This shocking news that he needs aggressive treatment for a recurrence of cancer was made public today by Starz cable network and the Spartacus: Blood and Sand star himself, Andy Whitfield. He was first diagnosed with treatable Stage 1 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in early March. But recently the actor had been in remission and training hard for Season 2. He even attended the Spartacus panel at Comic-Con where he said he felt “better than ever”. His first diagnosis put production on hold for the next season while he underwent treatment. He was given a clean bill of health in May. To bridge the two seasons of Spartacus, Starz greenlighted the prequel Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, which is now filming in New Zealand and will premiere in January as planned. However, the future of the mothership series is unclear. Production on the second season was supposed to start soon.
Here is the network’s statement:
Andy Whitfield, star of Starz’s “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” has been advised by his doctors to immediately resume aggressive treatment for a recurrence of cancer, as a result of which he will not be returning for the series’ second season, which was tentatively set to air in September 2011.
“It’s with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as Spartacus and all the wonderful people involved. It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey. Thank you sincerely for the support so far,” said Whitfield.
“Our hearts and prayers are with Andy and his family during this difficult time,” said Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht. “Andy is not only an incredible actor whose portrayal of Spartacus made an indelible impression on Starz audiences, he is also an amazing human being whose courage, strength, and grace in the face of adversity have inspired all of us.”
No decisions have yet been made about the future of the series. “Right now, we just want to extend our concern and support to Andy and his family,” said Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director, Starz Media. “We will address our programming plans at some later date.”
Starz still plans to air the prequel to Spartacus: Blood and Sand in January 2011. Entitled Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, it focuses on the House of Batiatus before Spartacus arrives in Capua and stars returning cast members John Hannah, Lucy Lawless, Peter Mensah and Manu Bennett, along with newcomer Dustin Clare.

Damn, this is awful. He was great to watch. I pray he makes a complete recovery and goes on to have an exceptional career, but I really hope they find a way to continue the series. It got better and better with every episode.
you are right that with each episode it got better and better. I hope he is fully healed and not because of a sitcom. Do you surpose the could use someone like Gerold Butler or Jason from (Transporter the movie)or Russel Crow. Because you will need someone who can carry out the image.
that what is the important is not watching spartacus, Andy may give up spartacus, it is not so important, after full healing he may turn to white scene. I know Andy with Gabriel, after watching that film, i thought Andy was always with me. But this is unimportant also. Andy’s stopping spartacus don’t mean he won’t return to the white scene. When spartacus die Andy don’t die. Andy is not spartacus or other character exactly he acted.
wow did read this before you posted it???? go back to school….
Did it ever occur to any of you that the person that wrote that might be deaf and writes the best they can? Show a little patience!
how would being deaf prevent him from typing correctly?
sheila go back to school deaf rlly. anyways gods of the arena also kick ass, i like gannicus
Did *****you***** read this
Being deaf is deff possible! People may not understand but sign language is a language in itself and a lot of words that we use for fillers in conversations or what we are used to using are not used in sign language. So, just wanted to point it out that it could be a good possibility.
You should repost this comment in youtube LoL!
What the hell does all of this mean?
lol wut.
I know this type of grammar. Must be Indian, Bangladesh or Sri Lankan. I know ‘coz most of my colleagues are here in Dubai.
R.I.P TO ANDY WHITFIELD HE DIED LAST WEEK SUNDAY ON THE 11TH. I WAS REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO HIM PLAYING SPARTACUS AGAIN.
I really got addicted to watching Spartacus on Stars! I really enjoy watching Andy, play the part! I thought that he was a great actor. And I was looking forward to the next season. When it started I thought what the heck, were’s Andy? I missed his acting? Till I did some some research on the internet! MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY….RIP Andy!!
