. Why not go with an unknown? That is an inspired idea.
I couldn’t agree with you more, an unknown will add a fresh take on the franchise and give the added bonus of publicity for giving someone other than the usual suspects a chance. One such unknown would by a versatile young actor by the name of Michael Bernardi – he just signed with the House of Representatives.
Mackie would be a great young Nick Fury in Captain America.
Paramount is testing for Tom Cruise’s YOUNG LEAD?? Holy shit, Cruise has jumped the shark & is now on his way to Harrison Ford supporting roles. Well, that cutback in his pay is going to really piss off the Scientologists (guess Tom’s 10% isn’t going to be what it used to be…who’s gonna be the new cash-thetan?)
Anthony Mackie + Tom cruise = Great Movie
Anthony Mackie is the best choice. He’s got a big pivotal role in the Matt Damon feature The Adjustment Bureau and early word is he’s great. He’s also shooting Max Steel with Hugh Jackman and he showed a great side in last years hit The Hurt Locker.
Dear Tom, JJ, Paramount:
Please be smart and make the exciting choice. Anthony Mackie can help revitalize this franchise! His performance alone will revitalize Tom and the film. Anthony Mackie + Tom Cruise + Brad Bird= amazing film!!!!
Thank you.
Bad idea to start this franchise up. I don’t care if Brad Bird is directing. The Bourne and Bond movies have effectively cornered and gobbled up the spy market. Unless you have a hook, aka Salt, then don’t bother trying. If they were serious then they would make it more like the tv show. But they’re not. Besides who the f*** cares about Mission Impossible anymore? Those 3 movies epitomize the lameness of this town.
This would be amazing for Paramount and for Hollywood if they actually have the balls to go with Anthony Mackie…he is by far the most talented…and how great to make a new action star like him!!!!
Anthony Mackie is fantastic! That’s a movie I would go to see.
Anthony Mackie please!!
Your all missing the point. Casting of young leads has only to do with assuring a certain demographic for the box office. Anyone see MI3. Not a single supporting actors part is developed worth a damn. The entire film is Tom running, being shot at or doing some CGI stunt or wire gag. Every frame is Tom and all the others actors are mere window dressing and background. Can we not get a decent script rather than a retread for once. How about it JJ. The problem is, Tom. He just does not know how to share the screen or the story. Paramount does not want to make this film. There are other forces at work. Probably have to because of their ties to JJ or making this film is required to get the Ellisons money. Why do I need to watch MI4 when i have seen it so many times before
I think that having a young movie star is what this picture needs. And the ONLY young movie star I see in this pack is Kevin Zegers. His work is Transamerica is still one of my favorite performances by anyone in the past 5 years. He also embodies the look of a younger Cruise and has very good will around the business. Just food for thought..
Really, all this film needs is a young movie star lead. Perfect. Let’s start printing the money. Get real
I am all for Anthony Mackie, but what about Maggie Q? She was good in her minor role in MI3. She should come back!
Anthony Mackie aint that talented kids.
He’s actually not. But having the balls to mix things up and throw a black talent into an otherwise white-washed tentpole franchise would help bring in the urban audience…
Just sayin..
Zegers (spelled Kevin with an i, nikki) is a force to be reckoned with. Any of you naysayers have clearly never seen his work. Go watch 50 Dead Men Walking opposite Jim Sturgess and Ben Kingsley. I didn’t even know it was him until I saw the credits role. He’s a true thespian and a movie star waiting to blow up.
Where’s Isaiah Mustafa???? (the Old Spice Guy)
