In notable recent TV castings, Rachel Nichols has joined CBS’ Criminal Minds as a recurring, Izabella Miko has boarded NBC’s The Cape and Cartoon Network has assembled the cast of its live-action comedy pilot KROG.
Rachel Nichols (Star Trek) has been tapped for an arc on Criminal Minds later this season. Criminal Minds had been planning to add a new female regular cast member in the wake of the A.J. Cook’s departure. I hear the character Alias alumna Nichols will play, FBI cadet Ashley Seager, was originally envisioned as a new regular but that has changed, and Nichols will now appear in 3 episodes. Seager is invited by Agent Hotch (Thomas Gibson) to consult on a case after learning her family history will bring a unique insight into the mind of a serial killer.
Izabella Miko (Coyote Ugly) is set for a five-episode arc on midseason drama The Cape, which stars David Lyons as a cop framed for a crime who becomes a masked hero. Miko, who guest starred in the pilot, plays a skilled and alluring circus performer. She is repped by Fortitude and Affirmative Entertainment.
KROG, created by Mark Rivers, centers on KROG, an awesome monster costume band sent from Middle Earth who loved by their fans but in fact, they are indeed monsters sent to conquer mankind. Cast in the pilot are James Adomian (repped by ICM), Josh Fadem (Paradigm), Will Harris (Stone Manners Salners), Zooey Hall, Julian Works and Justin Castor.

“an awesome monster costume band sent from Middle Earth who loved by their fans but in fact, they are indeed monsters sent to conquer mankind.”
It sounds so idiotic I already want to have a look at it. Really.
I was a big fan of 3rd Rock from the Sun.
I’m glad they understand that a rookie has no place in the BAU (the case for Reid was made early on, and he wasn’t, strictly speaking, a rookie when he joined the unit). Now why have they destroyed one of the rare gender-balanced casts on TV? I really hope they understand what they’ve lost by getting rid of Prentiss and JJ.
Thank goodness they changed their mind about this character on Criminal Minds. I don’t have anything against the actress (don’t even recognize her) and I know, sadly, they’ll have to find someone to do JJ’s job. But, just like Fabrisse, I don’t like the idea of them considering a cadet. I just hope they don’t decide to do the three episode arc and then decide the character is so popular that they do wind up bringing her back full time. Not unless they change the “cadet” thing and make her an actual FBI agent. Then, I could give her – or anyone else- a fair assessment as to whether I’ll like them or not. Rather than being brought short by something ridiculous.
Can’t say the news about Rachel Nichols makes me happy. Quite the opposite.
The cast of Criminal Minds is messed up with enough as it is, thanks to CBS. I don’t want to see a recurring character playing an important role on the show, even if it’s temporary.
I’m dreading what it can mean for the actual cast and I hope that she won’t become a love interest for anyone on the team.
I would hate to see that.
The only way I’d accept the love interest (which I’m not thrilled with in any case) is if she never joins the team. She does her three episodes, and then at best becomes a recurring character. Like Nicholas Brendon’s Kevin Lynch. Given a choice, I’d say no romance, but if it happened, absolutely no one on the team.
That’s one thing I worry about with whoever does get cast full time. That after 5 seasons of proving that shows can be good and people will watch without any romance among the main characters, they’ll feel the need to add something like that in. I mean, I hope, that just because they’re losing important cast members, it doesn’t mean that they’ll suddenly turn stupid as far as what they write in later episodes. Whoever they bring in, I hope it’ll be in general like Prentiss – coming in as an agent and just an agent, not an agent in name, whose real purpose is to be a love bunny of one of the guys.
I understand your point of view, but I can’t accept that character as a love interest. I’m quite sure that if they were going to hook her up with someone on the show they would hook her up with Reid.
And that would be a huge mistake in my opinion.
This character is still a FBI trainee, Reid is a full fledged federal agent, seeing them hook up would really bother me.
Reid deserves a better storyline and deserves more respect from the writers. And I can only picture Reid with someone older than him.
I really hope that the writers won’t make this mistake. I have my limits and with everything else going on with the show, it wouldn’t take much to make me stop watching. If they hook Ashley and Reid up, I might have reached my limits.
Anyone here ever heard of GWAR??
