WRITETHRU: A tense hostage situation ended safely by late afternoon when a lone gunman with ”concerns over the Discovery Channel” was shot and killed by police snipers. His 3 hostages were safely rescued inside the Silver Spring, MD, building under seige. The Discovery Communications headquarters had been quickly evacuated of workers for safety reasons when the gunman first brandished weapons inside. Employees were told to go home and not return to the building. Authorities identified the gunman as James Jay Lee, a longtime protester of Discovery (photo right) who listed his last known address as a homeless shelter. He held the hostages for several hours before police snipers ended the seige by shooting him dead.

“Concerns about the Discovery Channel”?
Why is it that Discovery, a channel that actually tries to educate the public, is being held hostage, while Fox News is allowed to spew their drivel without anyone batting an eye?
Lee is obviously a mentally ill man, probably some form of schizophrenia. He needs help and prayer, not derision and vilification. It’s a small miracle no one was killed.
What about Lee? Hostage situations are nearly impossible to end without bloodshed. It’s a shame that killing him was the only apparent solution. In addition, a strong enough belief in an idea, a fact or an opinion can appear to others as a mental illness, so it’s ignorant to assume he suffers from schizophrenia without proof.
Scary situation, glad it ended well for the hostages.
I smell a TV movie. The Mentalist’s Tim Kang had better start packing on the pounds!
No comments from the peanut gallery? Oh, must be the fact the gunman is an enviro-wacko who says he experienced “an awakening” when he saw “An Inconvenient Truth”.
Well, thank God no one was hurt save for this guy. The pictures of little children being led to safety were heartbreaking.
Hmmm, it seems that he was “awakened” by Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth and considered human infants to be parasites.
It’s really heartbreaking that someones life gets to this disasterous situation;
I heard he was a History Channel fan. When will the senseless partisan violence between Discovery and History Channel fans end?
