I hear the order of ABC’s sophomore sci-fi drama V is being reduced from 13 to 10 episodes. ABC last week announced that V will return January 4 and will air in Dancing with the Stars‘ result show slot at 9 PM on Tuesdays, following fellow sci-fi drama No Ordinary Family. That gives V a 12-episode window until the spring season premiere of Dancing on March 29, but I hear the period is expected to include 2 preemptions, leading to V‘s order getting trimmed. Since the series is still filming, V producers will adjust the storyline for a proper season ending.

I wish they would trim it to zero episodes
Or hire some actors. Something Morena Baccarin, most surely, is not. But she’s not alone on that show.
Hey Gary, here’s an idea. Don’t watch it. Then it’s 0 episodes for you!
Not the worst show I’ve seen, but as a long time SciFi fan it’s just not that good. I just don’t “care”.
You just might get your wish.
There’s a vote o’ confidence from the front office…
If someone doesn’t like the new “V”, they should just not watch it. No need to hope for its demise when other people, like myself, DO like and watch it. The bottom line is that ABC has no interest in shows it doesn’t produce itself (and thus reap all the re-run and DVD sales from). The network also lacks faith in Sci-Fi in general, so why do they keep bothering? They canceled the original “Battlestar Galactica” in 1979 when it was a frakkin top-20 show, for crying out loud!
While new “V” is not as exciting as the original (I am still annoyed I haven’t seen a single skyfighter or space battle yet), it has enormous potential and has improved vastly since it started. ABC will undoubtedly cancel it after these 10 episodes, or they wouldn’t have cut the order from 13 as it is. The new head of ABC is a family-friendly asshole who ran the ABC Family network, and he will ruin ABC with kiddie junk that will only sink the network lower.
Move “V” to The CW where it belongs, since that network is half-owned by Warner Brothers, which directly owns and produces “V” and where it will thus make more money and be able to survive with lower ratings. It’s a no-brainer people!! Or get SyFy to take it. Or both!!
I totally agree with you on moving it if ABC does end up cancelling it. SyFy needs more science fiction stuff anyways now that its being overrun with non-science fiction shows. And with Smallville ending this year, I think your idea about moving it their would be great as well.
excuse yourself from watching v because it is one of the most exciting, but yet thrilling shows of the year, and I personally do not like people who say things about V.
ABC is not the place for “V” at all. “V” needs to be airing on Sci-Fi and it will be good. Move it into BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s former time slot at 10 p.m. and then nit will really become a bonafide hit. ABC shows they still are not interested in Sci-Fi. The only reason LOST (a show I never watched) did so well was because nobody expected it to get the raitings it did. Although 35 years have nearly passed, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s 1978 outing did one season because ABC felt it was not audience worthy. Look at that franchise now. “V” will be better off on a channel that does not produce shows called DANCING WITH THE STARS, where ther stars are knocked up duaghters of former governors, old actresses not in the spotlight anymore and cast members to reality shows so far off the reality base you can’t call them reality shows. C’mon, Jersey Shore? A show about losers who party, screw and lounge around all day without any casres in the world. It’s sick what our values have sunk to. Again is shows that INTELLIGENT television like “V” is not a product ABC has the courage or the worthiness to hold onto. Give it to another network where it will flourish. Jane Badler coming onboard is a great move. Wish ABC had the foresight to agree on that.
Why do some idiots find it necessary to actively wish for shows to get canceled. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Why do you even want to read about it? Get a life.
This is absurd. ABC has never seemed to want this to succeed since it’s from WB and not in house. They screwed with it by launching it with 4 eps then a 4 month break. Now this???
was just saying this to someone else before reading this … it seems deliberate the complete cluster they’ve cause. The first 4 had so much good will and buzz … and then it fell off a cliff. I talk to people and they just don’t give a damn anymore. Can’t spend your whole life waiting on a show with no support — especially one so completely story driven.
This show is amazing
Gary wouldn’t know good TV if it hit him in the ass
I watched through the first half of Season 1. I gave it time to develop, time to surprise me, and time to hook me. It failed by all accounts. Whereas the first one may kindly be forgiven for being a guilty pleasure, a product of 80′s cheese but also sharp political commentary, it knew how to not make its premise even more laughable than it already was. I enjoyed the 80′s miniseries and its sequel miniseries. Even the format of the original show of which I caught 2 episodes wasn’t bad.
V (2009)? Pure shit. I think deep down you know it, but you’re compelled on some level to defend against Gary’s statement. The FX on V are god awful, the actors project this plastic, B-movie quality to them while taking themselves way too seriously, and the leads are equally disgusting, in an almost third world soap opera way.
It feels like the bastard child of Lost and the original is what it feels like, with fruitless plot twists that proves the writing isn’t sustainable, and a less-than-faithful attitude towards the original’s iconic moments. There is almost nothing redeeming at all about this show.
For broadcast scifi, the Event is far better, even though it too suffers from the same mythology-based deficiencies. No worse than V, but better in a lot of instances. Fuck your taste in television.
