EXCLUSIVE: Nine years after Jerry Bruckheimer TV made a big entrance in reality TV with The Amazing Race, the company is re-teaming with the Race creators for a new reality competition series, this time on ABC. ABC has handed out a six-episode order to Take the Money and Run (form. Catch Me), which Bruckheimer executive produces with Race creators Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri as well as Jonathan Littman and Belfast-based producer Philip Morrow, on whose format the series is based. Jerry Bruckheimer TV and Van Munster’s Profiles TV are producing with Horizon Alternative TV, the alternative division of Warner Horizon.
In the past decade, Bruckheimer TV has been focused primarily on the scripted side, building a brand of solid crime procedurals which will now cross over to the unscripted side with the new series. As the title suggests, Take the Money and Run is a high-stakes reality series that blends the reality brand of Race chief van Munster with the crime-solving brand of Bruckheimer to answer the question: can you commit the perfect crime and get away away with it?
KristieAnne Reed and Mark Dziak co-executive produce Take the Money and Run, whose development spans the old and new ABC regimes. Back in April, the network’s previous president Steve McPherson quietly ordered a pilot for the project. Now, new president Paul Lee has picked it up to series with a six-episode order, including the pilot. Bruckheimer TV already has a relationship with ABC with the 2003 docu series Profiles From the Front Line, which was also co-produced by Warner Bros. TV, and recent scripted entries The Forgotten and The Whole Truth. Globe-trotting adventure The Amazing Race recently kicked off its 17th season on CBS where he has served as Sunday anchor for the past several years. It won record seven consecutive Emmy Awards for best reality competition series.

Van Munster’s the man. Look forward to it.
That was nice of you to say!
Second that!
I love Amazing Race, in fact have NEVER missed an episode of any season, so I’ll definitely check out this one!
Don’t know him, but he’s obviously a decent guy since he’s responding to posts personally.
Oh boy, a new competition to see if people can commit a crime and get away with it. Yes, it would be ABC that picks it up. Watch their programming, they get away with crime every day.
Haha, too true. My Generation was the worst piece of filth in television history. (BTW I actually like Bertram Van Munster. He’s one of the only talented reality producers out there)
Oh jeez, it’s just TV. Get over it.
Phil Morrow is a classy guy. Don’t know the other fellows but if he’s involved the show should be great.
There is a reason that Amazing Race has won 7 consecutive Emmys. Because it is the best. I too have watched every episode of every season, including the much debated Family Edition. Which I enjoyed, but not as well as the rest. They rarely ever miss casting wise. That couple, the verbally abuse Johnathan & his wife brought the show quality down a little that season. I am glad they have stayed away from that meanness that happens on other shows such as Survivor. This show has always had a positive uplifting experience.
Btw, what I don’t understand is why Phil hasn’t won an Emmy? The show wouldn’t be as good with out him.
Keep up the excellent Bertram & Co!
Still waiting for the rest of the Amazing Race seasons to be released on DVD. Wondering if that will ever happen. So far only seasons 1 & 7 are out and that was years ago.
I’ve always wanted to me Bertram Van Munster – one cuz I admire the logistics of Amazing Race and two cuz his is my favourite showbiz name – next to Babaloo Mandel and Sherwood Schwartz, of course.
If Bertram and Elise are doing it, it will have high talent visually and, what’s more, the chases will be real, unscripted, unpredictable, fun and, always, edge-of-the-seat.
Congratulations….sounds like an exciting concept…sounds like the team assembled can pull off another amazing reality show! will stay tuned
I’ve worked on three of Bert’s shows now. He has a tough exterior, but he has fun, and you can tell his heart is in the right place. He cares about his people, and not just the executives. From the talent to the PAs, he makes you feel welcome on his team, just as long as you stay out of his f’ing shot!!! Way to go!
The Amazing Race is my favorite show of all time. I hope that at some point a “The Making of The Amazing Race” is produced and released. The logistics of the show must be mind boggling.
The new season recorded in HD is visually awesome. I am very anxious to see the new show!
How could one attempt to qualify as a contestant for the show Take the Money? This of course is without having to pay some fee to some hack overseas promising me riches for the rest of mine.
Dan
I predict this show will be an Epic Failure of previously unknown proportions. That’s a tip from your uncle Lar.
