It wouldn’t be Halloween without Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Starting this week, fans of the vamp queen (aka Cassandra Peterson who started out back in 1981 as the hostess of a local Hollywood horror movie show and then became nationally syndicated) can see ELVIRA’S Movie Macabre every Saturday at midnight on KDOC-TV, an independent TV station based in Orange County. The first classic horror movie featured is zombie thriller Night of the Living Dead.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

She needs to come back to Knotts Scary Farm!!!!
I don’t know who you owed a favor to to, Nellie, but thanks for posting this.
Give Peterson some credit for taking a gig others might think of as “desperate.”
A year from now (when she’s got a national, late night show on cable) it’ll be thought of as a genius idea.
I’m not a horror fan but this kind of programming (as opposed to the onslaught of infomercials late night) might be a fun way to revive late night programming cheaply.
…And the winner of “the most uncalled-for, passive aggressive, backhanded compliment goes to you, “Elivira’sBack”, congratulations! Yes! It’s about time someone FINALLY knocked Ms. Peterson down a peg! I’ll bet that tasted sweet.
Thank you for thanking Nellie. Thank you for your very important opinion. Most of all, thank you for instructing the rest of us to give credit to those who do things others might think of as “desperate”. I give you a lot of credit for that.
KDOC rocks and so does Elvira.
BTW – KDOC, bring back Kolchak!!!
Nobody has any fun on local TV anymore. Doesn’t anybody remember smoking pot all night while watching “Movies ‘Til Dawn” on Channel 5?
“Trick or treat… why not both.”
So glad to see the Mistress of the Dark back on TV — she should be able to class up Saturday late night. (And can I put a vote in for some of the classic Universal monster movies i.e. DRACULA!)
I’m looking forward to Saturday nights with Elvira! You’re right…it wouldn’t be Halloween without her! I enjoy the scarey movies of this season. Just saw an interesting documentary called “Something Unknown”. It features stories from celebrities and experts within the field of psychic powers. We loved it!
Wait… are these reruns of the old Movie Macabre series – or new “episodes”, if you will? Am confused.
Fantastic news! Now if KDOC would just bring back Wally George I’ll be in heaven!
@ Potheimers; Christ do I miss Movies ‘Til Dawn! They used to show lots of great stuff back in the good old days. I also miss Family Film Theater terribly.
Elvira did a Halloween special on WPIX [NYC] last year. Hope she does another this year or PIX picks up this series from KDOC.
I was a teen when I first watched Elvira’s show in the 80s. The movies were bad but I can’t remember if the jokes were bad…because I was lusting after Elvira whenever she was on camera. Sex and monsters. Great memories.
Elvira the girl of my screams,She suppose to be at Screamfest in Orlando in Oct.Im first in line
classic LA
Are you sure these aren’t simply reruns of her old KHJ series? I hardly think a penny-ante station like KDOC has the dough to create new episodes.
I live here in the bay area, why can’t we see Elvira here? My grandson saw her on tv for the first time a couple a years ago, and he thought she was great and the rest of my family. This was during the time of Halloween. Elvira would also be welcome up north. She does bring back memories.
Elvira is back!!what a refreshing and wonderful idea
hahaha… Elvira is the girl in my dreams after I saw her horror movie! I am so glad she’s back! can’t wait to see her again, this is so nice… TTHC
Good question, I’d like to know the answer too. I’m guessing though that
they are reruns since Cassandra is too old now @ 59 to be Elvira.
Way to go Elvira! I came across this last night by chance and have already set my alarm clock for the next show.
i love elvira what channel is her show on, i would love to watch it i use to watch her old show and adored her movies and i think of her all year round she should come out with yearly attire.
59 is too old to be “Elvira”? Ms. Peterson stills looks good (of course makeup helps!)
I’d love to see re-runs of Seymour (Fright Night), but I bet the tapes were thrown out or erased.
What happened? We had Evira/Movie Macabre back on a couple of channels in Denver for about two months Friday and Saturday nights on cable. Then she dissapeared. THere are a lot of people here who miss her. Any chance of getting her back
