UPDATE: I hear the orders to $#*! and The Defenders are for 6 additional episodes and 3 scripts, while the 9-episode back order to Mike & Molly may be expanded to 11.
PREVIOUS: CBS is not monkeying around, handing out today full-season orders to all of its freshman series: dramas Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods, dramedy The Defenders and comedies Mike & Molly and $#*! My Dad Says. No big surprise here given the fact that those happen to be the five most-watched new series of the season and 3 of them, Hawaii, Mike & Molly and $#*! also rank as the top three new series in
adults 18-49. The solid showing by the five freshmen helped CBS win the opening 4 weeks of the season for the first time. ”Everything has clicked so far this year—from development in January, to scheduling in May, to production over the summer, to marketing and publicity in the fall,” CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said. Hawaii is averaging 14.2 million viewers and a 4.1/11 in 18-49 and also ranks as the most DVR’d TV program, adding some 3.4 million viewers with live plus 7-day playback. Blue Bloods
(12.7 million, 2.2/07) dominates its Friday 10 PM time period. The season-to-date averages for the other newly-renewed series are: Defenders (11.3 million, 2.8/8), Mike & Molly (12.3 million, 4.1/11) and $#*!(11.3, 3.5/10). CBS is the only network to keep all of its freshman series for the whole season this fall. NBC, ABC and Fox have already cancelled one series each: Outlaw, My Generation and Lone Star, respectively. NBC has picked up the rest, giving The Event, Chase, Law & Order: Los Angeles and Outsourced back-nine order and Undercovers an order for 4 more scripts. Fox has picked up comedy Raising Hope for the rest of the season.

What???
Hawaii dropped to 10.9 million and 2.9 demo. The other shows dropped too.
I guess Ms. Tassler is not good with numbers.
This season , all new shows, losers
Jim Belushi is one lucky duck. At least 5-0 has a stellar supporting cast, great direction and a solid DP to prop up the weakness of its leading man.
Ditto on the 5-0 leading man. Like the show, but still sit and wonder, “how is he the lead again?” Should’ve given it to my boy Jin for the win!
Good for H50, Blue Bloods, and The Defenders. As for Shat My Dad Says…still shocked people watch that.
I was not a fan of the first couple episodes, but the last few have been MUCH funnier… consider me turned.
Shit My Dad Says (or whatever CBS insists on calling it to ‘avoid controversy’) is an insult to my intelligence. I watched the first one and then gave up. Tried to watch last night and lasted about 5 minutes.
It’s not getting better. People’s tolerance for bad writing is getting lower.
They keep falling with each passing week. The Defenders is down to a 2.2. I believe Hawaii Five-0 is down to a 2.9.
$#*! My Dad Says is just awful. Mike & Molly could be better. Haven’t seen Hawaii Five-0. Blue Bloods is the only show that I enjoy. It deserves a better time slot.
H50 is a fairly good show; as said above Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace park more than make up for the performance of star Alex O’Loughlin.
I agree. I liked Mike and Molly initially, but have my doubts now. I’m not laughing like I used to.
It’s good that Blue Bloods, Mike and Molly, and Hawaii Five-O got picked up, but Bleep My Dad Says? That was total bleep.
I wish CBS would “man up” and just call it Shit My Dad Says.
You gotta be kidding. With Congress, the FCC and the PTC the way they are, it will never happen. That’s a no-no word that can bring big fines.
CBS has done an epic job of giving the average American exactly what they want. Additionally they employ half the working writers/actors in town and have found great success without relying on trashy reality TV and LA/NYC-only concepts.
Congratulations to the Eye.
yes, that.
This is CBS just ignoring the facts and tooting their own horn. I’m sure Julie Chen’s new show will be picked up for three years in a week. Nina Tassler is at the mercy of the ego of her boss. The Good Wife is the only show of any significance they have put on the air IN YEARS.
Feed the audience dog food and if they aren’t smart enough to turn the channel they learn to like dog food.
Is there a show about dog food?! When is it on, I wanna watch it!
Sadly, some folks believe that Good Wife may be in trouble.
Good for Hawaii 5-0…clearly the person(s) driving that ship knows what they’re doing.
Have to agree with Alex: The first few episodes of Shit My Dad Says were a mess — I only kept watching because I’m a major Shatner fan — but it’s been getting better and better every week. Still not perfect, but genuinely funny and the actors are starting to develop real chemistry with each other. And Shatner is hitting it out of the park. He did it again in tonight’s episode with a laugh-out-loud accidental eulogy at a stranger’s funeral.
All those shows are losing numbers each week, Yes, Hawaii went from a 3.9 to a 2.9, and The Defenders from 2.9 to a 2,2. Nothing to be proud about. I guess is cheaper to keep them until May than ordering new shows. The only one I see coming back next year is Mike&Molly , assuming the numbers stay steady.
Are you kidding? Have you seen the other new shows on the other networks and their ratings? ABC and NBC would kill to have even one of these new shows. CBS has to be very happy with their newbies. And no…Mike & Molly won’t be the only one to get a season 2.
mike and molly all cbs has going for it; would rather watch fox news!
You’re the D.P. apparently.
Agree with the positive notices for Bleep’s recent episodes. It has gotten a lot better and is a genuinely funny show now.
Great for Blue Bloods and The Defenders. Was worried The Defenders wouldn’t be picked up.
When shows get cancelled, people complain. When shows get picked up, people complain. What conclusion can we draw?
With NBC renewing all of its losers for this season already, this is no surprise. It’s a tribute to the stability at CBS versus the chaos and stupidity at the Peacock Network over the last six years. Guess Zucker wants to keep the network at #4 when Comcast takes over as leaders. Way to go, Jeff.
Mike and Molly is disgusting, this show is so perverted and the original story idea is gone. This has turned into an absolute mess. It is not funny and it is almost un-watchable.
I am stunned that execs at CBS still want to order more episodes of this, this had the potential to be a really sweet show after the first episode and by the third episode, they screwed the series.
