Reliable sources tell me that Eddie Fisher has died. He was 82. [UPDATE: His daughter, Tricia Leigh Fisher of Los Angeles, told the AP that he died Wednesday night at his Berkeley home of complications from hip surgery.] The singer and entertainer and TV star of his own show and co-star of films Bundle Of Joy and Butterfield 8 had his heyday in the 1950s. In 1953 Fisher was given his own 15-minute TV show called Coke Time, sponsored by the Coca-Cola company; it was so popular that Coke then offered Eddie an unprecedented $1 million contract to be their national spokesperson. But Fisher is best known for having been married to Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor, and Connie Stevens and for fathering multitalent Carrie Fisher and TV actress Joely Fisher. He created quite the worldwide scandal when he dumped his first wife, America’s sweetheart Reynolds, to marry his best friend’s widow, America’s sex symbol Taylor, who then dumped him for Richard Burton. Fisher became reviled and his career never recovered. (The two women later mocked Fisher in a thinly veiled TV movie about their relationship.) Fisher wrote two autobiographies which prompted Carrie to declare: ”That’s it. I’m having my DNA fumigated.”

Fisher had the GREATEST VOICE of all the singers of his era. We still love you Eddie. Rest in peace.
Hope someone releases his complete Coke Time TV Shows on DVD for his fans.
R.I.P. I remember him fondly for his talents both on and off stage. Through it all he was a great entertainer and father. I wish his daughters only the best through this difficult time.
All the best to Carrie and Todd. Debbie I’m sure you feel bad for the kids. Well Carrie nobody left to make fun of eating his hearing aids. He was better in the end then when he was younger and always very nice to me.
All my sympathies,
Someone close
Lived through all of the romances and scandals of Eddie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, and Elizabeth Taylor. It was such a disappointment in those days because these were the sweethearts of Hollywood.
Am sorry to hear that Eddie Fisher has died. His singing carries his legendary stardom. He’ll be missed.

Great scoop Nikki. No one else had this when you tweeted it.
Straight karma what Liz Taylor did to him (or should I say, he did to himself)
These commenters aside—all over Hollywood people are reading this and saying, “who?”
People in Hollywood saying “who was he”–Stupid comment !!!
Or is it you that is plain “STUPIDF
That might be because many of today’s people who enjoy the arts, only appreciate the day’s top 40, based on sales. No taste or talent taken into account.
While the majority of people who are reading this on internet may be too young to remember him, there are millions of older fans that smile when they recall one of his songs.
Just recently learned of your website and read about Eddie Fisher’s death.
Very interesting stories. Thank you very much. I have added your website to my list of favourites.
His version of “Sunrise Sunset” is great.
I was an Eddie Fisher fan club president back in 1953. I went to Coke Time many times which was broadcast from NYC.
He had the greatest singing voice.
I am truly sorry to hear of his passing
I was also president of one of Eddie Fisher’s fan clubs. I met him twice, and he was very kind to me, saying he appreciated my work as an active fan club president. Each time he asked about my life and seemed genuinely interested. A great voice was silenced on Wednesday. RIP Eddie.
Going through old scrapbooks, found a treasure trove of Eddie Fisher memorabilia. Happy to send them along to a collector.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Eddie’s kids, Carrie, Todd, Tricia and Joely and the rest of his family.
He was a great man. I love him forever. Thank you Eddie for everything.
Sorry Carrie.
When i was a kid i use to sit on my dad’s lap & the whole family would listen to him sing “O MY PAPA” he had a magical voice-
& also had many faults . In later years i saw him in the broadway show “WISH U WERE HERE”-The nite i saw him he cried on stage & walked off & Buddy Hackett had to come on stage in a bath robe & a few minutes of comedy till Eddie recoverd –It was very sad –
Eddie Fisher was a great entertainer –I am sorry to see him pass!
always a fan….. played his records with teen radio show back in 1955 and carry a penny he gave me at the Andy Williams taping saying always keep the penny and never be broke. still have it til this day. will be missed
Met you and Debbie at Blinstrub’s in Boston. Still holding those memories dearly. See you “O Mein Papa”.
@Sue
Did you live in Evanston in the late 60s?
The two women later mocked Fisher, but each in their own time was his. It’s sad how women passing through one’s bed suddenly lose respect when they stop getting…
To his family,
I was one of the bobby-soxers who loved Eddie Fisher. What a voice. I used to rush home every day to catch his tv show. I was crushed when he was drafted but I would scour the TV Guide every week to find where he might be a guest. Definitely an avid fan. My condolences and best wishes to the family. I personally feel a great loss also.
Sympathy for his family and friends over their loss. as holly wood has now lost one of its legends. even if he was most known for being another of the legendary Elizebeth’s taylor’s husbands.
Anybody saying “who” should check out YouTube. A truly great voice in the days of great voices. “O My Papa” was the one that I remember best. “I’m Walking Behind You” was another.
At the time it was Eddie and Vic Damone as the pop tenors of the day.
Miss you Eddie.
I care!
