Beverly Hills – Announcing ”1 Voice”: A Star Filled Evening of Entertainment in support of the embattled Motion Picture Home’s residents and its uncertain future. The Board of Directors of the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF) is committed to closing the entertainment community’s historic nursing home and hospital in Woodland Hills, CA. The impending closure displaces Hollywood’s most frail and vulnerable residents from their campus home in the Long Term Care facility.
’1 Voice’ is a celebrity-packed evening to raise industry and community awareness of the resident’s plight. The NEO Ensemble Theatre is sharing an evening of all-star entertainment in support of the efforts of Saving the Lives Of Our Own, the advocacy group dedicated to keeping the residents in the Motion Picture Home and to preserving the MPTF’s historic mission and promise of “taking care of our own” to all entertainment industry workers.
The Los Angeles based non-profit theater company is producing an Evening of Monologues, Music and Memories on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 7:30 pm at the Renberg Theater at the Village, 1125 N. McCadden Place in Hollywood, CA 90038.
The evening will include scheduled performances and appearances by Richard Dreyfuss, John Schneider, Lorenzo Lamas, Kathryn Joosten, Gloria Loring, Esai Morales, George Chakaris, Dawn Wells, and Renee Taylor & Joseph Bologna. Also appearing are Shirley Jones & Marty Ingels, Bill Smitrovitch, Connie Stevens, Lou Ferrigno, Jerry Douglas, Kate Linder, James Intveld, Ben Henry, George Barris, Nic Novicki, and cast members of The Event, Young and the Restless, Bold & The Beautiful, and members of the Neo Ensemble Theatre. Celebrity appearances are subject to change due to artists’ schedules and availability. Additional celebrities will be announced.
Tickets prices range from $20 (seniors) up to $99 and are available at www.NeoEnsembleTheatre.org, 800-838-3006.

This sounds like a nice event but, can’t Jeffrey Katzenberg and his committee just each write a check to keep the hospital open? How about all those actors making eight figures a picture, can’t they each through in some $$$? Seems like they’re trying to plug a huge hole with a tiny stopper.
A friend reminded me that keeping the Motion Picture Nursing Home open is a shared responsibility that belongs to all of us. If the Fund will commit to finding a way to maintain and improve long term care on the Wasserman campus, I’ll take out my checkbook when asked.
This should be a very pivotal, and emotional evening. We lost Harold Gould recently at the Motion Picture Home. Although he wasn’t a patient in the nursing home, he was fortunate to end his days in the security that the industry helped to provide without worrying if he had to move.
All these great people are helping. I can’t believe Richard Dreyfuss is going to be there, but it makes sense. Can’t wait.
It is so cool that someone is doing this. It’s such a worthy cause. Thank you everyone involved. I have bought two tickets.
Kathryn Joosten? I’m there!
Richard Dreyfuss is a brilliant actor and man. Hopefully his stepping out will serve as the turning point in stopping the closure of the HOME. Hopefully other stars who have followed Katzenberg in his unwavering quest to close the HOME no matter what, will wake up to their humanity and step out like Richard Dreyfuss. Hopefully they believe that the lives of old people have value and they should not be discarded like garbage.
Hats off to Neo Ensemble Theatre, Saving the Lives of Our Own and all the wonderful actors jumping on board!
There are few causes as worthy of support as the Motion Picture Home (too late for the hospital). The list of performers is impressive yet I have to ask: where are all the young performers currently cashing in huge paychecks, like Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, the cast of ‘Glee?’
It’s heartwarming to know that celebrities really do care about the Home’s residents, and care about the future of the place. The picture of John Schneider fitting a resident for shoes on the savingthelivesofourown.org website says it all. Everyone wants to help. Everyone cares. MPTF has only to open the doors and let the sunshine in. Harmony and understanding, Sympathy and trust abounding, No more falsehoods or derisions, Golden living dreams of visions. Start over again with the founders’ vision, Katzenberg’s fund raising prowess, and the right management all in place.
As the director of “1 Voice”, I welcome all the Justin’s and Miley’s of “young Hollywood” who would like to come out and support the evening. These 44 remaining residents need a voice to live out their lives. But it’s also about the next 44 who should have been able to go and get the same level of care that was envisioned so many years ago.
And please contact the cast of “Glee”, they’d be peferct! Ryan Murphy, are you out there??? Contact me at http://www.neoensembletheatre.org !!
