I hear the order of ABC’s sophomore sci-fi drama V is being reduced from 13 to 10 episodes. ABC last week announced that V will return January 4 and will air in Dancing with the Stars‘ result show slot at 9 PM on Tuesdays, following fellow sci-fi drama No Ordinary Family. That gives V a 12-episode window until the spring season premiere of Dancing on March 29, but I hear the period is expected to include 2 preemptions, leading to V‘s order getting trimmed. Since the series is still filming, V producers will adjust the storyline for a proper season ending.

Yeah, I would have introduced the occupation around th 4th episode or so. Would be way more interesting, a lot more to work with. Get Juliet’s (she will never not be Juliet to me) son onboard the mothership to give her a tangible goal early on. Definitely would give more attention to the question of why they look human, and not have made the reptilian stuff as cheesy as it was in some episodes, like when Morena Baccarin (who I really enjoy and should be given a little more to work with) had very large teeth.
Patrick is right about how they are making the same mistakes with V as they did with Knight Rider. They are acting like arrogant fools and the result is that V is way smaller in scale compared to the original show from decades ago. Where is the action in the remake????
They really need to up the scale of V. It really is a joke compared to what was on the air decades ago. Diane was also sexier in her skin tight uniform. She is on this new series so lets hope her wardrobe is just as good.
Another huge mistake is that all the characters are really freaken boring. The old series worked because Marc Singer had that sort of Han Solo charisma and bad boy smirk. I still remember as a seven year old that one conversation between singer and his partner, “There’s a lot of people looking for your burrito.” lol Or something like that.
Everyone on this new show is boring as hell. Also, we could care less about the mother and son relationship, if we want to watch stuff like that than we will watch an after school special. Give me a break and fire someone who is in charge of the new show.
The old show had so much sweat, blood and tears put into it. When this new show is going the root of Knight Rider and The Bionic Woman. Also, tell those idiots to stop copying Lost. Lost was a great show but it is hardly as big a legend as the original V. There are some really dumb people running this show. Bring in the action (this remake has next to none), size (the original show that had none of the digital tech of today looks larger), fun-comedy (all the actors on this new show are as flat as cardboard) and dark-drama (show a full freaken lizard, all they’s shown is skin, an 18 yr old kid taking a film class can show more than that). Again someone running this show needs to get fired since they have no common sense.
“V” does have potential- and with Jane Badler on board for the 120 episodes, hopefully some fans will return. Heck, at this point, 7 million+ regular viewers and a 2.5 in the 18-49 demo would be acceptable. The long hiatus did not help it when it returned last spring. It’s too bad,m because the show did improve following the initial four episodes.
Another thing to keep in mind- ABC said from the start that it wanted to air the show sporadically. of course, that’s not the best way to keep viewers interested.
i love “V” and i hope to everythings will be okay to enjoy and watch our serie with Diana,Anna and company!
since ABC is cutting down from 13 to 10 episodes which imo is total B.S will the dvd season 2 contain all 13 episodes or just 10 ?
i sincerely hope it’ll contain all 13 but i need to be sure so i know if it’s worth purchasing or not.
oh and about the endless delay between seasons, and the trimming of episodes, i got to words for ABC: f… you. they should give it to another network which is willing to take the show seriously instead of filling the time slot initially alocated to V, with boring and ridiculous shows. i mean for christ sake ABC should check out the scores on IMDB and this is only the beginning. doesnt those scores tell them anything ? my guess is they wanted to trash the show from the beginning and that’s why they make such a drag out of it. i’m tempted to flip them off again for delaying the show and so i will.
The Season 2 DVD set of “V” will only contain the 10 episodes ABC trimmed the order to. 13 are no longer being made, unless the episodes premiering in January do SO well in the ratings that ABC extends the order. Not likely. All the fans need to start writing Warner Brothers begging them to move “V” to their CW Network or make a deal with SyFy Channel, or you can rest assured, this short 10-episode second season on ABC will be the last for “V”
I really hope this won’t be the final season, but I’m certain it will be. That being said, I wish TV series in general would follow more of a mini-series model. It could save a lot of good shows from going bad if the writers knew in advance when the end will come. Every show (even the ones I love) should have like a five season max; leave us wanting more not regretting the downturn it took. Think about it; movies tell their stories in two +/- hours. Most dramas have twenty-four a season; that is certainly enough time to tell a proper story.
