This week, Paramount Pictures and director Brad Bird will begin testing actors to star alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 4. I’m told that three of the actors who’ll test with Cruise on Thursday and Friday are Vampire’s Kevin Zegers, Letters to Juliet star Christopher Egan, and Anthony Mackie, who starred in the Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker. Cruise is producing the film with JJ Abrams, and Paramount Pictures is co-financing with David Ellison’s Skydance.

All very different
actory actor – Mackey
commercial, quality qctor – Egan
guy from Air Bud – Zegers
or zegers from transamerica and fifty dead men walking. award winning actor.. whatevs…
Not kevin Zegers, how about Ben McKenzie (Southland)?
Ben McKenzie is great, but even as good as he is on Southland I don’t know when he’ll make the transition to film because, unfortunately, people still see him as Ryan from the OC.
I’m for Mackie, but I doubt it’ll happen.
this would be huge for Mackie, egans was great in the short-lived kings, not a bad choice either
Kevin Zegers is far and away the best choice. Why? Well, he is the most fresh idea of the three and has the most to prove (which is a good thing). Yes, Anthony and Chris are very talented but they have had their “chance.” It is Kevin’s turn.
I’ve watched Kevin evolve for several years. He has proven that he has the true acting chops and intensity as an actor. He physically is the most interesting of the three and if the Paramount marketing people have anything to say about it — they will hopefully go with Zegers. I remember his work in TransAmerica — which was brilliant. As someone said earlier, his performance in 50 DEAD MEN WALKING was chilling.
It will all simply come down to the test and who delivers.
Two words – KEVIN ZEGERS….
Zac Efron has this one in the bag.
Kevin Zegers is the most interesting way to go because it is a fresh piece of casting and he is ready to step up and have his time on center stage. He really is a tremendously gifted actor and from a marketing point of view seems like a very smart way to go about this whole process,
Wheres Zac EFron? I thought him and Cruise were best friends now.
All you film snobs say – Mackie, Mackie, Mackie. The bottom line is that Kevin Zegers would finally be given the chance to shine and I know he would kill it and be brilliant.
Dont know the other two and don’t care. However, Kevin Zegers is a nut ball! BUT a helluva an actor. I’d cast him in a heartbeat. Cruise would do well to stick with this kid.
The franchise is…well, you already know.
What it needs is…..too many things to enumerate. But the sum of those things equals EDGE!!!
Mr. Mackie — please stand up.
Don’t get Chris Egan. Check out John V. Soto’s “Crush” if you want to see how atrocious an actor he is.
Mackie as Cruise’s younger brother is a stunning idea. Might even see the movie for once, to see how they handle it.
Anthony for the win!
Tom Cruise does know how to share the screen (when he’s not exec producing). Jerry Maguire, Rain Man, Collateral, Magnolia, etc. That said, the problem with the MI series is that a lot of the story is built around the action and not the other way round. I agree with one of the posters who said they should get a decent script – proper jeopardy, real motivation.
Your point is well taken. The sharing the screen comment applies to the MI series only and not some of his better work in Jerry Maguire, Rain Man, etc. What do i know, I loved the Bourne films, I can watch them over and over again. Th MI films are a blur that I am happy to forget. Look, I have seen every permutation of stunt and car chase. I don’t believe any of it anymore due to the use of CGI and Blue screen. Can we please have a fleshed out story with fleshed out characters. Please
Would Anthony Mackie’s Agent and PR Company’s assistants please stop posting in support of his casting?
the same for Zegers
Play nice, Mr. Zegers!
Mackie was brilliant in “The Hurt Locker.” Zegers was terrific in “Transamerica.” Egan was the worst thing about “Letters to Juliet.”
KEVIN ZEGERS….. NO BRAINER KIDS…..
And what about…Rhys Meyers?
It looked to me like Cruise and Abrams always intended to bring back and expand upon their apppealing MI:3 team. Ving is back as likely will be SImon Pegg, looks like Maggie Q may be too,
and we could hope for larry and michelle…
And for months to the delight of his fans, the IMDb MI:4 page has floated that Jonathan is “(rumoured)” to return in his MI:3 role, Declan, who seems the ideal choice for that spy in waiting. Is the shape shifting Globe winner for Elvis expected to serve in a small support team role behind some new beef?
Worse notion, given Zegers’ cloned resemblance to Rhys Meyers, do Bird/Cruise/Abrams THINK they can pull off a lame bait and switch, drop Kevin in as Declan and Jonnyfans won’t…notice?
None of those actors can bring to the franchise what Jonathan, hot off Matchpoint and Elvis, came to it with last time no more NOW after his impressive four year showtime run.
As IF struggling MI:4 doesn’t seriously NEED Rhys Meyers’ daunting Henry8 clout and all those loyal Tudors subjects clamoring for his next role to prop up Tom’s sagging spy franchise.
No jonny in Mission Four? Impossible.
i am not a tom cruise apologist. but he does pull in big bucks in asia. let’s hope he doesn’t do a sly stallone and get a face lift.
MI4 will do nothing for anthony mackie’s career. but might line his wallet. –can anyone remember 1 actor in the previous 3 films?
I agree! They should go with a relative unknown in the role. May I suggest Anthony Mackie, Kevin Zegers or Christopher Egan.
Actually in fact…
I can remember…three excellent (hot!) young actors from the last one…
Michelle Monaghan, Maggie Q and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
(also Philip Seymour Hoffman and Billy Crudup but they killed them off so they won’t be back)
The WHOLE cache of the TV series was the TEAM whose skills and natures we came to know well.
And it LOOKED to me that at least Abrams, a TV guy, picked up on that and that MI:3 was laying
down foundations with old hand Ving and new team members Maggie and Jonny who both proved MORE than capable in their small but impressive roles. Add surly boss Fishburne and amusing geek Pegg in the home office plus the addition of Michelle as Ethan’s surprisingly intrepid bride…
And some of us thought…hey…we have a workable sequel here.
I am NOT a Tom or Mission fan, I was brought to it by Rhys Meyers, who was team IM all the way!
I LIKED the whole MI:3 force, I wanted to see THAT engaging cast developed in the…next one.
I signed on early to MI:4 on the off chance it would meet my expectation and by getting Rhames back on board, Pegg into “talks” and most of all…allowing…IMDb to float Jonathan and Maggie as (rumored) cast members at their MI:4 page, Tom and JJ have cynically LET that apparently false impression ride…for months.
And, trust me, MI:3 fans are…pissed…about it.
Beyond any other member of the cast, Declan had real potential for development, at 33 Jonny is young enough to step in and Henry8 certainly can pull an action franchise. He played well off Tom and made Tom look good in the bargain so for MI:4 to be casting about for a hot new…star…is a slap in the face of the considerable star they HAD.
There is NO WAY I will even see this sequel now, no more TWICE, nor will I rent it then buy the DVD with the extra special features disc.
Which I gladly DID last time cause when I LIKE an actor, I put my money where my comments are.
Bird/Cruise/Abrams THINK they can pull off a lame bait and switch, drop Kevin in as Declan and Jonnyfans won’t…notice?
