In its second season finale, MTV’s phenom Jersey Shore fell short of the all-time record of 6.7 million viewers it posted earlier this fall. But a total audience of 6.1 million viewers and a 3.1 rating in 18-49 that won the 10 PM hour over the broadcast networks is nothing to scoff at. (Jersey Shore also won the entire night in persons 12-34 with a 6.1) For its second season, Jersey Shore averaged 5.8 million viewers and a 5.7 P12-34 rating to become MTV’s highest rated series ever in persons 12-34.

I’d say “fist pump” but I’m kind of over them. The show was always trash, but at least season 1 was fun trash. Season 2 is just fake, forced trash and I hate all of them. I kinda found them likable in season 1, dumb disgusting likable but still likable. Now they’re just tiresome and they all just need to go away, I’m over it. (I kinda liked Angelina though, since she annoyed them all so much. They should keep her for season 3, since season 2 ratings were so high.)
Uhh…fist pump? Reality TV needs to die.
The downfall of American television continues. Why do people watch this Jersey/kardashian/real housewives trash? These people have no lives, do nothing to benefit society, and are only famous for being famous. Why is America obsessed with watching morons with the IQ of a steaming pile of dog feces do absolutely nothing but act obnoxious? If you stop watching these shows maybe these people will get real jobs and just GO AWAY.
You know as much as we hate to admit it, if it’s on television it’s escapism. A scripted television show is escapism, the same way a football game is, the same way a reality show is.
No one has yet to explain why reality shows shouldn’t exist, but scripted shows should. Is it simply because we all came out here to work in the scripted world?
Also what does IQ have to do with watching a television program? Steven Hawking is considered by many to be the most brilliant man in the world and yet most (including his peers) would never want to watch a scripted television show starring a character like him.
Anyone who thinks these shows are unscripted is a dolt. This is a well-produced goofy TV show. No reason to hate. I love the fact that these people are making millions of dollars. It is the Real World Challenge, where people go insane to possibly get a few grand, that makes me unhappy.
Thank you N Cognito Dood. You rock.
Bill is right can these idiot reality “stars” need to get off tv and magazines.. I am so sick of the Situation or Infection or whatever his name is and those kardashian sluts, like throwing a hotdog thru a hallway there. It pays to be shallow, stupid, worthless, untalented and slutty. I wish these people would go away and die
Aww man! N Cognito what about Deadliest Catch and Swamp Loggers. Yo Saturday afternoon, the kids at karate and those shows on dvr plus a beer = Lazy Days!!!!
I hear you though, a lot of reality tv is kinda bad.
I wonder what the ratings would be if we just put hardcore porn on MTV? Higher or lower? I love the fact that these people are untalented, shallow, stupid, and (not my words) worthless. Those of us who are in this for the long haul use and abuse them for our amusement and we profit from their stupidity. Where do you think the majority of these fools will be in a decade or even five years? Where will you be? The difference is what separates the winners from the losers. We live in a country where stupid is celebrated. Embrace it and plan your exit carefully.
All of you reality haters are kind of over thinking this. Its not about praising stupidity its about novelty. Television is novelty pure and simple. Jersey Shore is simply a show about a sub culture that hasn’t gotten much air time before. People will get sick of it, its kind of designed to be disposable like the culture itself. It doesn’t mean America is stupid, it means America is getting a kick out of a bunch of characters. Remember when Who Wants to Be a Millionaire dominated prime time? Americans will watch anything as long as its novel.
“Americans will watch anything as long as its novel.”
Very true. We’ll watch it until the novelty wears off, then we’ll get bored and find something else.
MTV seems to be good at finding things like this, milking them for a few cycles, then moving on to the next fabricated trend.
Is “Jersey Shore” really any different than “The Hills”, or “The Real World”, or “Road Rules”?
The formula: take a group of young people with little responsibility, put them in nice surroundings, pays their expenses, enable their questionable behavior and bad judgment, then film away and reap the benefits.
everyone in new jersey wants u all to know these imbeciles ARE NOT from new jersey. they are all from new york city.
I recently became a fan of this show. It is like hanging out with these people without actually having to be around them. I really enjoyed it!