**Suppose** **Gerard Butler** **Jason Statham** But i agree
Sam Worthington would be awesome
Michael Graziadei from the young and the restless looks almost exactly like him.. that could be an idea
I totally agree! I thought it was Michael Graziadei when I first started watching the first season of Spartacus LOL. My wife used to watch Young and the Restless.
sorry for what you and your family are going through. also i agree he really cant be replaced but will be, but michael graz. would be a terrible replacement, a actor from a soap opera come on this is to good of a series from a terrible love story show to replace an amazing actor. probably the best replacement would be sam worthington, looks similar enough all he would have to do is get a little more muscle on him. gerard butler and jason statham would also be decent replacements. HOPEFULLY HE GETS BETTER AND CAN CONTINUE ON WITH LIFE AND HIS ROLE AS SPARTACUS!!!
you’ve to be joking.he STINKS and is a hambone in a SOAP OPERA!!you’d put him in a classic like SPARTACUS just because he has a square jaw???
On a purely looks basis I agree he does resemble Andy Whitfield very closely…they look like siblings for sure.
I would like to know why director Stephen De Knight and the other decision makers didn’t consider him in the recasting process.
Surely this guy must have been considered, on the basis of being so similar looking and being a fairly known actor casting director type folk must have known this and flagged this for their attention.
Not that I have never seen him act or heard his voice, thus perhaps he was deemed suitable on one of these grounds…?
If he had been a big shot actor then one explanation might have been he wasn’t available due to existing contract commitments. They waited ages to get the new guy ready and trained up, so they could have done the same for Graziadei
Its not as if they didn’t seek to cast someone with some resemblance of Andy, its just a shame that Liam isn’t very convincing as Spartacus.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who also looks more like Andy than Liam does would have been just amazing also but is as we know kept very busy employed at Game of Thrones.
I even think Wentworth Miller, despite what some detractors say would have been a good casting. At time of re-casting he was already an established cult hero and despite looking nothing like Andy he could have been a good replacement as he is a good actor with expressive eyes that summarise all the pain Spartacus has been through in the preceding series….
In a poetic way it would have been quite apt as Andys’ life has ended up following the fiction of Prison Break where after escaping from a prison he ends up dying young… yes in some respects it would have been quite apt.
Andy will not and CAN NOT be replaced.
I’m so sad andy can’t play spartacus anymore,i totally agree with u!!!this guy can’t be replaced….I’ve become a big fan!what a tragedy
(
But he has been.
Instead of such thoughts why not keep yours with those who need them.
He does look exactly like him, but I don’t know if he could pull it off. Maybe with a personal trainer and spray tan??
I thought that too. I watch Y&R and just watched Spartacus for the first time on DVD last week, which, by the way, I loved. I watched the whole series in 2 days. The minute I saw Andy, I thought “Wow, he looks just like a slightly older, more buff version of Michael Graziadei.” The resemblence is uncanny. You put their headshots side by side (where Michael has facial hair) and they could be twins. If they were to do another prequel type show, then with the right trainer, Michael could play a younger Spartacus in his early encounters with the Romans and other enemies.
awesome idea! Thats who I thought it was at first
I don’t see either Jason Statham or Russel Crowe as Spartacus. Gerard Butler would be a great fill but I doubt he would step down from big screen movies to take a part like this, especially since it requires gratuitous nudity and sex. Same with the other 2 stars mentioned above.
All of those actors are too old, getting gray. I hope there may be a younger actor with the skills to take on this series, if Whitfield cannot do it.
wow whoever made this comment is a true moron. This is a Starz TV show not a movie. Why would they use actors that star in movies that everyone on the earth knows to come play in a tv show on the Starz network, while trying to replace a character we already have engraved in our minds. S T U P I D. They will get an unknown that has the acting chops to pull it off. Think before you type next time dumb donna
I agree, they cannot use a main steam actor, they need an unknown who can act and pull us in as Andy did.
I completely AGREE! Though Andy Whitfield was amazing as Spartacus, Gerard Butler would be an amazing Replacement! They look very similar and have the same type of “edge”
Gerard Butler did fine and dandy as a Spartan in 300 – he would fit well in this show ONLY UNTIL Andy could come back. Andy and his family need to focus on his healing so that he can come back stronger.
It is truly a disappointment Andy Whitfield will not be returning. I’m not sure there could be ANY acceptable replacement but Gerard Butler is the best option to fill those shoes. I do pray for a rapid and complete recovery for him.