Dave Brockie should contact his lawyer immediately.
Geez – the character Nichols is playing on Criminal Minds, sounds like a clone of the character she played on a series called “The Inside” on FOX in 2005.
“A rookie FBI agent is recruited as the new violent crimes task force profiler to solve murder cases.” She also had a “unique understanding” of criminals.
I just don’t get what Ed Bennero and CBS are thinking with this whole JJ and Prentiss mess. Cook is out after tonight and Brewster is out after this season. So is it going to be just the guys and Garcia from here on out? Plus, who the heck is going to be the media liason who had JJ’s job? Are they going to bring back Meta Golding, who filled in for AJ during her maternity leave?
Rachel Nichols would be one of the few people I would be okay with joining the cast of Criminal Minds. The Inside was a great show, and the similarities between her character on that and on CriMi prove that she can pull it off (rather than discredit her). I don’t care what others think, I’m hoping she will still be considered as a possible regular.
Hopefully she will be only in CM for 3 episodes and no more. There’s no place for some cadet on the BAU team and I definitely hope she’s not there to be some love interest. That will be the moment I leave the show, if I wanted to watch boring relationship storylines I’d be watching the soaps.
Completely seconded ! I don’t want to see her as a love interest either (and certainly not for Reid !).
I will simply stop watching the show if they draw that line.
I thought that Criminal Minds was getting rid of JJ and Prentice because of budget cuts??? How can they now justify bringing in another female character??? Too sad to see JJ go. I like A.J. Cook in the role.
I officially hate the president and CEO of CBS, and they can kiss my butt! They are making the worst mistake of their life by letting A.J. and Paget go! I hope that the ratings on every other show goes down because of their stupid mistake…..I will greatly miss my cm girls!!!!
i dont like character changes. it usually means the begining of the end.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” Why ae akk the exceptional shows ‘fixed’ and then vanish forever when they don’t fly? Like Shark, the Senator, The Commander-in-Chief, 24……etc.?
WELL…I WOULDNT MIND AT ALL ACTUALLY I WULD LOVE TO SEE THATA COUPLE. it wouldnt be a bad idea
I’m getting tired of the CRIMINAL MINDS fan continuing to gripe about the whole AJ Cook situation – how long will we have to hear them go on and on? Move on people, it’s only a show. (at least she’ll be getting nice residual checks from Syndication and DVD sales for years.)
It’s not like it was the only CBS show hit with changes due to budget or creative directions this season or in the last two or three.(Remember Lauren Holly’s Director Shepard being killed off on NCIS? A strong female character – didn’t hear much fuss about that did we?)
Herb Finn – No one cared about Shepard on NCIS, because that character had already been “assasinated” long before she was killed off.
Which is not to say that you don’t have a point generally about the female characters on NCIS, or CBS.
That is bull. Lauren Holly wanted to leave NCIS. She didn’t want to continue after season 5 so they killed her off just like they did to Sasha Alexander, who left on her own also. To compare someone getting fired from a show because of “budget cuts” to someone voluntary leaving a show is bull. They took AJ off and cut Paget’s eps in half because they needed money for the new spin-off. They broke up a family of people who have gotten along for 6 years to make room for a cross over. It’s bull and that is what most of the fans are upset about. It was a sexist thing to do also, which I am upset about. What is so different from Morgan, Reid, Rossi from Prentiss or JJ. Why did it have to be the two female agents, instead of a male and a female. And now they are bringing in a mini JJ. Like that isn’t a slap in the face to AJ.
The spinoff and the original do not share a pool of money. They take place in the same universe, yes. But they are ultimately funded separately.
I have to say I am very disappointed in the decision to drop/replace JJ. Women are looking for a strong female in a role that’s not just another pretty face but someone who has talent and the ability to be believable. I do like the other characters but the JJ character fit – it brought everyone together. I hope the other actors on the show don’t feel job security – god knows if your on this show, its just a matter of time! I guess money does talk – I guess I’ll go back to CSI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Milo,You are right CBS College is not on the basic expanded cable package. Its a regular TV channel, though, not an online deal. Im not in Albuquerque for the game tonight, so I also will be finding a sports bar with a satellite dish. Have fun.
