TORONTO: JC Chandor, who just wrapped writing and directing the indie financial crisis thriller Margin Call, has made a two-picture writing deal at Warner Bros. His first project: Portofino, an international thriller for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way that is a potential vehicle for the star. Meanwhile, Margin Call is creating buzz in Toronto — partly because Kevin Spacey is here, and also because Myriad Pictures is selling international rights. It stars Jeremy Irons, Paul Bettany, Stanley Tucci, Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgely, Simon Backer, Demi Moore and Mary McDonnell, about how the 2008 financial meltdown impacted a variety of players at a Wall Street investment bank over 24 hours.

When will people (you) learn that in a wobbly economy (okay, wobbly is hardly accurate), rooting for everyone and everything to turn a profit and thus keeping the wheels turning in as many places as possible, might stave off what’s lurking. I’m rooting for you dado.

Wow. Quite a streak he’s on. Buzz out of Toronto is gr8 on MARGIN CALL. If the movie is good, maybe he’ll direct for WB.

Quinto and his prod co produced this thing right? Good for him. Leo’s appian folks (JDK, et al) are script snobs so this guy must really know how to write. Time will tell. I hope the new movie is better than shudder island.
Congrats to Quinto, Before the Door, and J.C. Chandor. Its been an amazing year for all of them, but talent sometimes does get recognized.

he’s set til this Leo thing never gets made and it turns out his movie sucks…man lets hold off on giving this guy an oscar til we actually see something he’s done.
Man, what do you have against this guy dado? Obviously he has done something, written a good script that attracted all those actors on a tiny budget…then a studio hired him to write a couple of scripts. That’s the way this thing is supposed to work. Unlike you dado I’m rooting for him, Maybe just maybe the studios are realizing that there’s still some money to be made from films for grown ups.
what do you have against this guy dado? Some people have seen something he’s done… they read his script that attracted a bunch a great actors while have no money as far as i can tell. imdb pro says the budget was 2 million bucks on Margin Call. So a studio hired him to write for them, thats the way this business is supposed to work.