No need to recast; the show is about gladiators, and last season Spartacus broke free. Could now still focus on a new gladiator and the hunt for Spartacus. I’d cast Tahmoh Penikett from Battlestar or Neil Jackson from Blade and Quantum of Solace, as a new fighter in a house getting inspiration from Spartacus’ escape. That would allow Andy to come back for Season 3 depending on how he’s feeling.
the wholw point of the story is the escape of spatucus and the slave army he puts together! you cant just stop the entire point of the show to start with some new lame gladiator. the story is of spartucus the escaped slave!!
I heard the HE*L outta that!!!
Exactly, they’re trying to retell the story of Spartacus, the whole point is that Crixus, Aenameous and Gannicus become generals in his army later on. That’s why the series is called “Spartacus”, not “Gladiators”.
Read up on your history people, Ceasar is not just a salad dressing lol
nice
No that’s a plan!!!!! One of the few TV programs that showed Roman life like it was. Will be in prayer for this most talented actor and his family.
The whole point of season one was the rise of a slave revolt. To forget the entire purpose of the story would be a shame. While it is true a story could could be told from another gladiator, The name Spartacus would be a bit stupid for the show. Perhaps just rename it Blood and Sand. Another actor would have to pick up where Andy left off in order for it to be named Spartacus. I have no idea who could fill his shoes because he made the part. Perhaps in honor of the man, The show should just be cancelled. The cast is incredible, the storyline is as good. I hate for it to end. I wish all the best for Andy and I pray he rises victorious over this cancer. Get well soon Andy.
My thoughts and prays go out to Andy and his family! He will be truly missed this coming season:(
I agree!
To me there will be no other Spartacus but Andy. It’s just not the same. I can still watch him over and over on my DVR. I’ll miss him!
I love Andy, I became a fan of the series and was so looking forward to the new season. I wish Andy a full recovery; no one can fill his shoes on the series, but I think Sam Worthington (Clash of the Titans 2010) would be an excellent choice ;if they were to recast. SHOUT OUT To Andy Whitfield!! Dude you are so Awesome please get Well soon LOVE YA!!!!
It’s obvious Starz has a huge dilemma on their hands with this very sad news, but let’s keep things in it’s proper perspective. Stage 1 NHL isn’t a death sentence and certainly treatable. It’s very possible Starz will put Season 2 on hold until Jan-Mar 2012 at least that will give Andy Whitfield some time to get well and determine his long term prognosis which ultimately is most important at this point especially if they’re going to build the show around him in the part. Replacing Andy is a strong possibility, but they will have to find an incredible actor to fill his shoes. Andy made that part his own and will truly be missed if he doesn’t return.
I did not know who Andy was until Spartacus! He is a wonderful actor. He and his family are in my prayers!!!!! I look forward to seeing a full recovery. GET WELL SOON HANDSOME ANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you all the way. I told my sister the samething if the role was every recast.
No Andy, no Spartacus. Nuff said.
I fell in LOVE with Andy in Spartacus, and was greatly disapointed when I realized he would not be in Gods Of The Arena. He is an exceptional actor, and a beautiful human being. He was awesome to watch, not to mention to look at! I have been watching the Gods of the arena, but just not that into it with out you Andy. But most importantly I wish him the Best of health on a total recovery! Hope to see you again in the future. My HEART & LOVE go out to you and yours. Once again MUCH, MUCH LOVE! Stay Strong and Healthy! A True Gladiator. NO ONE CAN REPLACE HIM! I simply ADORE you.xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxoxo <3 <3 God Bless You Andy & Your Family
I agree Sam Worthington look’s like andy as well. But the store of Spartacus will be no fun if there is too different people playing him. Good luck andy.
AMEN, Andy made this real and i pray for full recovery, he did an amazing job, i got addicted to the series, can’t wait to see more. God Bless Andy, you are an amazing man and actor.
Tasha
I loved the series and love and and dont think anybody can fill he shoes. I hope he has a great recovery.