*It feels like the bastard child of Lost and the original
Yeah, they really need to up the scale of V. It really is a joke compared to what was on the air decades ago. Diane was also sexier in her skin tight uniform. She is on this new series so lets hope her wardrobe is just as good.
Another huge mistake is that all the characters are really freaken boring. Marc Singer had that sort of Han Solo charisma and bad boy smirk. I still remember as a seven year old that one conversation between singer and his partner, “There’s a lot of people looking for your burrito.” Or something like that.
Everyone on this new show is boring as hell. Also, we could care less about the mother and son relationship, if we want to watch stuff like that than we will watch an after school special. Give me a break and fire someone who is in charge of the new show.
The old show had so much sweat, blood and tears put into it. When this new show is going the root of Knight Rider and The Bionic Woman. Also, tell those idiots to stop copying Lost. Lost was a great show but it is hardly as big a legend as the original V. There are some really dumb people running this show.
someone likes it…it doesnt hafta to have a sustainable story or lively characters & and it doesnt need a plot that you cant figure out…some people watch tv just for the “TV” and not trying to see the deeper meaning in shows or try to figure them out…everything doesn’t need to be fantastic!! you try pitching an idea to the networks, since you are of the greatest judgementt on shows
I cannot believe that some of you people would take the time to write so much about a show that you don’t like. Get a life and leave the show alone. Like others have said before don’t watch it then if you don’t like it. We all are allowed to like and enjoy different shows so leave our shows aone and we won’t run the ones you like into the ground.

I actually like V. It has a lot of potential. The cast is great and premise is awesome, they just need to stay more focused and get a bit deeper with the writing and it could be a great series all around. That being said, having two very short seasons isn’t very promising on network tv. I’m worried about its future, especially since it’s super long hiatus could spell disaster for its return ratings.
As much as I want this show to return, this doesnt seem hopeful, I think show unfortunately is doomed to fail sooner or later. Its no fault of the show, just ABC’s unwillingness to help it out.
I thought V ended well in the first season and cant wait to see where they take the story.
Jane Badler will be on as will Reaper’s Bret Harrison etc. sounded like ABC was getting confident in V. Scheduling problems? The last I checked there were 52 weeks in the year not 10.
Come on ABC give us the full season’s worth of V.
They takE SO damned long to come back after a hiatus … and they wonder while people no longer watch their programs.
The inmates are in charge of the asylum.
And next time I promise to check for typos before I hit “submit”.
It will be the last season because people are going to realize it’s not as good as the previous show. Didn’t the Knight Rider remake only last two seasons. Here is what someone wrote on another thread:
Let’s hope that they make the second season of V as big as the show was twenty years ago!! The first season was a joke. It’s arrogant fools playing producers who think that just because FX technology has grown that they don’t have to do squat. Watch the pilot for the original V and watch any episode of the new version and you will BLUNTLY see that a show from 20 years ago looks WAY BIGGER. IT’S SHOCKING. Here’s the lesson to the idiot producers, just because Visual FX have grown does not mean that you should ignore sets, the amount of extras and real life/special FX.
The new V Show has nothing but shots of the space ship. The new V show is just like how they screwed up the Knight Rider remake. In the original Knight Rider pilot with David Hasselhoff, Kitt jumped over a semi truck, crashed through a brick wall, boosted Micheal Knight 50 feet in the air, crashed through a private jet and etc etc etc. In the new show all Kitt did was reflect bullets and have some crackling effect that comes from new technology. That was all he did, What a joke!!!! The new V series needs to up the epic scale, INCREASE THE FREAKEN ACTION (the old V had way more action and cool spaceship fighting) AND THIS WAS ALL 20 YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Advancements in Visual FX does not mean you should skimp on other parts of production. This new show is so small compared to the original series. Also, the original plays on the SciFi network every now and then or buy the DVD and it will show exactly how small the new show is compared to the old.
Bingo.
What started out slowly and a little unfocused really turned into something enjoyable as the series went on. It was like setting up a chessboard. Now the pieces are in place and its time for the series to expand its scope beyond a resistance of a dozen people. Time for the occupation to begin and the resistance to make its presence known.Give credit to a series that took its hiatus and retooled in the right direction.
PArt of the problem between the first four eps and the first few eps starting at 5 was the change in showrunners and the guy stepping in had to deal with story line threads from the first four. Once they got past that the story really picked up and Season 1 ended great.
And why do you care? How does it affect your life in any way??
Wish they trim DWTS to nothing. Really, who watches that crap?
I agree, why not reduce this show?
