With star Kaley Couco sidelined by a broken leg following a horseback accident last weekend, The Big Bang Theory is taking a breather to give more time to the actress to recuperate — and to the writers to figure out how to handle her absence. The Warner Bros TV-produced show is on a scheduled week-long hiatus, which started on Wednesday. Now it has been extended for another week. Cuoco missed the taping at the beginning of this week, and probably won’t be able to start right after the hiatus ends. But producers are optimistic that she may be gone for as few as 2-3 episodes altogether. It is not clear if her injury will be written into the show. But it seems clear that the actress will be able to make a full recovery. It’s been a big week for Big Bang and its the stars. The show is headed into its new Thursday 8 PM slot, and leads Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki and Cuoco netted big salary increases.
Here is the official statement:
“Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions all wish Kaley a speedy recovery, and we look forward to her return. In order to allow her more recuperation time and to adjust future storylines, The Big Bang Theory is taking a two-week production hiatus. However, the show’s broadcast schedule will continue as planned, with no airdate interruptions.”

they have some great guest stars coming this season as well, George Takei and Steve Wozniak
I’ve got it. Her fall gives her amnesia and she suddenly finds herself wondering why she is hanging around with a bunch of dorks when a woman of her looks clearly doesn’t have to. Either that or the fall causes her lesbian split personality to emerge. Lots of possibilities here.
Man up, Kaley – Buffy from Family Affair did multiple episodes of that show with her leg in a cast. Then again, I think she was owned by the studio…
For as much as they are all making now, it should just be written into the script. Though, her character wouldn’t be able to get out of the building without that elevator being fixed….well, there’s an episode right there: “The Equivalence Principle”.
I think any blonde could take her place, just have them say minimal lines… no one will notice the difference.
Did you see the unaired pilot?
If she’s still in the hospital a week after the accident it must be really bad. Her character’s an struggling actor–they can have her finally get a role and go off to film for a while. Injuries like that really suck–I wish her well.
She’s the least enjoyable part of the show. maybe some funnier episodes on the way without her? Otherwise, I agree, throw in any hot blonde and the show is exactly the same.
Maybe for you. For me Penny and Sheldon are the best things about the show.
I watch the show because she’s so stunning. I couldn’t see the show without her.
They definitely should write it into the show. Could have Sheldon attempt to take care of her again. That’s always funny.
Whether she’s in or out, the show will still be AWFUL. The only reason Chuck Lorre keeps selling shows is because there are a hundred million stupid people in America who enjoy beer commercials, American Idol, McDonalds and other lowest-common-denominator pleasures. These laugh track shows are straight out of 1996, and do not even hold a candle to REAL comedies like 30 Rock, The Office, Modern Family or Parks and Rec. WHO CARES if all the cast members come back or not. The show will still reek.
Actually they rehearse all week and FILM before a live audience.
Big Bang Theory is 10 times funnier than 30 rock or Parks and Rec. I am an Office fan and did not find Parks and Rec funny, and 30 Rock is the most overrated piece of crap on tv.
Wow – are you dumb! Just because something was or wasn’t filmed in front of a studio audience has an affect on how funny the material was. In that case, I know where you can get several episodes of “Facts of Life” that were filmed one camera, and I’m sure you’ll think they are a riot!
Also, you completely blew your credibility with the “Parks and Recreation” reference. Be less dumb, seriously.
I watched Parks and Rec three times and never laughed once. Conversely, nearly every line Sheldon utteres (and the WAY Parsons utters it) is laugh-out-loud funny.
I am certain there is a bus that you can step in front of somewhere near your apartment. Go find it! You bitter, pretentious little twat.
So true.
My “So True” comment is meant to respond to “Altered’s post about the quality of the show compared to other shows – , “So true” is not a response to OSLI’s nasty comment.
Those are the stupidest shows on television. Not even a little bit funny. A slight understanding of intellect is all you need to enjoy the Big Bang Theory and find it funny.
You need to calm down and remember that humour is completely subjective. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. I suspect most of it goes right over your head anyway.
Come on… how do you really feel?
We should all sing ‘Soft Kitty’ for her.
Oh, so perfect!
Are you kidding me? McDonalds is awesome! And what’s your problem with beer commercia?
I thought Kaley Cuoco was just another blonde clone of all the other interchangeable young women on broadcast TV. But I was wrong big-time. When Lorre and the writers figured out by the end of the first season that this chick has some serious comic timing, they changed the character and started to write for the actress. She’s come a long way since the first episode and will be missed if she’s written out for a while. All best to her.
I agree with George. “Soft kitty, warm kitty.”
I am surprised the network lets their actors take part in such overtly high-risk activities like horseback riding.
I love the show and sure it’s a particular type of humor that not everyone will get, but Kaley is an integral part of the show. Few female actors could simultaneously go head to head with Sheldon, remain lovable/likable, and be credible.
the bang is the best sitcom to come around in many years, smart writing, and great timing….. and that goes for the so called funny stuff from 30 rock which is not funny at all… they waste a truly funny guy like tracy morgan………
the penny, penny, penny, gag is right out of the marx bros school of funny…
go back and watch all 7 years of barney miller to see what a great sitcom was….. rip landesberg…..
