Showtime’s new programming chief David Nevins shows continuity with a renewal of the network’s comedy series The Green Room with Paul Provenza, which has received a six-episode order. Season 2 will be filmed in Los Angeles for a 2011 premiere. Hosted by comedian Paul Provenza, each episode features a handful of comedians as they tackle topics in an uncensored format. Provenza executive produces the series with Barbara Romen.

So glad to see this news. The show provided many hearty laughs, especially in the finale with Tommy Smothers, Penn Jilette and Martin Mull.
Good move Showtime!! Excellent series. The Jonathan Winters, Robert Klein episode was incredible (as were the rest). Kudos to Provenza and Romen.
Can’t believe this. I got through four episodes last season before giving up. Show was unfunny, obviously chopped to shit and the audiences looked like they were being held hostage. Showtime could do better.
This is fantastic news! Paul has really struck a great balance with this show that allows comics to be funny and at the same time be relaxed and really be themselves.
Watching this show is like eavesdropping in on great conversations. I’ve seen the first season and can’t wait for a second season to be on the screen.

I have yet to watch the greenroom, but judging on showtime’s other comedy specials I think I’ll pass. Did anyone see that AWFUL stand up special done by “comedian” and “character actor” Kevin Pollack? If so do not waste your time. And then there’s the beyond terrible sketch comedy of Jeff Garcia, which I thought was produced in a high school multimedia class.
Other than weeds, showtime doesn’t really seem to ‘get’ comedy. If you were a network executive would you greenlight a stand up routine from Kevin Pollack?
Hey Altered!
Paul Provenza’s “The Green Room” is a hilarious, brilliant, thought provoking comedy show unlike any other on cable. It is an uncensored, witty, no holds barred 21st century algonquin round table.
Before dismissing a show that you’ve not seen, such as The Green Room with Paul Provenza, you should absolutely check it out. You are missing out on some beautiful verbal jazz that is neither rehearsed or discussed before the show tapes. It is impromptu at its best.
In addition, I would like to add that along with “The Green Room” series, Showtime has some of the best programming on cable. Weeds, United States of Tara, Californication, Dexter, Penn & Teller’s BULLSHIT and The C Word.
I was very fortunate to have been at the THE GREEN ROOM tapings. The energy and buzz in the room was lightning in a bottle. It was a huge comedy orgy and i can’t wait to go back for more. Paul is a gracious host. He spoke to and hung out with the audience collectively and individually.
Looking forward to more tapings and some brilliant comedy.
a 6 episode season? that’s some season.
maybe it’s a mini-series?
Loved the show. So glad showtime is bring it back!
