After Paula Patton just landed the biggest movie role of her career, the female lead in Mission: Impossible 4, she had to pull out of Law & Order: SVU where she was to play Assistant District Attorney Mikka Von. So now Melissa Sagemiller has been tapped to step in and recur as a new ADA on the show, which returns for a 12th season on Sept. 22. I hear the producers of the veteran NBC procedural from Wolf Films and UMS were gracious in allowing Patton to bow out after only one episode. Stephanie March was the last actress to play an ADA on the show full time. Last year, Sharon Stone and Christine Lahti both did high-profile multi-episode arcs as ADAs. Sagemiller’s series credits include Raising the Bar and Sleeper Cell.

Good move I suppose, but if I were Paula’s reps I’d keep television as a viable option, because being in MI4 is no guarantee that she’s going to be in tentpole franchise after tentpole franchise. Hopefully she’s interested in doing HBO/Showtime type shows which still allow her the time to do film and television (with the truncated seasons).
Just my worthless two cents.
Huh. I get that it’s going to be a giant tentpole movie. But ultimately, it’s going to be marketed and perceived as “a Tom Cruise movie.”
On the other hand, you’ve got a long-running series which definitely isn’t as glamorous, but will probably net you way more $ over the course of its run.
Was this really a wise move? It’s not like Thandie Newton’s career skyrocketed after MI:2 and while Michelle Mognahan has worked steadily since MI:3, it didn’t turn her into an A-lister either…
Here’s wishing Paula better success.
Why not just keep stephanie march, her acting has always been one of this shows strengths
Amen to that why not get Stephanie March back!
I would have preferred to see Thandie Newton return to the M.I. series. As for Patton’s replacement… A White, blonde, Shocking.
Paula Patton could easily fit in with other actresse’s who have been in the “James Bond” movies. Anybody else think so?
I wish they would stop switching ADAs!! Bring back Diane Neal!!!!
I hate the MI movies. They are bad and Tom Cruise is to boring
As a fan of the SVU show, I’d have to say I wish they had hired Diane Neal back as ADA Casey Novak.I found hers the most compelling portrayal of any ADA- and there’s lots of history there with the regular cast of characters.Win win.My two cents worth!
