UPDATE: I’m told that the deal being finalized will be worth $1.5 million against more than $3 million, easily making it one of the biggest spec deals of the year.
EXCLUSIVE: I’m told that Universal Pictures is putting the finishing touches on a multi-million dollar deal for Snow White and the Huntsman, a revisionist take on the fairy tale scripted by Evan Daugherty and produced by Alice in Wonderland‘s Joe Roth. Attached to direct is Rupert Sanders, who has been on a short list for many plum studio jobs including The Hunger Games and All You Need Is Kill, based on his reel of stylishly-directed commercials that include Microsoft’s Halo.
Not sure how big the deal is, but I’ve heard it’s one of the biggest so far this year and that Sony, Paramount, Fox, New Regency and Summit were all over it. I’ll do a proper write-up once it’s done. CAA and UTA negotiated the deal together. CAA reps Sanders and UTA and FilmEngine rep the writer.
The script was one of two major properties dropped on the town. The other, the Timur Bekmambetov-directed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, is being auctioned by WME with Tim Burton producing with Bekmambetov and Jim Lemley.

And the downward spiral into the rabbit hole continues…
Sounds intriguing.
Yeah that sounds totally worth it.
if it’s anything like his draft of Grayskull, I guarantee a suckfest.
God, I hope it’s good but it sounds awful.
So Uni’s not pleading poverty today. Gee.
Best wishes for Rupert Sanders breaking into film, however, it would be foolish to chance a movie with the potential of Halo on a rookie. Halo has the potential to pull Dark Knight, Avatar numbers if done right with the right experienced director.
@Altered: he directed the commercial for Halo, they’re not talking about him doing the feature version of the game.
Pay attention!
seriously? the worst idea ever.
this sounds like a movie for no one.
not kids, not teens not adults
not girls, not guys.
just pre-awareness,
prince of persia anyone
the script better be amazing or lunacy
Hey! How about an exciting sea-faring adventure starring the plucky princess? It can be titled “Snow White and the Seven Wharves.” Maybe a religious retake on the fairy tale, “Snow White and the Seven Loaves”? Oooooo-kay… a hip re-telling in which Snow finds herself magically transported to modern day Manhattan and has to resort to stripping, “Snow White and the Seven Scarves”?
Best comment ever. Epic win. So well done.
Jake Wagner repped this? That dude is on fire lately.
Wagner is killing it.
What other stuff has Wagner sold that you consider him to be “on fire?”
He set up Daugherty’s “Shrapnel” last week with a well known director attached, and two A-listers circling for leads. Plus he’s attached to produce another action spec, “Priority Run.” which is being packaged and financed right now. Not only that, he has several specs in play, some with more traction than others, but he’s probably the hottest lit manager in town right now.
Answer your question?
pinkberry….?….the musical….?…..in 3D?
Jake Wagner is the man right now.
Sounds like a porno
will we finally get to see the evil queen dancing to her death in red hot iron shoes, like in the original story??