See you ALL Oct 5th!

When it comes to Saving Haiti and Saving Katrina Victims or Saving others around the world, George, Brad, Angelina, Leonardo, Steve S.,
Jeffrey K., David G., seem to always open their hearts and wallets. However, when it comes to Saving Their Own at the MPTF, they are noticeably silent! Shame on you!
It’s time for our big “Stars” and corporate leaders who support Katzenberg at his “Night Before” fundraisers to have a talk with him… to let him know that they will no longer support his desire to get rid of the most elderly, sick and needy on the beautiful 40 acre MPTF Campus in Calabasas.
I spent hours looking through the names of people who signed the petition to keep the motion picture long term care facility open. Incredible comments. Sign it and browse the powerful voices that support the facility and would donate to a fund raising campaign for its future.

Can’t wait to support the Motion Picture Home and see all these wonderful members of the industry speak up on behalf of residents of Long Term Care – they are the reason this Home was established 90 years ago and that promise needs to continue for all generations to come.
SOOO…how is this a Fundraiser???
Quote from article:
“’1 Voice’ is a celebrity-packed evening to raise industry and community awareness of the resident’s plight.”
There is a lot of talk and “celebrity” names being thrown out, but I don’t see a solution.
This article boasts of nothing. Fools will come out to this play to support a theater group and a so-called activist group that asks for donations on their website that are not tax deductible. THINK ABOUT IT! Your money is going to the “out-of-pocket” expenses. You’re supporting the activist’s administration costs. Don’t believe me…check out their site.
You want to support MPTF? Start by not supporting this group.
NEO Ensemble Theatre is a NON-PROFIT theater group.
I want to support any group that raises entertainment industry awareness of the situation and the residents. I want to support an MPTF that cares for needy and sick people in the Home in addition to all the other nice but not vital programs.
Curious…Do you volunteer? Do you donate?
OR
is supporting this group your first time supporting MPTF?
Who are you anonymous? I’d like to understand your agenda.
Thank you Dean for all that you have done for our cause. Anonymous has no agenda other than to curry favor with people who might hire him in the future. This is a sorry excuse for a human being who hides behind anonymity lest the community finds out who they really are.
I don’t have an agenda. I believe people have been misguided into thinking that Saving The Lives of Our Own is a “good cause”. This is a group of people that let their emotions and personal agenda run wild. Families and residents have been terrorized by this group. Residents are being used in many different ways to support their ideology.
The facts on the reasoning for the closure are out there, and MAYBE thats why your “big” stars aren’t with you…MAYBE there is a solution to the closure and MAYBE AND JUST MAYBE this advocacy group is more of the problem…
Wasn’t there a celebrity auction a few months ago that raised over $10,000 (probably more, right)?
How much money do you need to run your website? If all of this is for a good cause…how much money do you need to support it? What are your expenses? Video production? I was just looking for the video about the auction…where is it now?
There are several volunteers on campus, myself included, that do good work every week (out of pocket expenses included) that don’t ask for a dime!
Response to Richard-
“Why don’t get off your knees, crawl out from under that dark place and take a stand using your real name?”
I don’t want to be harassed by you or your colleagues. This is a terrorist group of people that enjoy scaring people. The proof is in the way this group will write on a public forum. They are threatened by people that like to support fact rather than fiction.
You make your point very well. I will not support the MPTF any longer in their present state. I support any group or individual that is effecting change to their current practice. In your stupidity some sense is made.
Thank you anonymous. We checked out their website and watched the video Don’t Let the Promise Be Broken. It is disgraceful that this institution has fallen into disrepair from its glory Lew Wasserman glory days. The Wasserman family must be distraught over what is happening out there. What I don’t understand is why Katzenberg did not want to go on a campaign to save it unless he and they are intentionally driving it down. In that case, another word for what is going on comes to mind.
Dear Anonymous,
Thank you so much for making our point again! As you cleary state this is an “AWARENESS” event! The simple point of this evening has ALWAYS been about keeping people talking about the problem. To continue to shine a light on the issues. And yes, even “Awarness” takes money to keep going. Btw, NEO Ensemble Theatre IS a non profit theatre company.