I watched a few episodes last season and was fairly entertained for the 45 minutes I was watching them but itdidn’t stick with me and I don’t tink I’ll be back. However, that said, hee’s an idea for ABC – instead of trimming the orde to fit into the season, why not let this one spill over into the summer? It’s only 3 episodes difference, and if they are able to do well with it in-season, allowing the last few to spill over would hep keep eyeballs on the network as they launch their summer programming. Granted, V is not a huge performer, but still it is an established show. It worked for Glee last year when the final 2 episodes ran in June after the Idol finale was already done. Not that V is anywhere close to Glee’s ratings, but still. If they make an attempt to put interesting programming on in the summer, networks, I will watch it. Just saying.
for the record, V is a cool show, I’m glad it was saved over Flashforward. But, considering ABC is now under new management, it’s understandable. ABC DID launch the show with a huge push last season, but it was the show runners shuffle that led to that huge three months break, and the fact that rating was simply not impressive, that made the network lose confidence in the show. ABC is in desperate needs for something fresh and buzzworthy. It’s a bit sad that stupid dancing show is one of their few big hits.
It was great as a mini series on NBC, but, when they made it into a weekly series it failed, ABC didn’t learn from NBC’s past mistakes. There is a new person running ABC now, V doesn’t have McPherson to protect it. Sink or succeed it will depend on the ratings for the 10 episodes. It was borderline last season.
Unlike McPherson Paul Lee doesn’t seem to let low rated shows go on and on and on. My Generation had low ratings and now it’s gone. Lee was brought in to shake things up not leave things the same. It’s not how great a show is it’s all in the numbers.
To ABC’s “V” showrunners:
Here are a few suggestions to improve season 2 (if you have any hope of a season 3):
1) Let’s see some full-on lizard aliens, not just portions of cloned skin removed.
2) Up the ante regarding the occupation and conquering of Earth. This currently plays very small, with a resistance group that seems to be only a few people.
3) Bring someone from the original series on as a guest star – Marc Singer, Jane Badler, for example. Connect with the original without being cheesy about it.
4) Improve the writing. Enough of the mother/son angst – we get it already!
5) Let’s see some action. I mean, c’mon, old Doctor Who had better action sequences (and better FX);
6) Pick a season-long story arc and stick with it. Most likely, you are not looking at syndication.
7) If ABC is not supporting you, go cable. It worked for Battlestar Galactica (albeit there were as many supporters of the new BSG as haters).
Quality scifi is possible on television – broadcast and cable. Remember you are telling a story, not just selling commercials.
They actually are bringing in Jane Badler for Season 2. As far as I know, she’s in all 10 episodes of Season 2. I interviewed her a few weeks back and her character sounds great.
I do think V 2009 has potential but they certainly need to increase the action elements. However, ABC didn’t give Flashforward a chance and that was made in house. An order of just 10 eps doesn’t bode well.
V is fun sci-fi. For all of you naysayers, go back to your franchise CSI and Law & Order formula shows. ABC seems to want this show to fail. Let it go, ABC, and let a cable network pick it up where its niche audience can get the story planning and execution we know is possible, IF ABC would stop fucking with it.
Us naysayers are… uh… saying “Nay” because we want to see good Sci-fi. I don’t watch CSI/Law & Order and all that stuff because we find that boring as well. I gave “V” a shot, and it completely blew all of the initial suspense the original had, then plodded around with no “big stakes” plotlines. Last episode I peeked at, the lead alien (the best character on the show) said: “My bliss isn’t working” or something like that. If the best character is getting lousy line like that, then no thanks – I’m gone.
I loved the episode where Anna’s “babies” get blown up and she starts experiencing massive grief.
There’s been “talk” about Reptilians taking over humanity but the truth is evident that it has always been the other way around. Human-mammalian DNA turned out to be so much more dominant as we evolved away from our reptilian ancestry.
It would be more interesting than another tiresome blow-em-up-pew-pew episode to start showing how humans overcome the aliens by humanizing them instead. And I mean, in a good way.
And sure, leave room for gratuitous violence for the war-mongers but for crying out loud (yes, Anna, you are having your first human emotion) – do not turn it into another boring series where it’s more about the science-fiction and the characters are half-baked.
Case in point: that son does not talk to mother stuff needs some reworking. Their relationship is painfully dry. Anna’s relationship with her daughter is interesting, however. I would watch the next season just to see what happens there.
V’s still on? I could’ve swore I read that it had been cancelled..
Huh – who knew!
A lot of people gave up on V when ABC put on that annoying “countdown clock” during an episode in the final season of Lost.
ABC really hates V! They don’t give it a proper showing its first season, airing 4 episodes in November, taking a 4 month break, and then airing the remaining episodes without any notice of return. Then they release the fall 2010 schedule with V missing from it and it was not until a month or so after that it was said they plan on it being a “mid-season starter”. At comic-con, it was announced they planned on coming back in November, but recently have pushed it back to January. Now they reduced the 13-episode second season order to 10!
Who wants to bet that there won’t be any advertising for V’s return until a few weeks before it comes back and it will only be some quick teasers on TV? ABC sucks, I hate how they treat the shows that have such great potential.
Hopefully this will be the FINAL 10 episodes.
The only reason to watch that show was Morena Baccarin, not only is beautiful, but she’s great in that role… Whatever happens to this show, she has a great future ahead of her!
Love this show. Hopefully Morena keeps her hair trimmed
