I hear SyFy is close to a fifth season pickup of drama series Eureka. The options on the actors from the cast, which includes Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Joe Morton and Erica Cerra, are being picked up. The series, about a remote town where the brightest U.S. scientists build futuristic inventions, has been a consistent ratings performer for the network. Its fourth season premiere last month drew 2.5 million viewers, on par with the 2.6 million who tuned in for the Eureka‘s summer debut last year.

And, with the addition of James Callis….it’s even better this season, he is a perfect fit for this show!!!
Frankly, its the best show Syfy has right now. Everything else is either redundent ghostchaser “reality” shows, wrestling or bad B-movies. Unfortunately SyFy has rapidly declined in quality since the end of Battlesatr Galactica. I used to watch the channel all the time, now it’s just Eureka.
What’s even more sad is that there are tons of great recent TV shows that they could could pick up and re-run (like Serenity, Doll House, Smallvile, Star Trek, Dr Who) that they could be running for far less then they are spending on all these terrible movies they make and they would probably get far better ratings. It makes mo sense at all…
“Eureka” is one of those shows that indicates how far SyFy is from even “Stargate” as to what they once did very well. It’s not awful, but it’s very middle-of-the-road/doesn’t take chances (of course, “Warehouse 13″ is far, far worse). What was the name of that show Mark Addy was on for some network forever that apparently people watched as it lasted for awhile, but no one really noticed when it got cancelled? That’s “Eureka.”
The show became gimmicky and far-fetched.
The “science” coming for the greatest minds in the world switched to science-fiction. Not in a good way.
It still remained funny, but it lost the moderation and better balance of the first season.
I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t renew Eureka. The timeline change has invigorated the writing and Season 4 is turning out to be the best since season 1. Of course, this si Syfy. If it’s not Sharktopus, they’re not interested.
Aw, I love this show, always makes me smile! Good news for Eureka. They did a great job shaking up the series this season.
This is back door negotiating, right?
Or would it be described with another term?
I think the Mark Addy show alluded to above was “Still Standing.” I had to look that up — I have seen an episode or two, flipping channels at random, but found the show and its title to be completely forgettable.
Not so “Eureka.” It’s not deep, but it is fun, if you can get past the blatant product placement. The “crossover” with Warehouse 13 was pretty awful, though; it had the perverse effect of REDUCING our likelihood of watching the other series! I agree that the plot twists and addition of James Callis this season have put some more spark into Eureka.
I love the show. I’m not a big sci fi fan generally but this one is fun and a little weird, too. I love Colin Ferguson in the role of Sheriff and the writers seem to enjoy writing for it, too.
Definitly glad they’re picking up the show and thrilled it’s now on Friday night. After a long week at work it’s the perfect relaxation to start the weekend.
I like this show a lot; and adding Callis was a major coup. I really miss Jaime Ray Newman though. I hate the Colin/Sally thing. Sally should end up with James Callis; they make a much better couple. Bring back Jaime Ray Newman!
Fingers crossed for another season! Callis is a great addition, but hopefully Carter/Ferguson will stay front and center.
No thanks on the Jaime Ray Newman front. I’d far rather see some comedy out of Carter and Allison dating. Such different backgrounds could lead to plenty of funny!
I have to say this show is a guilty pleasure but I do miss Jordan Hinson and Vanya Asher. Such a cute young couple. I can’t imagine what they’ll be doing with next season’s story after this alternate timeline thing.
Seriously, Syfy would get more props if they would air more episodes of Eureka(instead of 10) and get rid of those tacky, fake “scary” movies with monsters and wild animals.
Im not a science fiction fan. but since being introduced to the show, I LOVE it! and look forward to seeing it! Would be interesting to see where they’ll take Carter/Allison now as a couple. But FINALLY they’re together!! YAY!