Well what they need to do is wait until Andy is completely healthy and then start filming again. I just cant picture watching Spartacus with somebody else playing the roll. Andy made this show. I mean hell even watching the prequel is weird without Andy…get better Andy we”ll be praying.
Of all the posts I have read, I have to agree with yours 100%. Spartacus wont be the same without Andy and I would find it insulting on some levels to continue the show even in the event of his death. Cancer is serious and we all hope he’ll survive but the sad truth is this will be a battle for his life, for the rest of his life. My thoughts are with him and his family. Not whether the show will continue or not….
I totally agree. It will not be Spartacus without Andy Whitfield. I think they should leave the show as it ended for Season one and call it the Series Finale. It is about gladiators and they go to Rome for revenge. End of Story. Get well Andy. Hope to see you around doing some other movies or shows. Good luck and God Bless you.
Your comment made me sad,to the point of tears.Sometimes negative truth is best unspoken.Andy Whitfield is a GLADIATOR and he will KILL this cancer.Andy will be AIM with his TREATMENT and all his MILLIONS of FANS prayers as his SWORDS…He will KILL IT ALL!!!!!
I love this character and I really don’t think anyone else could do justice to the part. Andy drew us into his world. When he smiled, we smiled. When he bled, we bled. But as we all know that sooner or later everything we know and love can;t stay with us forever. The show must go on. Think about it. If an NFL player dies, do they disband the team? No. They pull another player off the bench. That’s why there are legends. I wish Andy and his family with blessed health and happiness. We all hope & pray that he returns. If not to this role or another. Andy & Spartacus are individuals. Long live Andy!!
Very well said,Andy is a great Spartacus and he made that show his own. It is not the same in season 2 but it is still a good show and we can hope and pray he gets better to return for some of the season in the future. I just hope it can continue to be this great show that it was with Whitfield in it. I most importantly pray he has a full recovery and all the time he wants to have with his family.
I love Sparticus Whitfield, oops i mean Andy
but to end the series just because hes not in it would make me even more sad give this new guy a chance and hopefully he will grow on all of us as well
I don’t think it should be cancelled at all. Sure Andy did make the part and he will be missed dearly as Spartacus, but there are so many talented people out there that could do the part justice. If Andy had never been picked to play Spartacus and some other person was you would say the same thing about them, that they couldn’t be replaced. It is very unfortunate that he got ill after such an amazing performance as Spartacus but the series will live with a new Spartacus; on and so will Andy
Get well soon!
it’s been named Spartacu: Vengence
EXCELLENT IDEA! I love it, you couldn’t be more coorect! Play it off till Season”3″ That way Andy, God Willing, will be back to his best. I think it wouldn even make to a better show to be honest. Having another or more Gladiators but still the story based on Sparticus` excape. Brilliant Idea!
I totally agree, YOU ARE BRILLIANT..
you know I hope they see your comment because I honestly doubt there is no one who will bring out the character of Spartacus like Andy Whitfield. He is PERFECT in EVERY WAY! I don’t think it will be the same if they do.
That is a terrible idea. you can’t go around changing a thousand year old story.
I like this version much better. Also the main story should stick to this lotus because the real story goes around spartacus, crixus and few others.
i was really shocked to here this awful news. my heart goes out to andy and his family. i hope he makes a speedy and full recovery. great man ,great actor .x
Very dissapointing,God speed to a great actor. You’ll be in our prays……..
That is really to bad…Prayers to him and his family. I have a hard time finding shows that my husband will watch! He loved this show and Andy Whitfield. Hope they can find a way to keep it going. We hope that Andy will be ok!!
This news is very troubling for fans of Mr. Whitfield. He certainly has claimed the role of Spartacus as his own. The first series was wonderful, and it did indeed capture the essence of life in the Roman Empire. The idea to create a prequel came as a necessity, and I am sure it will be as entertaining as “Blood and Sand.” Most importantly, I pray for a complete recovery for Mr. Whitfield (as I do for all cancer patients.) His performance in “Blood and Sand” was very, very good. I do indeed hope that Mr. Whitfield is able to return to filming soon, and that we will soon see him leading his rebels over the Italian countryside.
