EXCLUSIVE: Emboldened by its summer smash Inception, Warner Bros continues to be aggressive in bringing in “big idea” material. Studio has just acquired Expulsion, a spec script by Gregg Hurwitz. It’s the template for a big science fiction film. After an act of terror destroys Earth, a small band of survivors escape to a planet beyond the solar system. Brad Weston is the producer.
CAA reps the writer, a novelist whose thriller They’re Watching is being developed by David Dobkin and Jeff Kleeman. He was also a consulting producer on the ABC series V. Deal comes as Warner Bros continues to navigate Gravity, the Alfonso Cuaron-directed space movie that has Robert Downey Jr. but is still struggling to lock in the actress who occupies the screen by herself for much of the movie.

The biggest blockbusters with ORIGINAL ideas will come from the sci-fi genre.
This script was a joke. If they think it will be the next Inception they wasted their money. Without serious changes, it is more like the perfect excuse for MST3000 to come back on air.
I wouldn’t be so hasty on the judgement. Hurwitz always produces amazing material. Nothing is ever as it seems.
Love all the books, but a movie by warner or a series by tnt will suck. Im sure george clooneys batman and robin movie looked good on paper….im ready for the disappointment.
Sounds interesting, looking forward to hearing more…