I watched the first series, and was beyond thrilled when the remake arrived. I LOVE this series and am curious about all that’s not said, too. Morena, I believe, played the daughter of one of the Star Gate characters whose name I’m drawing a blank on. She was literally “aflame” with power. Need to find that episode again.
So, ABC, please keep the showing going. We SF/spec lovers and writers need our creative and fun fix. Sorry not to be more eloquent. . .If ABC abandons it, then hopefully the SF channel will take it in. We can always boycott ABC in perpetuity.
You beat me to the punch! If someone wants 0 episodes that’s easy don’t watch it! Heck I wish there was 0 episodes of Dancing with the Stars. & for me its true. Cause when its time for it to air guess what? I flip the channel. But maybe its different for Gary? Maybe he’s one of the V’s or Visitors & don’t want people to find out his true cause & for no one to know he’s a lizard person here to still our water! Lol.
I hope this show doesn’t get canceled after season 2. I remember when I was a kid I loved V. Now as an adult when I found out they was redoing it I was pumped! Yes I do think they have dropped the ball some. 20years ago the fight scenes & all the action was incredible. I’m hoping season 2 they up the anti with more action scenes! Plus I hope they show more of the lizard part of the aliens! With the FX abilities they need to step it up. But regardless don’t drop the show. If ABC isn’t happy with it send it to the CW or SCI-FY channel. Let the fans enjoy the show. At least let the story play out. It has some great potential! & ABC if you play your cards right there’s a chance for a movie! Look X.Files had 2 movies. 1 while the show was on the air & the 2nd one after show was off the air. Look at the money you all can make if you do it & do it right! I also hope they get more in depth on the sleeper cells left behind & tell why they left them behind & why. Just so many awnsers I hope to get awnsered. Please ABC don’t leave the true V fans short! I’m never about canceling shows but V is a lot better show than Dancing with the Stars from the past. Or at least get real stars. How is the daughter of Alaska’s ex governer and failed V.P. candidates who had a kid out of Wed lock & as teenager considered a star. If anyone in that family should Of even thought about being put on the show it should’ve been her mom. Next season when you unfortunately bring Dancing with the Stars just actually make them stars not someones kid. Maybe you can bring on Obama’s cousin or Shaq’s niece? Don’t waste my time on a someone who was once famous’s sibling who is only famous because she got knocked up while mommy was running for office! At least When You had Ozzie’s. Daughter on she had been on TV with her family for years. Sorry to people who like dancing with the stars I Don’t mean to rag your show. It just annoys me thinking they are cutting the season of V to 10 episodes from 13 & will probably end up canceling the show. I say let another channel pick it up. Especially a channel that can do it right! Maybe ABC should let America call & vote on what show to keep? V or Dancing with the I’m famous because my mommy ran for office & I got pregnant as a teenager in my bedroom looking at Russia which is across my yard! Sorry for the rant guys! Oh yeah to all the computer hackers out there Don’t mess with the Palins she pressed charges on a university of Tenn. Student here. & wanted to send the kid to prison for 18yrs. Which is overkill! Plus it got old watching it on local news here in Knoxville.
A list of rules everyone should follow when it comes to V (2009)
1. Don’t like it, don’t watch it. People have had it up to here with your complaints.
2.It’s the first season people, give it a chance to improve. Seems to me a lot of tv shows, didn’t improve until past the first season.
3. As I said in (2.) more exploration will most likely, as well as action in the following season.
4. The FX are pretty cool, remember this is a TV show that has limited time and budget to write, act, and add FX. This series goes week by week, it doesn’t have months and a huge budget to work with like movies.
5. For those of you who loved the original “Jane Balder”(Diana in the original) is returning as Anna’s mother. Although her name is Diana but not the same one from the original.
6. The Last episode ended with red skies which will probebly add a lot of problems for the V, as well as whats up between Marcus and Hobbes.
