ABC today announced premiere dates for the Dancing with the Stars ice skating spinoff Skating with the Stars and the second season of V. Skating will slide into Dancing‘s Monday 8-9:30 PM slot following the conclusion of the current Dancing cycle, while V will air in the Dancing result show time period of Tuesdays 9 PM, following No Ordinary Family. Skating will premiere on November 22, airing twice behind Dancing on Mondays at 9 PM before moving to 8 PM on December 6. V returns January 4. No Ordinary Family will get a short run in the Tuesday 9 PM slot from November 30 until January 4 when it will slide back to its current 8 PM berth to form a block with similarly sci-fi-tinged V.

Skating With The Stars is a disastrous idea.
I competed in this sport as a kid. It’s incredibly difficult.
It’s like making ‘Ski Jump With The Stars’ – not something you just pick up in six weeks. And that ice is cold and hard to fall on.
Maybe that’s the point. To watch D-listers get beat up. I’d rather watch Wipe Out, which is sort of awesome.
isnt DWTS monday finale Nov 22nd?
WOW ABC! What an original idea! Oh wait, this is a rip off of Skating with Celebrities on Fox back in 2006. Terrible then, terrible now.
Skating with celebrities was a rip off of Strictly Ice Dancing the sister show of Strictly come Dancing on the BBC[ aka Dancing with the stars].
Loved Skating With Celebrities! That was THE best reality show ever and I am thrilled ABC is going ahead with a similar show. I mean, come on, you are taking your reality shows way too seriously if you didn’t enjoy the way badness of the skating and the unadulterated pulpness of it all. Yeehaw!!!!
Damn! So much for my neurosurgery with the stars idea.
You’d be struggling to find a brain in most of the D-listers they get on these shows, but the concept has some merit.
Skating with the Stars? I mean, really?
Here’s a better idea. Lets get NASA involved and create a show called “Stars to the Stars.” This way we can launch all of these so-called celebrities into space and never hear from them again. (Any suggestions who should be on the first season?)
As for “V”, the first season wasn’t very good. Completely forgettable. By holding season 2 off until January, most people aren’t going to choose to resample it. Pulling for it, though. Loved the original mini-series.
Skating With The Stars?! OMG! Is there an NBC mole in ABC Programming?!
Let’s hope that they make the second season of V as big as the show was twenty years ago!! The first season was a joke. It’s arrogant fools playing producers who think that just because FX technology has grown that they don’t have to do squat. Watch the pilot for the original V and watch any episode of the new version and you will BLUNTLY see that a show from 20 years ago looks WAY BIGGER. IT’S SHOCKING. Here’s the lesson to the idiot producers, just because Visual FX have grown does not mean that you should ignore sets, the amount of extras and real life/special FX.
The new V Show has nothing but shots of the space ship. The new V show is just like how they screwed up the Knight Rider remake. In the original Knight Rider pilot with David Hasselhoff, Kitt jumped over a semi truck, crashed through a brick wall, boosted Micheal Knight 50 feet in the air, crashed through a private jet and etc etc etc. In the new show all Kitt did was reflect bullets and have some crackling effect that comes from new technology. That was all he did, What a joke!!!! The new V series needs to up the epic scale, INCREASE THE FREAKEN ACTION (the old V had way more action and cool spaceship fighting) AND THIS WAS ALL 20 YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Advancements in Visual FX does not mean you should skimp on other parts of production. This new show is so small compared to the original series. Also, the original plays on the SciFi network every now and then or buy the DVD and it will show exactly how small the new show is compared to the old.
Yep. That’s very true. It would really help if they hired some actors. Morena Baccarin is probably useful as a model, but acting is something she simply cannot do.
Dave, if Morena Baccarin is such a bad actress then how come Joss Whedon is considering her for The Avengers? She was also great in Firefly. The fact is Joss Whedon has a great eye for quality writing (Hes rewriting The Avengers), directing and talent.
The first “V” was made in Hollywood on motion picture film.
The remake is made in Canada with digital cameras.
There is still a difference between the Major League-Hollywood and Minor League-Canada.
Thank you so much for digging into that knight rider catastrophe…ill take the original over the remake any day of the week and twice on sunday. The new car was boring and Val Kilmer is boring.
I love figure skating so I’ll be watching. I just hope this show isn’t all about Evan Lysacek, who I’m definitely not a fan of. I pretty much love every other skater. So this should be fun. *hopes*
Skating with the stars? Even America isn’t that stupid, right?
I am holding out hope for a midseason ‘Pooping with the Stars’. Come on ABC!
LOL
I’m still waiting for “Sexing With The Stars”.
This sounds a whole lot like “Battle of the Blades” on CBC in Canada. At least they use former hockey players who have at least some skating skills, and then emasculate them.
Not looking forward to this.
Actually it is a pretty good show and the hockey players do pretty well and as far as emasculation goes, I don’t think so. Both figure skaters and hockey players seem to always end up with plenty of mutual respect for each other; the skaters for the total commitment of the jocks and the jocks for the high physical demand the skaters deal with.
Skating with the Stars? How about Vomiting with the Audience instead?
Skating with the Stars? To quote skating medalist Nancy Kerrigan: Whyyyyyy? Whyyyyy?? Whyyyyy!?
Oh, C’mon. I love V, it’s fun. It’s mindless fun, but I’ll take it over Grey’s Crapnatomy any day. As for Skating with the Star, well, I thought Dancing with the Stars was a ridiculous idea….I suppose Skating with the Stars will take off.
I just hope that there won’t be a scandal like on Skating With Celebrities.
Another craptacular idea. Let’s put people who can’t skate on an ice dancing competition.
Just wondering what, these days, constitutes the definition of “Star”? Cause it ain’t these D-listers that are appearing on these shows.
If she is such a bad actress then how come Joss Whedon is considering her for The Avengers? She was also great in Firefly. The fact is Joss Whedon has a great eye for quality writing (Hes rewriting The Avengers), directing and talent.
Saw the show while in London last year and boy was it horrible. So sad watching their wobbly little jumps and the set with the giant plastic ice crystals.
If Skating With The Stars is as entertaining as Skating With Celebrities was, I say “why not?” Seeing Kristy Swanson getting her face smashed on the ice when Lloyd Eisler dropped her was priceless! Go for it ABC!
If Lysacek is on it, I’ll watch. He was such a cutie on Dancing with the Stars and I’d love to see him on TV again.
Here’s an idea. Get Guy Fieri involved and call it “Eating with the Stars”. It would consist of 22 minutes of watching a table of 4 eat a meal. It sounds about as exctiing as this skating nonsense. You want action? OK, we’ll get Gordon Ramsay to yell obsenities at the diners while they eat. Those that stay at the table throughout the entire meal win that round.
On second thoughtm that idea is too good for ABC (or any US network for that matter).
In the UK Dancing on Ice (as this series is called) has run for almost as long as Dancing with the Stars (or Strictly Come Dancing here).
It works very well in the January to March slot on ITV, is very popular and gets pretty big ratings on Sunday evenings.
The celebs train for some weeks before the first show.
There have been quite a few minor and semi serious injuries over the several series, mind you.
