Toronto has just gotten underway, but the deals are falling from the sky already. I’m hearing that Wild Bunch is close to making a deal for Music Box to distribute Potiche in the U.S. The Francois Ozon-directed French farce stars Catherine Deneuve and Gerard Depardieu in what’s been described by critics as a screwball comedy that’s still “arch, knowing, and self-aware”. The film has privately screened for buyers since around the time of the Cannes Film Festival, and it made its fest premiere in Venice. Music Box is starting to make waves, especially after it made a deal for all three Swedish-made films from the Stieg Larsson book trilogy.

Telluride, Toronto…so much going on, yet I’m sitting here in Property.
Catherine Deneuve is playing Sue Sylvester?
omg @wiscojoe i thought the same thing! hahaha.
Wow, yeah I’m so excited about another Fracois Ozon film. He hasn’t made anything watchable since SWIMMING POOL. Then he declared how badly the US and UK sucked (despite nothing but acclaim from those countries), and would only make French-language films, etc. He’s a boring douchebag and his films aren’t much better. Can you even spot anyone other than uptight bourgeois white people in his pictures? (I couldn’t, in the four I saw–even in settings where it’s inconceivable all the people would be white). He’s like Woody Allen minus all the talent, but with twenty times the pretention and attitude. At this point, nothing he does is ever going to succeed financially. This is why few people want to distribute his films. He’s a bore, even on the arthouse circuit. Give me Gaspar Noe or even Lars von Trier over this tedious clown.
I’ve seen this film and it’s great. A true return to form for Ozon. American audiences are going to eat it up.
