After another successful summer of original scripted programming, USA Network has made more renewals: sophomore series Royal Pains and White Collar for a third season and veteran Psych for a sixth season. The Royal Pains‘ order is said to be for 18 episodes, while I hear Psych and White Collar are being picked up for 16 episodes each. The decision was made while the 3 series are still in production on their current seasons (White Collar wraps this week, while Royal Pains and Psych are filming their last couple of episodes) to give producers the opportunity to lock in key crew members. With the pickups, which follow similar renewals for Burn Notice and In Plain Sight (both picked up for 2 more seasons) and freshman Covert Affairs as well as a miraculous final season eight-episode pickup for Law & Order: Criminal Intent with original star Vincent D’Onofrio on board, the top basic cable network is bringing back its entire 7-series slate. ”To have such success with our existing series gives us a platform to experiment and push the envelope with our next generation of shows,” said USA’s president of original programming Jeff Wachtel.
Royal Pains, from Universal Cable Prods., was cable’s top summer cable series in adults 25-54 (3.5 million). The Fox TV Studios-produced White Collar averaged 5.5 million total viewers, while UCP’s Psych was the top cable series on Wednesday in adults 18-49 (2.3 million). In a report released today, USA was listed as the most valuable asset of NBC Universal at $11.7 billion, while the value of broadcast sibling NBC was listed as a negative $600 million.

Great news. Royal Pains definitely deserves it. Mark Feuerstein is the bomb!
While not rocket science, they are fun, breezy well made shows. Matt Bomer in “White Collar” certainly has broken out well.
Thank you USA Network.. These shows are smartly written, well acted and fun to watch.
So thrilled to see they will all be back!!!I really got hooked on these shows this summer and am going through withdrawals now. Thanks USA Network!
Really good news.
White Collar is a fabulous show. Matt and Tim have the best partnership on screen at the moment. So glad they renewed it! This made my day.
nice to see all the shows including royal pains get a pick up for u.s.a networks programing is one network that has good programing and knows that when a show is good to not let it die. and if its new give it a chance like with royal pains and pyche to build a fan base unlike other networks
I am so very, very happy for the cast & crew of White Collar. They truly are a fabulous bunch of people & they definitely deserve to be employed for another year cranking out this wonderfully smart, funny, breezy show.
Having said that, why not a 2-season renewal?? Covert Affairs just got started & it’s greenlighted for 2. White Collar should surely be worth 2 more seasons like Burn Notice.
awesome for the underrated Psych…no better duo than Roday and Dule…thanks USA
Were these renewals for season 3 or season 4? My understanding was that Royal Pains and White Collar had already been picked up for season 3? (or is is just the back 6/9 of season 2 that is airing in January?)
I must be getting old, because when I want to just enjoy an hour of television, these are totally the shows I watch– not the grim, gory procedurals that fill the networks. These shows are the heirs to The Rockford Files or Magnum P.I.
The only “old” in your statement is reference to the Rockford Files, yep that’s OLD school.
The way the break up their seasons, I’m always curious when they shoot their seasons. Were this summer’s episodes filmed last summer? Do they break after the first half in the winter/spring and then shoot the summer stuff later?
They film them all in one big swoop. Psych is filmed from late April to late October or thereabouts.
So glad for White Collar, the best show on TV! Matt Bomer is easily THE breakout star of 2009-2010 and whose star will sky rocket now. WC deserved a two year renewal as it is better than its usa bretheren but since produced by Fox for USA, only one year at a time…but we will take it!!
Burn Notice is produced by Fox as well, and that received a 2 yr renewal, so that’s not the reason White Collar didn’t get 2 yrs. Ratings just not as strong as BN would be my guess.
Agree about Bomer’s talents. Hope after this he gets a really good show that will expose those talents to a wider audience.
Ratings have nothing to do with it. White Collar, airing on Tuesdays @ 9pm, is in the toughest time slot of any of USA’s shows, yet it holds it own very nicely and outperforms any show on the big broadcast networks. Put Burn Notice in it’s slot, and I guarantee you it would get roughly the same ratings. The week after their season finale, Covert Affair’s ratings dropped by quite a large margin, that says a lot about Collar as a lead-in and whether Affairs can stand alone, my guess is it cannot. WC is USA’s “tiffany” show – it’s not going anywhere for quite some time.
Love every one of these shows in various degrees. Thank you, USA Network.
Way to go White Collar! I am so happy, happy, happy
Great news re: Royal Pain& Psych also
absolutely wonderful to see White Collar renewed for season 3.I love the show, the writing, the cast.I really wished they had renewed it for 2 seasons instead of one.
My feelings exactly. Wonderful that White Collar was renewed for Season 3 but would have loved to see a 2 season renewal. I don’t care for Covert Affairs or Burn Notice – too many chases, explosions, and guns.
@DanOregon, I only know about White Collar, which shot all 16 eps of its 2nd season from April through to now (just wrapping), no break to shoot the back half of S2, which will air in Jan/Feb 11.
I guess that works better for everyone, particularly the actors, so that they get a proper 6 mth break in which to do other things. Also presumably makes sense for production costs.
Great shows, great summer faire. Thanks USA for keeping us all out of trouble during the summer.
Yes! Psych got renewed. Thank god, its such a great show. Roday and Hill are awesome!!!!!! Lets hope we get more Mr. Ying eps.
What a wonderful surprise “White Collar” season 3, not surprised it will continue for many more seasons. Brilliant cast, crew, writers best show on tv, well done USA Network for seeing the potential.
White Collar is the best show on any network. Thank you usa!
White Collar will be around as long as Matt Bomer chooses to do it, however, he is wading in new scripts and I’ve heard NBC has major ;ong term plans for this uber-talent!
Jericho would make a real complement to your line up with many millions of proven die hard fans, just ask CBS about the Peanuts they received, over 40 thousand pounds from loving fans who wanted more.
What date will In Plain Sight be back on tv?
Pysch gets renewed! yessss! Been waitin’ almost a year!
