Locke & Key already had a series commitment attached to it. Now Fox has officially greenlighted a pilot from the Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci-produced project based on the graphic novel, which is eyed for a potential summer run. The Locke & Key adaptation, written by Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles creator Josh Friedman, is produced by 20th Century Fox TV, Kurtzman and Orci’s 20th TV-based K.O. Paper Products and DreamWorks TV where the project originated on the feature side. Based on Joe Hill’s comic published by IDW Publishing, Locke & Key tells the story of Nina Locke and her three children, Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode, who survive an unspeakable horror and attempt to rebuild their lives at Keyhouse, their family home in Lovecraft, Massachusetts. It is a mysterious New England mansion, with fantastic and transformative keys hidden inside its walls that are also being sought by a hate-filled and relentless creature with ties to the Locke family’s past who will stop at nothing to accomplish his sinister goals. Friedman, who will serve as showrunner, executive produces with Kurtzman, Orci, K.O’s Heather Kadin, DreamWorks TV’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank as well as IDW CEO Ted Adams. This is the third off-cycle pilot order for Fox, which also recently greenlighted drama pilot Alcatraz and comedy pilot Outnumbered. Both Locke & Key and Alcatraz originated as sough-after pitches that landed at Fox in early September.

I give it 3 episodes before it’s canned. I think it’s ridiculous how these “big shots” get these development deals and every idea they fart out or property they discover to adapt gets a greenlight no matter how awful it is, meanwhile unknowns are pitching great (and ACTUALLY original) pilots every day to no avail. This show will bomb. It wouldn’t even make a good movie, let alone a tv series. Horror tv shows just don’t usually last long. Genre/sci-fi yes. Horror no. ABC tried it recently a couple of times and both were cancelled. Now FOX will do it just because of the names attached as producers, even though it won’t last beyond mid season. What a joke.
Seriously. The Sarah Conner Chronicles was an abomination so it’s a good thing the studios avoided working with Friedman again. Oh, wait, they gave him ANOTHER SERIES??
What do you mean “Horror tv shows just don’t usually last long”? Fox news is still on the air. That’s horror right there!
What are you talking about? The graphic novel is great. You obviously have never read the material, so don’t bash the concept. I only hope it does survive and that the adaptation does the source material justice.
The graphic novel could be amazing, but it’s still NOT going to work as a tv series. It just won’t, and anybody with a clue about tv ratings, what audiences respond to, etc would know this. Yet they got a greenlight simply due to their names. Ridiculous!
wow have you even read it. its fantastic. i have zero faith in fox to make it a good show, but it seems like you are bitter and calling the source material crap without reading it. give it a try then complain about the show convicingly. trust me it really is great
All that matters is that the idiots at Circle of Confusion are not involved to mess the show up. Now it has a chance.
Tell me what happened with Circle of Confusion. I am missing that part of the story.
Wait – no cops, CIA agents, doctors, lawyers or vampires?
Huh.
yeah… because obscure comics have proven time and again to be ratings powerhouses…… fanboyz…….
This is based on a horror series that is quite adaptable for TV written by NY Times best selling author Joe Hill, who happens to be Stephen King’s son. Oh, and produced by the guys who run Fringe. Yes, total flop material.
Whatever – have you even ever read this property that its based on or are you just making judgements based on assumptions?
This is one of my favorite comics and I think it would make a great series. The problem is it should be on cable.Maybe AMC like the Walking Dead. This is a very dark, atmospheric horror/thriller, that involves young children in constant mortal danger.I don’t think that concept is going to fly on network TV.
even fx could do a respactable job and keep it in the sick fox family
Has Friedman learned lessons from Terminator?
Very talented creative. No concept of marketing.
Forget Locke & Key, see John Locke and Ben Linus in “Odd Jobs” starting next year.
I would just like to add that Carla Gugino would be magical in the part of Mrs Locke, shes been a mother before and knows the route.
I love it! I think all the vampire stuff has opened up the door for this and we are going to get tired of vampires. I have teenagers and anything paranormal, horror out of the ordinary they love. I don’t see this show as all horror frightening all the time but with some comedic undertones as well. Good Luck Fox, we will be watching.
the most important thing to me is that they take thier time on the music. i turned fringe off after 3 mins because i couldn’t force myself to sit through its generic michal bay soundtrack
Even if Whatever had read the material, it’s still an assumption/prediction.
