EXCLUSIVE: IFC Films has made yet another significant acquisition of a Toronto International Film Festival film, paying a low seven-figure minimum guarantee for domestic distribution rights on Peep World, the Barry W. Blaustein-directed film that stars Michael C. Hall, Sarah Silverman, Rainn Wilson, Ben Schwartz, Judy Greer, Kate Mara, Taraji Henson, Lesley Ann Warren and Ron Rifkin. The deal was made by CAA, which repped Peep World producers Occupant Films. Occupant principals Joe Neurauter, Felipe Marino and Keith Calder produced the picture.

The film is the story of a family of four siblings who gather for their dad’s 70th birthday. There they come to terms with a novel that has been published by the youngest sibling, one that exposes the family’s most guarded secrets.

While everybody wondered going into Toronto which distributors might step up to replace the exodus of studio-backed specialty labels, IFC has certainly risen to the occasion. The company made the first major deal of the festival when it paid low seven-figures to acquire the James Gunn-directed Super, also starring Rainn Wilson, as well as Ellen Page, Kevin Bacon and Liv Tyler. IFC then stepped up to acquire Werner Herzog’s breathtaking 3D documentary Caves of Forgotten Dreams, for a healthy six-figure sum. IFC also stepped up to acquire the Barry Avrich-directed unauthorized Harvey Weinstein documentary.