I’m really disappointed and sad about the news. I pray to God Andy will recover and grace our TVs again. God Bless him!
Don’t recast! We await Andy’s return to the arena and cheer he and his family on with our prayers for a speedy recovery.
For a backup, they should put Gerard Butler! he would make a perfect duplicate for Andy whitfield but he will still be missed.
I heard he had Non-Hodgekins Lymphoma, and so do I.
I have advanced stage IIIB, and had 22 rounds of chemo over the last 8 years, so dont give up… you will get into remission.
Dont give up faith and keep going, and it is very difficult, I know, but there are new treatments every day for this type of cancer and those advances have kept me alive for 8 years… I also developed 2 other types of cancer after that, and am still here ……..
Good Luck Andy
Maggie – I’m aware of several cases of non-Hodgkins lymphoma where the victims’ homes or places of work were possibly subject to environmental contamination, such as mould/mycotoxins. While it’s certainly quite possible to move from one contaminated residence to another, maybe think about any holidays or times away from home/office where you have felt better? This might be the cause of your ongoing illness. Mould sufferers are typically deficient in glutathione, so maybe a supplement, and perhaps just some liquid zeolite for general wellbeing too.
I hope everything goes well for Andy Whitfield and his family, I wish him the best and hope to a healthy recovery. I will be praying for him.
The show was exceptionally well done and i take my hat to all those that may it happen. I was glued to the television everytime it was on. Thank you STARZ
STOP THE SERIES TILL HE RECOVERS, HOW EVER LONG IT TAKES, OTHER WISE…SPARTICAS WILL BE NO WAY NEAR AS GOOD, I PROBLY WOULD ONLY WATCH IT FOR CRIXUX, SERIUOSLY CANT THEY WAIT?!!!
I AGREE WE’VE WAITED THIS LONG, WE CAN WAIT A BIT LONGER. LETS NOT GIVE UP ON HIM. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH ANDY AND HIS FAMILY.
I cannot agree with you more. I will pray for him, not for the show’s fate, but for his family. If he were to recover they can continue, but I think it would be unforgivable to dishonor Andy by replacing him. Andy made Spartacus and no one can replace him. I’d rather it be canceled or delayed for years to have him come back. No one can do him justice.
We just recently watched this amazing series last week. I went to look online for the date of season 2 and found out this terrible news…my heart breaks. I hope Andy has a speedy recovery and pray he stays in high spirits! I don’t think they should recast, it just won’t be the same. They should wait for the real Spartacus to return! God bless u Andy whitfield !
I’m with you…you can’t replace Andy Whitfield – he brought Spaticus to life. Wait it out, and pray for him and his family. It will be worth the wait…Bless you Andy I hope you have a speedy recovery!
Thank you. You are the first human to say let’s pray he will recover. Who cares for some tv series. We are talking about a human’ s life.
May God be with you Andy. I wish you will have the strength to go through it one more time.
I don’t see anyone successfully replacing Andy Whitfield for the part of Spartacus. Expect to see the ratings fall. The audience connected to Whitfields’ charisma and charm. The producers should pull the plug on this series and pursue a different avenue of similar nature. As far as I’m concerned the show is ruined. God speed to Mr. Whitfield, I wish you the best. I won’t be tuning in for season 2.
I’m devastated and so disappointed that Andy Whitfield wont be returning to my favorite show Spartacus i prayed he would get better but if they must recast the main role for Spartacus they should take a look at (Sam Worthington) from Avatar and clash of the titans he would be a close match, looks and all plus hes done a few action roles. Good luck to you Andy LONG LIVE SPARTACUS!
I agree with Sam Worthington being a good choice. I would like to see Andy Witfield come back but his health is more important. The show will never be the same without him. I wish him the best. They should change the point of view of the show and the name.
Sam Worthington could be Andy’s brother – very similar features. He would be an ideal substitute. Having said that, the part is Andy’s and Andy’s alone. He embodied the role and in doing so, made all who aspire to step into his shoes pale by comparison. Andy, I wish you and calm sea and prosperous voyage – may you heal completely and return to enthrall us all with your unparalleled charisma and talent.
