Syfy is closing the gap between the two parts of Caprica’s first season, shifting the return of the Battlestar Galactica prequel to October 5 when it will air behind new episodes of Stargate Universe. Originally, part 2 of Caprica‘s freshman season was supposed to launch in January, exactly a year after the series’ premiere. “Though we initially announced the January return of Caprica, we still had hopes of finding a way to get the series back on the air sooner,” said Syfy EVP Mark Stern. “We’ve been able to successfully re-work our schedule, and are thrilled to bring the show back during what is traditionally Syfy’s most-watched time of the year.”
There is still no decision on a second season renewal for the series starring Eric Stoltz, Paula Malcomson, Esai Morales and Polly Walker, with a reduced Season 2 order a possibility. While promoting Season 1.5 at Comic-Con, Caprica executive producer David Eick expressed confidence that the series, which has developed following but has been a modest ratings performer, will return for a second season. With Caprica moving to October, the third season of Sanctuary will now launch in its former timeslot on Friday, October 15.

I hope it gets a second season. After a slightly rocky start, the show really picked up steam. If nothing else it is by far the BEST representation ever of the impact of losing a child on a family. Just superbly handled. The kind of show that deserves a chance to continue growth.
Its tough to be fill the shoes of brilliance of battlestar .
they needed to pony up some real $, and get some of the original
Bstar cast to make this resonate with fans..
ratings will agree—its been a big let down to watch….
The show has improved over S1 and having Eick/Moore, who are among the very best showrunners out there, shoukd give SyFy confidence that this will be a success in the long run. It sounds like they will be looking at the ratings it gets for S1.5 before deciding on a renewal. PS SyFy’s marketing of this and their other shows kinda blows. They need to be a bit more imaginative in the future.
Would absolutely love to see a season 2!
Morales and Stoltz are brilliant…let’s hope SYFY figures this one out!!
Very impressed with the visual detials put into this show, and the family sagas are very engaging, but some of the usual BSG faults are also found in Caprica…questionable casting and meandering plotlines…not to mention the over-the-top spirituality elements.
Still – love to see how the story plays out in Season 2.
Loved BSG. Couldn’t get past the Caprica pilot. But hope it does well.
I wanted to love caprica too. But I didnt enjoy the teenage or religious storylines. How could they mess up this show so badly. It needs a major overhaul.Im willing to watch the new season and give this show another chance because that is how much i loved battlestar Galactica. GET RID OF THE TEENAGE GIRLS/KIDS AND PUT REAL MEANINGFUL CHARACTERS. Or this will be the last season.
Syfy’s original creature feature “Mega Piranha” drew 2.2 million viewers and that was more than ever watched a single episode of Caprica.
The most important thing fans must realize is that THEY HAVE THE POWER TO RENEW THE SHOW BY WATCHING IT LIVE. The time for illegal downloads and DVRing, barring responsibilities or medical or work-related emergencies, is over. We can afford to do that for more successful shows. In this case, every viewer counts, so we must do our part. Otherwise, the show dies.
Another thing that will help is buying the Season 1.0 DVD set; it’s not as major as watching the show live, but it’s a factor in the decision to renew.
For fans of BSG who’ve been disappointed, all those involved (actors, writers, producers) state that the second half of season 1 is far better with more action, but — most importantly to me — greater political commentary.
The show suffered after the pilot with the departure of Ronald D. Moore from being head writer; it seems he’s involved a bit more now, so I expect things to improve drastically.
Actually, unless you’re one of the 25,000 viewers participating in the Neilsen survey, then no, you do not have the power to renew the show by watching it live. Only the 0.02% of households with Neilsen boxes have input. Buying the season 1.0 DVD has infinitely more impact.
I think it’ll be DVD sales that’ll really help push the show, that was the case with BSG. Although how 1.5 fares will also help decide season 2.
I like the show so far, I can’t help but think how all the wars and tragedies we’ve seen start with a few people. As for the religious ideas in the show, they were quite integral to BSG and hense need an origin point. I agree about the teen problem stuff, they should lose 90210 feeling.
Dear ‘SyFy’, please don’t screw this up. This show needs to stay on the air, period. Warehouse 13 just doesn’t cut it. Thank you.
I love this show. I love the way that the different story plots can run seperately, but still be able to support a conclusion. The cast is great, the foundation they are building for the development for the cylons is awesome. The only down side is the overwhelming religious foundation that seperates the two sides. If they could tone down the religion and beef up the development of the cylons and even start introducing the first five, that would be something I am sure people would watch.
