Ty Pennington’s contract with ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition ends in spring of 2012. So the host and his management team have been working for a number of months on a daytime format they are getting ready to take out for a Fall 2012 start date. Managers Bill Stankey and Drea Bock are currently exploring other networks besides ABC as well as syndication and cable partnerships with alternative revenue streams being a major component to the show.
Discussions are taking place with several major sponsors. Stankey took Joy Behar from daytime to primetime and kept her in both time slots. Team Ty hopes to do the same, in part because of preliminary audience research conducted by a network and an independent web based research firm. Meanwhile, Team Ty claims Pennington’s Q scores run higher than all daytimes hosts with the exception of Ellen DeGeneres. Pennington started out on TLC’s Trading Spaces and has become a familiar pitchman for advertisers.

What on earth qualifies this guy for a talk show? He’s a contractor, and an average one at that.
What does he have to offer?
Exactly! As a daytime TV Talk Show host. Just ANOTHER run-of-the-mill talk shows that EVERYONE gets sick of eventually! NONE of them ever last! I ‘don’t’ see him doing a Talk Show! If he does, it’s a waste of OUR time! He’s been the EPITOME of Extreme Makeover Home Edition. WHY would he even CONSIDER changing?????? Unless, like ALL shows lately, they will CANCEL that show, too! This show has been running long enough, it’s time for them to cancel the show, no matter WHAT the viewers think!
I think it would be cool to see Ty have his own talk show I just can not see him do that anytime soon because what I read about him is that he is really busy with a lot of thing going on now. But if he does get his own talk show I will be one of the first people to watch it.
Love this guy. Please brighten the talk show space with the likes of Mr. Pennington. He is creative, giving, and driven to improve our lives, and certainly, our days.
Excellent Idea! Daytime has gotten so boring with all the predictable ideas. How to talk to your daughter about sex, what to do if your husband is cheating…blah, blah, blah. Bring on the sexy guy and all his friends and let’s have some fun. What Ty Pennington does on Extreme Makeover is rally people and the visiting celebrities, to do something. That’s be a refreshing change from the what’s on right now. Here’s a hint Ty: no more sofas in daytime! Burn the traditional daytime talk furniture in your first episode and start with that ridiculous sectional sofa on The View.

I say merge his “origins” (Trading Spaces) with Extreme Makeover, into a less “extreme” redo focused on those warm fuzzy families that need some help but don’t have a lot of money. Show viewers how to do low cost, but good quality renovations. Maybe the big thing is that the family gets new appliances or something else as the bonus for appearing on the show.
Wouldn’t this be a Yell Show, not a Talk Show?
Funny, I thought it was just me who thought this guy always seems like he’s shouting. Watching him on Extreme Home Makeover is very annoying, not to mention the endless sob stories. Maybe if he can present compelling daily sob stories that can inspire others in these tough times without having to “move that bus,” it could be moderately interesting.
Be NICE! He gets excited ‘for’ the SHOW!!!! So WHAT is wrong with it???
This could be a really great program if he is paired with a strong female co-host and gets away from the “hot topics” stuff. He seems very interested in a wide variety of subjects involving home and family. His magazine was good. Stranger things have happened and he is so much more interesting and less self absorbed than Nate Berkus. By 2012 Berkus will be done anyway and Ty can take his place.
Ugh, Nate Berkus… Another annoying alum from Oprah University (Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, Gayle).
When I see these horrible announcements everyday, I wonder why does anyone even watch TV. Nothing but brain-dead “entertainment.”
I think Ty should have his own talk show, he would be very good at it because of his personality. He’s very sweet and funny in person as he is on TV. My whole family loves to watch him on Extreme Makeover show, we have never missed an episode. If he gets his own talk show I would definitely watch it.
I’d rather watch paint dry than listen to his head-bobbing loud smoker’s voice for an hour.
And WHAT qualifies YOU to determine that he has a ‘smoker’s voice’? Did you EVER consider each person has their OWN sound to their voice? I don’t know if the man smokes or not? Does it matter? NO! I’m NOT a smoker – but NEVER did I EVER think that of his voice! Next time, reply with something CONSTRUCTIVE!!!! NOT CRITICAL!!!!!
Sounds promising! I think Ty would do very well with a show that combines elements from a traditional daytime talk show with a DIY home-improvement show (similar to how Rachael Ray’s combines a talk show and a cooking show).
I think Ty has shown that the government isn’t needed to get things done. Let the program introduce gov’t programs that are funded by tax-payers (without asking)and have Ty rally the people and local businesses to come to the aid of the project, just like the program does now. Include Dave Ramsey or Clark Howard to present the financial side of the matter. This will save the tax payers scads of money, help others, give people ideas they can implement and show people that gov’t programs aren’t needed to solve every problem. Who solved the problems before the gov’t stepped in? THE PEOPLE! THE NEIGHBORS! As an added bonus, those families that are helped, must in turn, be ‘required’ to ‘go and do likewise’ for others in their community – you know, like a chain reaction.
Don’t even mention the word GOVERNMENT!!!!! WHO are you????

Daytime TV STINKS!!!! Always has, ALWAYS WILL! EXCEPT for the Soaps!!! They are doing the WORST thing possible – by cancelling them all, pretty much!

Families get together in front of the TV to watch EMHE, I’d HATE to see this show cancelled, TOO!
je suis française et je regarde cette emission dès que j’en ai la possibilité, laissons de côté les dessous marketing, politique etc.. c’est une bonne émission et Ty je le quiffe trop…au moins il y a des gens comme “les maçons du coeur” pour aider les plus démunis, pour améliorer leurs vies.

Ty, you CAN’T leave Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. You are “the” person who is the glue for the show. This is my opinion. Whatever you want to do for daytime IN ADDITION to EMHE is fine, as long as you STAY with EMHE! Our family has been watching this show for YEARS! And, no, you do NOT have a smoker’s voice! WHERE did that come from??????? HOW does it pertain to the show?? It’s your voice. That was a personal attack to you, in my opinion. WHY would you leave EMHE? To ‘advance’ to daytime TV? Daytime TV is going to STINK after the Soaps are gone! NO ONE will tune into the major networks anymore. Myself included! I like to read. That is what “I” will be doing with MY time! Stay with PRIME TIME TV! “This” is your best bet! Move to daytime and your career is over. MY opinion.