Before I read these posts, I made the same comment about Sam Worthington. They may be able to get away with it, but it still will not be the same. We love you Andy. Get well. God Bless
I AM ALSO DEVASTATED! I LOVED ANDY IN BLOOD AND SAND, I PRAY FOR HIS RECOVERY. I THINK STARZ SHOULD REALLY HOLD OFF, CASTING A NEW SPARTACUS WOULD NOT BE WISE, WE ARE ALL SO AMAZED BY ANDY’S PERFORMANCE, NO ONE ELSE COULD FILL HIS SHOES!
NO OTHER ACTOR CAN REPLACE ANDY WHITFIELD.HE HAS A PERSONALITY OF HIS OWN.FORGET THOSE OTHER ACTORS! ALL OF THE ACTORS ON SPARTACUS ARE NOT FAMILIAR THATS WHY THE SHOW IS EXCEPTIONAL.THANKS TO THE WRITERS AND PERSONS WHO CREATED THIS SHOW.GREAT WORK!THE BEST SERIES AND MOVIE I HAVE EVER WATCHED!
My prayers go out to Andy and his family for a full and speedy recovery… nobody else will be the same in the Sparatcus role.. nobody.. I will watch the prequel but hopes that we will see Andy again… wouldn’t be “Spartacus” without him.. just wouldn’t.
It wont be the same without Andy though.
i also am very sadden that andy has a r-eaccurance of that terrible disease .I will keep you in my prays .In my eyes you are our modern day Spartucus.A man who battle this war that you are battling could only be Spartus.as the show go there is no spartucus unless Andy is “SPARTCUS”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My prayers are that Andy has a full and speedy recovery. He is a fantastic actor. I am sure there will be other opportunities for him in the future. I think movies are his next step. The CIA operative, Mitch Rapp character by Vince Flynn would be perfect for the physical acting abilities and the great emotional range he so successfully portrayed in his role as Spartacus.
I wish Andy and his family health, happiness and love in the new year.
Mr. Whitfield I’m sure you have had an overwhelming amount of fans that are so very dissappointed at you not returning along with myself and my husband and will be sorely missed you have protrayed “Spartacus” admirably and we so looked forward every week to watching the show because of your part in this but, I also have to say being in the medical myself, take cae of yourself and your family first and formost and well wishes and prayers go out to you and yours.
I cannot believe that Andy Whitfield will not be returning. I wish him a speedy recovery and my prayers are with him and his family. I will not be able to watch without him being in it!!! He was the whole show!!!!
NO ONE WILL WATCH THE SHOW WITHOUT ANDY WHITFIELD!!!! If the show must be put on hold until his complete recovery…SO BE IT!!! All of the loyal fans will wait, no matter how LONG!! This guy is fighting the battle of his life and Starz is thinking of recasting???????? SHAMEFUL! Let him bask in the glory of bringing such a character to life and enjoy his recognition without talk of recasting…..cmon people…any humanity left in this WORLD?!! Thoughts and prayers to his family
No one could take Andy’s place. The sensitive yet strong protrayal of Spartacus was the balance to the “dark house of Batiatis”. Mr. Whitfield, you will be so very missed in this series, however; more than anything, we pray for your recovery and
wish you God’s speed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your amily. Nobody can replace you. Spartacus will not be the same without you. God Bless!
Get well soon Andy for season 3,no one can take your place, we love u,my prayers are with u and your family.
Andy,
Be very secure in the knowledge that all of us who have seen Spartacus are prayin for you and your family. You will get through this and you will be stronger than ever. Remember you are Sparacus Andy, and you will prevail.
Good Luck,
Frank Fiumano
Hope to see him make a swift recovery, so they can produce season 2! I want to see him kick some a*#, till then I’ll be rewatching Blood and sand
. Best of luck on getting better!
Without Andy, the series will fail to impress…you cannot replace him with anyone..Please wait and see if he can return later. all of us would be willing to wait to have Andy resume the role..Prayers to Andy and his family.
