EXCLUSIVE: After a bidding war by multiple networks, Fox has nabbed the rights to a series adaptation of the 2005 hit romantic comedy Hitch. It comes from Will Smith and James Lassiter’s Overbrook Entertainment and The Proposal writer Pete Chiarelli who will pen the project. It’s described as an action-packed one-hour and received a script commitment, plus penalty, from the network. Sony Pictures TV and Overbrook are producing. The movie, which Overbrook co-produced with Sony’s Columbia Pictures, starred Smith as a date doctor. This marks the TV debut for Chiarelli who also is writing feature action comedy Most Wanted, which reunites him with The Proposal stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds and director Anne Fletcher. Overbrook and Sony TV first took a stab at adapting Hitch to series 3 seasons ago when it was developed as a half-hour single-camera comedy at CBS with writer Ben Wexler.

How is hitch an “action packed one hour?” is hitch now a spy who is also a date doctor?
Oh Dear God, they’ve hit rock bottom.
Hater… Will’s laughing all the way to the bank.
Couldn’t have been much of a bidding war if it didn’t even end up with a pilot commitment.
Question, is the main character still going to be black? And if he is, will his girlfriend have to be hispanic?
My question too: Hitch is about a matchmaker. How is it an action movie?
Ever wondered what you find when you scrape the bottom of the barrel so hard you come through to the other side? Thanks to Fox, now we know!
Some of these commenters are hilarious.
I’ll ONLY watch if it stars Kevin James!!
Wow. Hitch as an “action-packed” hour? I don’t get it. This was a romantic comedy – there was no action. And, yes, Will Smith & Sony TV may be laughing all the way to the bank, but what is Fox’s excuse? And there was a bidding war? Why? Not like Will Smith is going to be actual hands-on. His attachment is in name only. And, no, Kevin James will not be involved. You think he wants to give up movies and go back to TV? Even if he did want to return to TV he wouldn’t pick this!
Number 8 on my list of movies that should never, ever be made into a series…
Will Smith; number 2 on my list of actors a network should never, ever get in business with (somebody should have lobbed a call into TNT… just sayin’).
Fox gets rid of a quality show – “Lone Star” ( after two episodes), But , they are quick to rehash another tired remake of a feature film. Beyond ridiculous.
Think ‘Fiddler on a Slippery Roof’.
Maybe it’s a combination of Karate Kid meets Hitch… Jackie Chan in the role of Hitch!
now that would be action packed!
Hey, could be good. A “Love American Style” for the 21st Century
