I can’t blame Sly Stallone for wanting to milk The Expendables for all its worth. On his new Twitter account, Stallone says his director’s cut will be out in about six months but also “Inferno, which is the documentary, will be out soon – its hard core – everybodys on it.” What’s described as a brutal smackdown scene with former pro wrestler “Stone Cold” Steve Austin when a stunt went wrong on the Brazilian set of the movie, as well as the resulting trip to the hospital where Stallone was told he needed surgery for a spinal cord injury to his neck, are all captured in the documentary Inferno: The Making of The Expendables. Sly also just finished up The Expendables‘ DVD commentary. “Turned out great, think you’ll like it.” He’s already soliciting opinions about Expendables II. (FYI, Sly asks everyone including his gardener about his films.) “I am thinking what would be the most dangerous places in the world to set the sequel?… Had dinner with Bruce Willis… I want him in Expendables II as a super villain. What do you think?”

It has to be better than the first. I wouldn’t call the first one “good” but decent. More like a homage to the Golan Globus days of 80′s cheese.
Be tough not to call the sequel, “The Dependables”
Well, the formula is about getting somebody out of somewhere impossible. Maybe Sly’s gardener remembers “The Wild Geese II”? Getting Rudolf Hess out of Spandau Prison.
On the same note, forget Siberia and russian oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsy. Expandables don’t like to work in the cold. It’s gotta be warm. And the boys need to blow up things. They could shoot parts in Germany and qualify for some government money (Musketeers 3D received a cool 13 Million Dollars from Germany). Actually the story should play in Europe. Move from / blow up / one City after the other. The boys are loved all over Europe!
This is the coolest movie ever made. Non-stop action! I only wish Stallone were younger so he could put out 10 sequels!
What makes you think he won’t put out 10 sequels? There is no doubt in my mind that he probably will. Go Sly!
Expendable 2 should be a mission to rescue two kidnap victims: Rambo and boxer Rocky Balboa. Sly Stallone should play all 3 parts.
Dump Randy Couture. Expand Terry Crews role. Leave Mickey as their grounded friend who drops by to tell stories and drop his brand of wisdom.
And make the villains just as awesome as the Expendables. Make a team of bad guys with folks like Snipes, Segal, Willis, Cage, Michael Jai-White (And throw in a woman as well who is as equally kick ass).
The main issue with the first film was that the bad guys were just Roberts and Austin running around and we all knew they stood no chance.
Better villains, better movie.
‘Expendables’ was a bad film unfortunately.
Even a high-school student could have written better parts for the great cast – although I’m a huge fan of Stallone.
Stallone needs to get back to his wonderful core roots of Rocky where you cheered, cried, and laughed.
He needs to also pull himself away from Nu Image and Millenium Pictures which have consistently made the worst movies of the past 2 decades.
I take it you have never been to a film market. Avi Lerner’s line for sales meetings is the longest one ALWAYS. Maybe his movies work best in foreign markets with a few major US hits thrown in.
Who else will Sly solicit to be in Exp II??? That’s what really pushed first pic through and plucked die hard action fans from they’re HD tvs in the first place. Who are we trying to kid thinking otherwise? Its only action, who cares about the plot. I hope they go to Mexico for a dangerous place and have cameo’s from every action man alive. Where are the t-shirts, posters and toys Sly?
Dangerous? Mexico location, fighting drug cartels. Add Danny Trejo, Benicio Del Toro, Banderas. Pure non-stop action.
YES to a sequel! If Arnold stays away from politics then have him and Sly team up! 80′s wet dream
Funny you should say this. I said the same thing in an email to our governor. It’s a good thing that Sly is still making movies so our former governor will have a job next year because his political life is over.
The most dangerous place on Earth?
First, it can not be a cold place because macho guys in parkas look like Michael Cera skiing.
Second, the more primitive the governing structure the more freedom to travel around and blow things up. And the more power to the dictator/despot who runs things.
This leaves Africa.
Love to see a re-match between Stallone and Wesley Snipes.
Sly is such a likable character that you have to forgive all his film making foibles ! The movie delivered exactly what is promised.I think instead of a sequel this should become a TV series–they are a much better A Team than the losers Fox put out.
That was nice of him to ask his gardener (???).
Yes! That’s what we all can’t wait for! Stallone’s DVD commentary!!!
WHAT HAPPEN TO CHUCK NORRIS? He’s his own army and would kill everyone including Stallone with his bare hands… tied to his back… while blindfolded.
“Sly asks everyone including his gardener about his films.” – Everyone in the movie business should ask for feedback.
“I am thinking what would be the most dangerous places in the world to set the sequel?”-
Grozny, Chechnya, Russia – There is more Russian Mafia in this place than police. This city is not run by government officials, but by gangsters.
It’s where Fred Rubin as kidnapped.
The fella who commented about Nu Image being the worst is correct. Nu Image is the place to go when nobody is interested in your movie or script. If you have good connections you go to Nu Image and ask for backing. If you take a look at their films there is always some personal connections. I don’t think Nu Image has ever made a film from a spec script or from a first time writer. Get a name, any name, they don’t read the script but they base their backing on how much revenue they can expect to generate from DVD from that name. Therefore, awful scripts, awful movies…Nu Image.
Good for Stallone, a hard worker that deserves this hit. With such limp noodle action starts these days it’s great to see the big boys back on the big screen. The behind the scenes clips for this movie are addicting so can’t wait to see a full doc.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Expendables. It was a mindless action flick that harked back to the good ol’ days when muscle bound neanderthals would kill an obscene number of unamed henchmen to save a pretty girl and avert a global crisis. Yes, some of the acting was terrible, the fabled scene with Sly, Willis and Arnie felt awkward and forced, and the whole thing lacked the ‘feel’ of an old school action film, but it was more than enjoyable. Plus, Sly wisely helpd back on the blood and gore and didn’t make the same mistake as Rambo.
I can see Willis as the new baddie, with Arnold teaming up with Sly to take him down. Lets face it, most of the audience for the original movie wanted to see a lot more of the three together.
BRING ON MR. T!!
Well, the film was a big disappointment and Sly really seems to have lost any sense of what makes a simple but good script.
Still, I’m happy for his success and maybe there is a chance the sequel turns out better, if Stallone concentrates on writing a solid script first and not making shit up while he’s shooting, which seems to have been the case with The Expendables.
It’s a very small chance, but hey, you have to have hope, right?
I think the sequel should be set in the “Union of Myanmar” (aka Burma).