I just found out about Andy’s cancer. I will pray for him and his family during this difficult time. His health and family come before anything else. However, he was a great Spartacus. NO ONE will ever be able to replace him. I loved the series but the series without Andy will not be the same. When, not if he gets well, I hope you will recast him! If you don’t then I hope someone has the sense to cast him in a great movie.
im sad to hear about Andys health problems, i watched every single episode from the first series i love the show. when i heard he wasnt coming back i didnt even want to watch tha second season, but i gave it a chance and i like so far! but Andy WE WANT YOU BACK FOR SEASON 3 SO WE CAN GET BACK 2 THE STORY AS PLANNED, U PLAY A BIG ROLE N THE SITCOM IT WONT BE THA SAME W/O YOU. YOU ARE TRULY MISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im not much of a T.V. person but i fell in love with the spartacus serious both of them and he is a DAMN good actor that captured alot of hearts!!!! I pray all goes well GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND!!
Spartacus is exciting to watch. The cast and history makes the show. Andy Whitfield has now embarked on a life crisis. He will want the show to continue as will his fans. He not only is a good actor, but an individual with soul. Finding his replacement is easy. Look at Andy and you will find an answer.
Spartacaus is an exciting show, my husband and I have came to love this show and enjoy how it always leaves us at the edge of our seats never knowing whats going to hold for the next episode! I pray that Andy Whitfield will overcome his cancer, and persue his carrer he is an incrediable actor who really fulfills the role of playing Spartacus, we pray he will soon come back appearing on Spartacus and hope the future will continue more sequels to Spartacus!
I love this guy. When I first laid eyes upon him in Spartacus Blood and Sand, I feel in love. I love everything about his character, and he as a man is very attractive. I’m so sorry this had to happen to him. I will pray for him, and hope he recovers. Spartacus wont be the same without you my friend.
god bless you andy whitfeild. im praying 4 your health to return. i hope you remain spartucas. but more important i hope you beat this cancer.dont let them operate on you until you get many opionions.my father just had a lump in his 1 lung the biopsy showed no cancer. but they operated on him anyways. he died after 1 month of horrible pain then my dad died on christmas night. im not trying to make you worry. just trust your own body and jesus to heal you. have faith in god. good luck i cant wait 4 your return. i never thought anyone could be as good as kirk douglas.
My Healing thoughts go out to you Andy Get well and stay strong
Never mind the acting just take care of yourself
x
I feel that Spartacus was not only a wonderful new and refreshing show for every week to absolutely have to be home to watch! But, it was the story line of the characters that was also magnificent. You never knew what was coming next no matter how hard you tried to figure it out, I was talking about it with my girlfriends and my daughter in college on the phone ! It was the hot topic of the week, and then when Gannicus came on board we knew he either died or went somewhere, but where ? We tried to write the end to that the entire pre-quel! We all had such a fantastic time! For Andy to be ill again breaks my heart. I am very sick, with CKD and 4 auto-immune diseases. It is tough.I have been ill, 11 years. He wants this so bad, you can see it in his eyes. I wish this did not happen to such a good man. How sad. Andy , you have my prayers every single day ! Get better, there will be tons of roles for you !
Andy Whitfield and family… I send out my prayers to you and hope you get well. You are an incredible actor and are sorely missed. My heart dropped to the bottom of my soul, after reading about your sistuation. Godspeed. I love you and are praying for you every minute… GET WELL SOON….. Your true fan.. Lola Oliver
What! Am just getting to learn about this now.. am so not updated….I was really waiting for the season 2…. My heartfelt sympathy for Andy and family. God will be your strenght.

CRAP!!!!!I WAS SO LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING ANDY AGIAN..thou i understand life has problems .I wish Andy the best .Hope to see u in more films soon your such a treat to the eye =)
AWFUL news. Best wishes to Andy for a speedy return to remission…don’t know if the series can continue but that takes a backseat towards Andy regaining his health.