They re-ran the original V on SyFy not too long ago. It started out OK but really got cornier and cornier near the end. I’m sure the same will happen here since the writing (pardon expr) is on the wall.
But hey, at least we will see what’s up with the Lizzard Baby! Yeahhh.
DONT YOU GUYS SEE?!
The “show” is trying to prepare YOU for a possible future eventuality.
No. It wont win any Emmys. But, if you watch it with an understanding, you may getter a clearer understanding of your World and how so easily humans are able to be manipulated. When the KJV of the Bible was written, it had to be written in a way so as to inform while simultaneously not be offensive to the ruling class in power. As absurd as it sounds, how many more dead animals need to ‘mysteriously’ fall from the sky to make you SEE that there is something unnatural taking place? How many ships need to hover over China? Visit Texas? Fly through NYC? How many ‘swirls’ need to be created over Oslo for you to see what an ‘entrance/exit’ looks like?
Wake up people.
It may sound funny now, but I guarantee you before this very year is out 2011, you WILL see. And, no one will be laughing.
wow, for a few lines of news about V, you guys sure complain alot about EVERYTHING. Why are most of you even here? Do you go to random sites and start flaming on forums all the timee? Sounds like alot of fun… But anyways… V is a pretty good show, but back to back seasons with 12 and 10 episodes… Season 1 and 2 dont even add up to 24 episodes, which is the average episodes in a season for a one hour drama… And yes, V is considered a drama and sci-fi. if u take out the fact there are aliens under the skin of the V’s, its not very much sci-fi in the show at all. Nothing compared to lost or Fringe or Battlestar Galactica…. V is like a mother worried about her son, thats one of the big parts on the show… i wish they used some more sci-fi in it.
Why is that? What’s your problem?
Would you perform better…?
If you don’t “care”, why do you bother leaving these comments here, in the first place? Attention deficit…?
Excellent post/reply. I completely agree with you. Thumbs up.
I don’t know what the problem is that some of you have with this current version of V. I was around for the first V and I saw it on Syfy when they rebroadcast it before the first season of the current version of V.
While it was fascinating to see the bad wardrobe styles and ridiculous hairstyles of the “actresses” and “actors” in the 1980′s version, I was reminded how the show really didn’t go anywhere after it’s initial story played itself out (once the virus got spread around earth banishing V who didn’t have the “pills” that would allow them to live here that they had to take on an exact schedule (Gee, maybe it was a reflection of what was going on with AIDS at the time? But, I don’t want to give too much credit to the mindless writers of the first version.))
And the special effects made me laugh. Even by 1980′s standards the effects were laughable. Today the original V special effects are up there with the original Godzilla movies (made in Japan) compared to the effects in the current version of V. Does anyone remember how plastic the half human half reptile baby looked in that tub of water? It looked kind of like a green Cabbage Patch Kid with lizard eyes, honestly.
The V skin, V eyes, and V parts we’ve seen in this version are so much more realistic. And the technological special effects are kind of cool. No, they aren’t up to the standard of what they are doing in theaters with the new 3-D high definition movies, but did you really expect that in a television series? (think lower budgets)
And I was a huge fan of both the old and new Battlestar Galactica for different reasons. The new one had excellent writers, plot, character, development, actors, and special effects. But it was on the Syfy channel and didn’t have to dumb itself down for “network audiences.”
This current version of V is for “network audiences” who network executives seem to think are almost universally brain dead. I think that hamstrings this show, personally.
ABC did V no favors in the timing of the release of the initial episodes and the huge gap between Season 1 and Season 2 didn’t help the continuity. Many television viewers don’t have long enough attention spans to be able to hold their interest or remember previous seasons if the seasons are too far apart.
I don’t know why people think that the actress who plays Anna is so bad. Honestly, she’s perfect for the part. Her natural physical features make her look like more like an alien even dressed up as a human. And I believe that she is purposefully stunting her emotional output as a character because Vs are supposed to be deviod of human emotion. She is keeping herself wooden on purpose, I think. I think it adds to her alien look and mystique. She’s unconventionally beautiful even by today’s standards. Her facial features keep me transfixed, honestly.