Let’s all keep TALKING and FIND a solution…see you Oct 5th…well, maybe not you anonymous..but then how would I know you anyway! :>
Peace everyone,
John F. McCormick
Director, 1 Voice
Board member, NEO Ensemble Theatre
Why are you so against the advocate group? Teamsters and SAG support their goals. I saw a video of the rally this year and the SAG president Mr. Ken Howard was right out there supporting the group. The teamsters guy was Right right
If it weren’t for Saving the Lives of Our Own, the nursing home would have been bulldozed, Tillman would still be in power (to the detriment of our health services), and more people would be ending their lives in facilities that you wouldn’t kennel your dog in. Saving the Lives has done exactly that, no thanks to you or your opinion – and they’ve done it largely from their own checkbooks.
You don’t see a solution? You’re blind. The solution has already started working. The place is still open. Nobody has been forced out for a long time.
This is one so-called activist group that puts their own resources where their mouths are. The question is ‘anonymous’ – where do you put your mouth? Who at the MPTF benefits from your participation? Why don’t get off your knees, crawl out from under that dark place and take a stand using your real name?
Jump in for the big win. It’s not too late.
Response to Richard-
“Why don’t get off your knees, crawl out from under that dark place and take a stand using your real name?”
I don’t want to be harassed by you. Residents and Family members have been harassed several times by this group.
Saving Lives has done more for the rest of us than our unions about this misguided plan to end the Motion Picture Home. I don’t work for them or for mptf but I know right from wrong. I too would like to know your motivation for attacking them since they support the mptf and the residents.
What ever happened to George Clooney?
Didn’t he say he was going to fundraise and bring in his pals to keep the Home open?
Guess Jeffrey made a call to him after his interview. So much for morality when it comes to your own back yard.
If it’s about a shortage of money, how come Jeffrey Katzenberg will not fund raise and will not accept donations to keep the Home open for future generations?
It sounds like he doesn’t want the MPTF Campus to have old people on it. Maybe the nursing home goes first, and then the more independent facilities follow. Has anybody asked him what he has in mind? Why is he making this decision for the entire entertainment industry?
Why don’t more stars who attend his fund raising Night Before parties speak up? What are they afraid of? They too may need the Home in the future.
From what I understand the MPTF is in part a charity. I wonder how many of the participating performers in this event volunteered, or gave $$, or wrote codicils to their wills, to support the nursing home, prior to the closing announcement. I’d be skeptical of photos on a website. Does John Schneider have deep, generous pockets, or does he show up for photo ops? I’ll probably get flamed for this but health care in general has become incredibly complex and I don’t know why the MPTF should be immune. Will the money raised be used to keep the place open? Will it be donated to other parts of the fund that may be in peril? Aren’t there better ways to raise awareness than charge for tix to a week night event that has no big names attached?
Members of Saving the Lives of Our Own have consistently violated the rights and privacy of residents since the days of their “advocacy” began by going into residents’ rooms without their permission or permission of their families, taking photographs of them, and posting these pictures on their website, and using these images at their rallies. Members of this group have taken people on unauthorized tours of the facility and entered residents’ rooms, sometimes with upwards of 10-15 people without speaking with the resident about these visits beforehand. Certain members of this group continue to intimidate staff who are trying to care for the remaining families, one going so far as to threaten a staff member with “serious consequences” if his instructions regarding his mother’s attendance at a farewell party for another resident were not followed to his satisfaction. Everyone is in agreement that the residents in the MPTF LTC are vulnerable and have rights. Just don’t be blinded by Saving the Lives of Their Own’s perversion of advocacy for those rights.
You sound like a lone voice in a storm. Saving the Lives has kept the LTC open. End of story. They are recognized by both sides of the issue as the flag bearers for the rights of the residents. Hey, nobody is perfect. My money is on them that by continuing to shine a light on the predicament of the residents, and the ministrations of a few hold-outs who still think that the LTC will close, that the nursing home will remain open.
If it weren’t for Saving the Lives, this topic would not even be up for discussion. It would be moot, the doors would have closed forever.
So basically what you are saying is that it is OK for Saving the Lives of Their Own to violate resident rights and intimidate staff as long as the end result is that the LTC stays open. What a frightening and hypocritical perspective, considering that this group is constantly accusing MPTF of violating resident rights.
we happen to think that the hollywood/;la community is specia;l; but if you cant look after your own when you are a small group within that? what sort of world would you like to live… ? do unto others, etc… luck babes…
