EXCLUSIVE: After ending a bunch of old producing pacts as the studio remade itself into a family-friendly franchise film factory, Disney’s production president Sean Bailey has made a 2-year first look deal with Gil Netter and his Netter Productions banner. Netter, who had a deal at 20th Century Fox, certainly fits that family mandate: his most recent producing credits include Marley & Me and The Blind Side, which got him nominated for Best Picture. Netter’s currently working on the Ang Lee-directed Life of Pi, based on the Yann Martel novel adapted by David Magee. Netter just wrapped Water for Elephants, the Richard LaGravanese-scripted adaptation of the Sara Gruen novel which stars Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson and Christof Waltz.

That’s awesome for Gil, he’s an amazing producer and one of the few great guys in the business. I thought his production company was called Zucker Netter Productions? Does anyone know if Zucker is going to Disney as well?
Will all of the Jesus fish in his office be following him to Disney?
Worked with Gil, and he was great. Nice to see him escape the quagmire.
Gil has terrible taste and is a complete weasel – many of his prestige projects are a result of Elizabeth Gabler inexplicably loving the guy and buying stuff for him that he wouldn’t ordinarily get.
Mick, you’re absolutely wrong. Gil is a great guy who is always honest and has good taste.
Not nice! Have to say my husband, a publishing bigshot (I go by my maiden name, I’m a writer & don’t want to embarrass him), works with this guy and his wife — they are wonderful people. Committed. What’s wrong with living according to your convictions? Not cool? What do you have left after everything is said and done? A headache and a hangover or consolation of knowing that you’ve done what you could for what you believed in?
