UPDATE: CAA finally announced this internally during the today.
Previous: Joel Lubin and Jim Toth are the new heads of CAA’s motion picture talent department, replacing Tracy Brennan and Jimmy Darmody. Lubin joined CAA in 2004 after more than four years at the William Morris Agency and before that he ran Nick Nolte’s production company with Greg Shapiro, which produced Affliction. Toth came to the talent division from CAA’s New Media division where he was promoted from trainee to agent in 2000 after joining CAA in 1995. He’s now a tabloid fixture as CAA client Reese Witherspoon’s current boyfriend.

Boys – help put smart writing, strong scripts on the screen. Give us something to go see. The Town is a clear signal we want movies, we do not want amusement park rides. Here’s to the Beautiful Girls, Affliction, Bringing out the Dead, Good Will Huntings of the world. Can’t wait to have a reason to see what’s playing again. With Ebert coming back on PBS, with the debacle of that dope Ben, everything point full steam ahead. Good luck guys.
what would be really cool is to remake all those unsuccessful, overrated, money-losing movies you listed (Bringing out the Dead? Affliction? you have seriously affection for these pretentious self-indulgences?). Remake them in 3D, or animated, or starring kids from Nick and the Disney Channel. because that is what we, the ticket buyer, want. so, stop with your self-pitying “Oh, why can’t all movies be as good as “Beautiful Girls” bullshit and get to work making something commercial.

Hey, along with the news of promotions and department juggling, isn’t this the season of CAA layoffs and firings? Surely, they will be trimming some of the fat this year? Those lazy MP agents who don’t do much more than back up Kevin, Bryan, Richard, etc? Surely it is time for some heads to roll?! Do I have to name names?? Give us the good stuff!
