NBC has picked up My Life As an Experiment, a half-hour comedy project produced by Jack Black and written by Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith. Based on the best-selling non-fiction book Guinea Pig Diaries: My Life As An Experiment by journalist/author A.J. Jacobs, the show chronicles the adventures of an immersion journalist and how these unusual assignments comedically affect his home life with his wife and two kids. It hails from Jack Black’s Electric Dynamite Prods., Reveille, where Electric Dynamite has a production deal, and Sony Pictures Television. Sony TV-based comedy writing duo Yuspa and Goldsmith will write/executive produce My Life as an Experiement, which I hear landed a seven-figure penalty, one of the biggest for a comedy project so far this development season. Yuspa and Goldsmith, who have been at Sony since 1997, executive produced and ran the studio’s long-running comedy The King of Queens before segueing to development. They created and executive produced 2 series, Fox’s ‘Til Death and ABC’s Big Day.

because TESTEES did so well?
Yeah, they didn’t CREATE “King of Queens,” and they’ve been riding that train for years. They CREATED “‘Til Death” and “Big Day.” ‘Nuff said.
As usual in this business people fail upwards
Bad concept, bad writers. The book is totally contrived, and would get old by ep 3. On the film side, at least Yuspa and Goldsmith work with commercial concepts…in TV, they tend to come up with hacky concepts like Till Death and Fish Tank and then execute them even more poorly than you’d expect.
Man, I hope it’s hilarious as “‘Til Death” was.
Has anyone here actually worked with them? They are two of the more talented showrunners working in TV today. They aren’t “riding” the King of Queens train — they were a critical part of some of the best years of that show. No one who was around then would discount what they did to make that show a hit, and a money machine for Sony.
And there is a reason networks keep buying from them. They deliver smart and ambitious pilot scripts, and are totally pleasant through the process. That’s a rare combination. The writers on here bashing their success would be wise to learn from it.
It’s fun to write anything you want behind the wall of anonymity (look… I’m doing it, too!), but cute usernames alone can’t compensate for jealousy and ignorance.
Dear Comedy Central,
I’m a very funny person, and a creative artist. I have a great sense of humor!!!!!
I know the formula for jokes is mixing metaphores (syllogisms) and clean algebra….I’m big on imagination and am plenty good enough with algebra…..I know a dime in a braziere from a dime, a cantalope or a pizza. big Hooters) .
I have made fun of the stock market as if it was the Mummy in the Mummy movie with Brandon Fazer and wearing a backini, because I’m a girl and getting drunk with a margarita, because I understand the magnitude of the 2008 August stock market crash that was a 50% MYTHOLOGICAL crash.
I’m looking to move back to the Big Apple and write sitcoms for Comedy Central.
Even though Hollywood and MS used the book Statistics for Dummies to automate search engines for movies, you still need original content for joke!!!!!
And I have a great sense of humor! I understand sarcasm as debt ,and satyre as being so not funnny it’s funny. They used search engines comedy formula for the for the Big Bang Theory and Shoot Me sitcoms within the last six months.
I’m a natural- because even though I’m a Pices- I’m a Sagitarius at heart.
My resume as a journalist for three local newspapers including San Diego, and NYC- Washington Square News- and a Think Tank, Global Exchange- taught me writing skills- these research/writing skills really have no other value in this application. I’ve been a journalist for seven years.
Just because I lost my apartment and am currently staying at Neil Good Shelter for the Homeless doesn’t mean that I’m dumb and can’t think on my feet. Believe me, you have to have a sense a humor when you’re homeless- and everyone wants to bamboozle you…being a push over has won more friends than I ever imagined.
Comedy is the great anti-depressant- and mood stabilizer for unknown visitors camping out next to you on the street, or sstrategy for the Pentagon (I interned for three years) , or releiving stress for those brokers and investment bankers coming home after a long day on Wall Street.
I’m sorry I don’t have a current phone number- so I will have to leave a message with you. Looks unfortunately are not my strength, but I’m really easy going, and my personality makes up for the not so GQ beauty quotient.