And those of you who loved the old V because of the skimpy outfits worn by the woman really don’t think you felt that the story line or character development was better in the old V version do you? Let’s face it, the women Vs in the 1980′s V version looked like they just stepped out of Olivia Newton John video for “Let’s Get Physical.” They were dressing that way for 1980′s sex appeal, even with the ridiculous big hair. It didn’t add anything to the plot or character development. It did hold the attention of young men (and some older men too) who needed a sexual hit to watch any show.
The old V was a product of its times. The themes were more militaristic. The virus that banished the V from Earth, I think, was a nod toward the then new virus of HIV that scared most of us at the tiem and had some people thinking that AIDS would decimate the population of the world. The militarism was definitely a nod toward the Cold War and the vast Industrial Complex that we were building to “keep up” with the Soviets at the time.
Today’s V has a more sober look. Characters are dressed appropriately for the 2010′s. They dress like we do, even the V dress like we do, except when they are in uniform. The new V uniforms are not the silly spandex of the old uniforms because really, who wears spandex anymore?
The themes of today’s V are terrorism, trust, and relationships. That’s what people are focused on today. We are no longer in a Cold War. We are dealing with terrorism globally and focused on groups of terrorists connected by global networks. The new V asks questions like, “Who is a terrorist?” “One person’s terrorist is another person’s freedom fighter.”
The characters are not one-dimensional 100% good or 100% evil (with the exception of Anna, perhaps). Even Anna is just trying to fight for the survival of her species. The human characters are complex and have lately been revealed as traitors to their own cause through manipulation of their human emotions their own personal human relationships by the V. They are not the caricatures of the 1980′s where people were either 100% for the human cause (good) or 100% for the V cause (bad). Even the V traitor this time isn’t 100% on the humans’ side. The main V traitor character in the 80′s version was 100% on the humans’ side.
This current version reflects the tastes of the 2010′s. Did anyone expect a 100% copy of the 1980′s version? Would that have been interesting at all?
This current version doesn’t have the best acting or the most intricate and suspenseful plot. Much of it is predictable and I laugh when the human characters just happen to immediately find the “right” piece of information every time they are looking for it.
Part of the problem here is that ABC has paired down the number of episodes for this show. There isn’t as much time for better multi-dimensional character development or more complex plot and side plot development. I watch this show after I record it on DVR. Does anyone notice that the shows are actually anywhere from 35-40 minutes max? The amount of commercial time is astounding (ranging from 20-25 or even 30 minutes for some episodes) and I would be highly annoyed by it if I were watching it in real time. This further limits actual screen time where plot and character development could happen.
I would give this show a B if I were to grade it or 3 stars out of 4. I didn’t expect it to be faithful to the old version because that would have been quite boring. Battlestar Galactica in the latest version didn’t adhere 100% to the old series from the 70′s (Actually not even close. Where was Boxy? Where was that stupid robot “daggit?”) That was an improvement for BSG, IMHO. I believe the same goes for the current version of V. I like that the latest version has creatively changed itself to become relevant for today’s audiences.
To those of you who bemoan the passing of the 1980′s kitch of the original V and wish that the outfits of the female Vs were more skimpy, I truly feel sorry for you. I feel sorry for you even more if this is what it takes for you to enjoy a Science Fiction show. If you are nostalgic for the old V’s kitch and 1980′s feel, then please stick to your copies of the old V. Watch them over again. They are fun to watch as period pieces.
I just don’t think that those are good reasons to dislike the current version of V. Art changes over time. Hairstyles, clothes, and make up change over time. This current version, while giving an occasional nod to the old V, is a new creation that can stand on its own. I think that is to be applauded.
If all the plot twists haven’t been exhausted in Season 2′s Finale, I hope they extend V to a 3rd Season where all plot twists get wrapped up. I’ve missed the last 3 episodes (due to a busy life) and I look forward to catching up and seeing the finale of Season 2 this coming weekend. If they aren’t going to have a Season 3, I hope they don’t leave us hanging. If they have a Season 3 I hope that they have enough original material to make it interesting and that the show finally gets a whole season to develop some depth.
V is just getting better and better, I love the way they have brought back the old characters from the first V. PLEASE DONT CANCEL IT, WE LOVE IT HERE IN SOUTH AFRICA.
