EXCLUSIVE: A comedy starring Wilmer Valderrama has landed at ABC. American Dad co-executive producers Murray and Judah Miller created the project, a live-action comedy with a musical component. They will write the script and serve as showrunners. Saturday Night Live writer Akiva Schaffer, who directs, co-writes and edits the majority of the late-night sketch show’s digital shorts, developed the untitled comedy with the Miller brothers and is on board to direct the potential pilot. Valderrama, Murray Miller, Judah Miller and Schaffer will all executive produce. 20th Century Fox TV, where Valderrama is under a talent holding deal, is producing the project, which has landed a script commitment plus penalty.
That ’70s Show alum Valderrama has 3 upcoming films: From Prada To Nada, Tom Hanks’ Larry Crowne and the Spike Lee-produced The Girl Is In Trouble. On the feature side, Schaffer has The Adventurer’s Handbook in development at Universal with Jonah Hill and Working Title, and Henchmen at MRC with Bill Hader, which Shawn Levy is producing. Valderrama, the Millers and Schaffer and are repped by UTA. Schaffer is managed by Mosaic.

This will never make it to air.
The Exon Valderrama sets sail! Nothing gets America going like Wilmer musicals. It may fail as a show, but it might jumpstart the economy as everyone flees their home looking for something else to do.
Jealous much? How about a simple congratulations to everyone involved!
not jealous, more like dumbfounded and slightly appalled. do you realize this guys biggest accomplishment hasn’t been his body of work — he was basically doing Balky from Perfect Strangers on That 70′s Show. his biggest accomplishment has been his sexual conquests (whoo hoo, he nailed lindsey lohan while she was still underage without getting arrested. is he really alone in that club?) and then of course his Howard Stern show revelations about it. and yet they keep trying to shove him down our throats. i don’t have a problem with untalented people getting over, it happens in this town every day, but enough already. i have more respect for mike ‘the situation’ sorrentino as an entertainer because he’s actually, what’s the word? oh yeah… entertaining.
STOP HATING ON THE GUY…EVERYONE DESERVES A BREAK AND IF HE ACTUALLY MADE PEOPLE LAUGH ON THAT 70 SHOW …THEN WHO ARE YOU TO CUT HIM SHORT ON REACHING FOR THE STARS…GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO SOAR…AND HOLD YOUR TONGUE FOR A MOMENT…THANK YOU…
Not true He has Produced a Very successful Childrens Program Called Handy Manny…
Agreed. Why the hatred? As you peruse websites talking smack, these guys are actually doing something. You should try it.
How/Why do people think this guy is funny and/or could lead his own show. Very hard fail!
Yes I read this one too. No I will not be texting them.
Wilmer is hyper-talented, assertive and one of the good guys in the business. Congrats to him. Teaming up with comedy creatives like this is a progressive move and let’s see how far ABC will push the envelope. Why anyone would react negatively in talk back to a vague reference of a show’s musical component is pretty shortsighted. The musical components in both SNL and American Dad are fun, smart and prevalent in the creative of both series.
Actually…he is pretty F-ing hilarious and more so than that…brother can dance!! Sing? Dunno. But man can he dance!! Looking forward to it. The rest of you can take the hate elsewhere. Stop being angry at what you are NOT doing yourselves.
Great! Congrats to @WillyVille and all involved.
The Millers are very funny. I’m curious to see what they come up with. Valderrama is a joke. The question is whether or not he’s going to be in on it. If he can laugh at himself and his image, this might work.
Wilmer is a super talented performer. He is also one of the few people in this town that bring with him a huge Latin audience. ABC & Fox are smart enough to recognize that and they will be taking that to the bank. Everything this kid does – works. Handy Manny, anyone?
Huh? What proof do you have of this?
Huge Latin audience?
I heard this pitch and it was weak, but Wilmer will surely kill it. I hear he is producing some stupid cable show about bugs. Realitivity Real ….you might want to find better producers to align with. i mean, REALLY?
The people with negative comments about Wilmer and this show were probably writers for “Lone Star.” Lord knows that they need somewhere to place all of their hate and anguish. Kudos to you Wilmer, I know this show will be a success!!!
I think it sounds interesting. He is talented, and SNL writing is crazy funny! I think it could be a hit. Thank God its not another cop show. i hope it makes it.
