EXCLUSIVE: Robin Wright is negotiating to star in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the David Fincher-directed adaptation of the Stieg Larsson novel for Sony Pictures Entertainment. She is in talks to play Erika Berger, the publisher of crusading finance magazine Millennium, and the occasional lover of journalist Mikael Blomkvist (to be played by Daniel Craig). The film is casting up quickly, even as Fincher and producer Scott Rudin take their time searching for the right young actress to play the computer hacker heroine Lisbeth Salander. Berger figures in Larsson’s sequel books The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest, and Wright is negotiating a deal that includes options for both.
Wright is currently in the Bennett Miller-directed Moneyball for SPE, playing the ex-wife of ballplayer-turned-A’s general manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt). She wrapped the female lead in the Robert Redford-directed The Conspirator that will debut at Toronto, and most recently starred in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee and A Christmas Carol. SPE begins production on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo this fall for a December 21, 2011 release. Wright’s repped by CAA and Anonymous Content.

I’m not typically a supporter of remakes, but I’m starting to drool over this line-up…
Also, Sony has a surprising number of great movies in the works. That was unexpected(!)
It’s not a remake.
And the swedish adaptation was terrible
I agree. I did not like the Swedish versions at all. At the same time, I pray they don’t “Amercanize” it.
Perhaps it’s the time I grew up in, but I see her as present-day La Femme Nakita – like.
Every girl needs a hero like that.
I liked the Swedish adaptation very much. Can hardly see Hwood doing it better.
I also loved the Swedish films and am afraid to be disappointed with the new version.
The Swedish adaptation was great.
Ok…you were complaining at the swedish version… From the beginning it was made as a tv serie and not as a movie but then they changed their minds and tried to use the same material for the movie..not the best idea, but I really like the movies anyway.
And Wright will be perfect as Erika Berger!
Good choice.
Wright has this masculine edge to her, with some deep eyeliner, cut off tee, she should fit in as Lesbeth.
Wright is Berger, not Salander. Pay attention. This shit is hot.
did you even read the article? she’s being considered for the role of erika, not lisbeth. while beautiful and a great actress, she’d be a terrible choice for lisbeth…she’s just too old. I do think she’s a great choice as erika, though
Wright as Lisbeth… ha, ha,ha… that was funny. I could just imagine the massive dragon tattoo on her back. She would make a perfect Erika.
WHO WILL BE LISBETH? Dying over here!
No kidding! After reading the books, I keep seeing Ellen Page, only because she’s so small and emotionless – just like Lisbeth.
I hear they’re casting wide, which makes sense for draw.
MILFtastic!
Now that she’s gotten rid of the dead weight, I look forward to Ms. Wright doing a lot more work.
they still couldn’t find the girl to play lisbeth? regarding robin wright, good choice, she looks swedish.
I’m a huge fan of the books, so I have to voice concern over the casting of Daniel Craig. Craig is great as the stoic character in every other movie I’ve watched him in, but Bloomkvist is a different, more complex, part. (Russell Crowe, perhaps?) Willing to keep an open mind, but am doubting casting for Salander now. Robin Wright, on the other hand, is a GREAT choice for Berger.
I’ve read all the books and seen all the movies. If anything, Craig is a better cast than the original. Couldn’t imagine Nyquil in a million years as the lead – even in the original.
Kristen Bell for Lisabeth Salander. Made. Of. Win.
So, I take it you’ve never read the book. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be suggesting such a ridiculous casting choice.
I like her. She made “State of Play” watchable. A beautiful, mature, real woman like her should be in every movie.
Totally on board with Kristen Bell as Lisbeth. No one can sell vulnerability and emotional depth like KB.
I’m no Kristin Bell hater. She’s absolutely fine in the relatively vanilla stuff she’s done so far. KB works in what she does because she is a capable player of an archetype. Blonde and pretty with enough smarts showing through.
But c’mon. As Salander? The only people who would consider KB as Salander an inspired idea would be her reps at CAA (are you one?) .
Rooney Mara as Salander. Very Fincher. Will be great. Fresh. And most of all, right for the part. Thank god Fincher doesn’t give into that most self-sabotaging practice in Hollywood… casting the safe actress that the studio thinks is “worth something” and then the whole project collapses in mediocrity and the studio loses its shirt because the result isn’t “worth something”.
Fincher is the best director working in the business. Full. Stop. Gotta give him credit for this choice. Robin is awesome. Beautiful and talented. A classy choice indeed.
I second Kristen Bell as Lisbeth. She made “Veronica Mars” watchable… And the scene where she awakens to realize she was raped the night before and her eyes tear up was so memorable and moving. Great actresa. Needs the right role to finally break out.
Happy to hear this news for her. Good riddance Mr. Penn, hello good projects.
Is Sean in negotiations to join Wyclef’s presidential campaign as his running mate?
Good for Robin Wright.. but who is going to make us forget Noomi Rapace’ Salander? She was just perfect.
Wow! Looks like divorcing Sean was a good career move for Ms. Wright…
YEAH! This is really shaping up.
“Fincher is the best director working in the business”
Nice of you to stop by Mrs. F…
Ha! First movie with Brad Pitt now this. Isn’t this funny that her career went up after she split with Sean Penn. Good for her. Carry one.
“KB”? That’s retarded. They should just use the girl from the original movies or Emilie Deravin. Love her!!!
And offcourse the swedish actor Peter Stormare should have a role in this great trilogy if you ask me.
Natalie Portman could also be a alternative to play Lisbeth Salander. Just looked at pictures of her and she look perfect for the role for Lisbeth Salander.
They should get a new fresh actress. They don’t need a name, They have enough star power and great material to work from.
Robin Wright Penn certainly looks the part and she is a good actress however she tends to take roles that are safe and sympathetic. This role Erica Berger needs some edge. All the female roles in Steig Larrson’s books are tough and interesting, a little punk not just Lisbeth Salander- god this is getting good…
Robin Wright is a good choice for Berger the jounalist. I do hope they go for a unknown actress for the lead role. The movie will carry itself based on the book and Daniel Craig.
Swedish people are so much prettier when interpreted through American/British eyes than they are when seen through their own/Danish eyes huh?
I would love to see Kristen Stewart cast as Lisbeth Salander. She can be unemotional and is tough. She is not called Badass for any reason. After all Ms. Stewart has carried New Moon by her self to the tune of $6oo million box office smash. I wish Breaking Down was not filming at the same time as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Yeah, no. Kristen Steward did not carry New Moon by herself. Stop that.
I would like to see Shannon Woodward as Lisbeth.
STOP IT! Seriously!
Just because Kristen Bell was in New Moon and it did well financially does not mean that she is right for Dragon Tattoo.
How about Kate Winslet? She was in Titanic!
No, I’m pretty sure a bunch of tweens and middle school language arts teachers carried that movie to the tune of $600 million. Stewart was just along for the ride, and to look really awkward all the time.