Agreed. As enjoyable as Andy is, and no doubt he is one lovely man, I think everyone needs to remember that right now he couldn’t care less about his looks, his career, any of it. His health and his life, family, etc. are the critical factors. Cancer doesn’t even skip the beautiful people. Love the character he portrayed (and was looking forward to seeing him in movies), but wish the man blessings, healing and strength. He’ll be just as lovely when he’s made a full recovery, and I look forward to seeing him in the future.
Tragic. Hope he makes a full recovery.
God Speed, Andy Whitfield, you have given us an incredible performance and we look forward to many more.
I hope he makes a full recovery and lives a full, complete life. A good actor and a great human being. I wish him and his family the best
Tragic news. I saw him in San Diego at the Comic Con and he looked terrific. God Speed Andy, stay strong and keep positive.
This was totally a breakout role for him. Amazing discovery, great performer, the world will be a better place when he recovers
Thoughts and prayers are with you Andy for a safe and speedy recovery. We love ya.
My very close friend has been battling a similar disease for the past year and is on the mend….my very best wishes for your total recovery Andy…. state of mind is half the battle…stay strong…u have a lot of people pulling for ya!!!
That is good news about your friend, not enough info is out there about this disease. Symptoms can mimic flu or other benign causes and go without being diagnosed.
Omgi cannot believe this i was so happy about his recovery and season 2, my prayers go with you andy
Whoa, didn’t see that coming. I hope he makes a speedy recovery. I’m now more curious on how the next season will be written? He’ll take the lead?
So sorry to hear this! Andy, our prayers are once again with you. Be well.
I’m so sad Andy is the star of this show and I’m deeply sadly over this. I hope that he will be alright soon and that he get rid of the cancer.
So sorry to hear, the series will not be the same without you. Our thoughts are with you. Get well soon. x
I agree with you. The show will not be the same without Andy. He had that special “it” factor that made the show addictive. The cast was great; however, without Andy it will not be the same. The ending of season 1 had me eager for season 2. The writers did an excellent job with the storyline. I will keep Andy and his family in my prayers.
Thoughts and prayers for Andy and his family.
How very sad… what a terrific actor and the character he was playing was made for him. We LOVED the series… it was wonderful…
I pray for Andy’s recovery and needed faith during this time in his life.
My heart goes out to Andy and his family! I know that he made such an impact to STARZ! and fans, that a lot of prayers will be going out to him. I will pray for a speedy recovery, and pray that will will yet again witness the “Slayer of Theoccoles” and “The Bringer of Rain”. <3
Best wishes to Andy and his family. Hope his spirit continues to be so strong.
Andy, may you have the strength of Jupiter in your fight. It’s a great show with wonderful writers and a great cast, esp Andy Whitfield. Here’s wishing you a speedy recovery!
This is horrible news. I hope he beats this and can go on to a great career. As for the series? It became must watch for me, because of the way he grew into the role as it progressed. It ended in a way that could be a series finale. We all know that Spartacus goes on to lead a slave revolt. We just saw how it all began. Leave it be until he is healthy enough to continue. If he can’t continue then let the prequel finish the story.
We are talking about the MAIN character of the show. It would be like replacing Tony Soprano after the first season. You just can’t do it. If it takes another year, wait it out. Hell, The Soprano’s went almost 2 years between seasons. Spartacus can survive that if they are smart about it. But, if it is obvious Andy just won’t be able to ever do the role, then let it pass off into the sunset.
I agree whole-heartedly with you. I can’t even imagine anyone taking over the lead role. Andy gave life to the role he played and left a lasting impression. I hope Andy makes a full recovery and display his exceptional talent in future roles.
Spartacus without Andy Whitfield is like toast without butter……just isn’t the same…
Every “Spartacus”follower is surely rooting for you to make a speedy&full recovery. You CAN & you WILL beat this “blip” on your life’s landscape.Wish I could give you a MASSIVE hug & make it all go away, but I’m sure family&friends will do just that!!
Stay strong Andy. You can beat this. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Prayers for Andy – and thoughts/concerns with entire Spartacus production team. Looking forward to better news for all in future.
Wow, I didn’t expect that. My prayers and thoughts are with Andy and his family. Hopefully we’ll be reading about his return to the series in a future post.
