Fox has picked up more scripts for 2 animated comedy series: veteran American Dad! and midseason
entry Bob’s Burgers. The orders are for 8 American Dad! scripts and 6 Bob’s Burger’s scripts. All episodes from Bob’s Burger‘s original 13-episode order have been read and recorded and are now in various stages of animated production. The script order will keep the show in continuous production and allow for it to return in the fall if renewed by Fox as opposed to midseason if it doesn’t have scripts ready because of the long lead production time for animated series. As for American Dad!, the extra scripts are in lieu of a full-blown seventh season renewal, which is still expected. But with Bob’s Burgers coming out in January and Fox recently ordering 2 new animated series, Napoleon Dynamite and Allen Gregory, Fox seems to be keeping its options open. Ordering extra scripts allows the networks to keep the shows in continuous production but it is a much cheaper option than a straight episodic order in case the networks decide to back out.

Bob’s Burgers is a solid entry for Fox. I’ve seen the lead episode and it’s funnier than what The Simpsons and Family Guy have put on this season(perhaps because it’s something fresh for the animation block). I hope Bob’s catches on as it should.
Interested to see Allen Gregory. Seems like a can’t miss with Jonah Hill behind it.
Napoleon Dynamite? Already not interested, but it’s a strategic move with so much name recognition. The first couple episodes will get numbers just for that.
Umm, could this comment sound more like a representative of a network or possibly an agent?
“Bob’s Burgers is a solid entry for Fox. I’ve seen the lead episode and it’s funnier than what The Simpsons and Family Guy have put on this season”
Well…. I guess we will just have to see, when the ratings roll in in January which is “funnier”: The Simpsons and Family Guy or “Bob’s Burgers”.
PS: I have seen this show on youtube. Yikes. Flash animation next to The Simpsons? What are they thinking? Have these people never seen “Kid Notorious”?
Good point, ratings trumps funny. But the finished version of Bob’s isn’t Flash, it’s standard animation.
Oh, my mistake. I thought it was done in flash. Why does it look so weird then? It doesn’t look like The Simpsons for instance. It looks more like a show on Nickelodeon. Maybe it’s the clips that are on youtube, maybe those are not finished.
Jonah Hill is awful.
Jonah hill is the WORST. WHO would make that guy the center of an animated show? Oh, the same people that think Napoleon Dynamite would be a good idea for a cartoon in 2010.
Bob’s burger is an unpalletable concoction just as reviling as the alleged corpseburgers. poorest animation ever, with the comedy just as foul, ie: Burger of the day:the child molester, comes with candy.”My crotch itches…it’s better now and smells like bacon”
This is not family entertainment do not confuse it with such- hide your children
I never gave “American Dad” a fair shot. I started watching once Netflix for iPhone was released and I zoomed through 6 seasons of the show in a few weeks. IT is definitely better than “Family Guy” right now. The cohesive plots that don’t rely on cutaway gags really is a welcome change.
I hope the show sticks around. I would be mad if after getting caught up on it NOW, it would get canceled.
I love American Dad, too but you can’t really say it has “cohesive plots” with a straight face. It’s funny and Seth’s voices – as both Roger and Stan – are without equal, but the stories make no kind of sense!
Sorry, should have clarified, cohesive compared to “Family Guy”… “Family Guy” starts one place, ends in another, and in the middle it’s a crazy mess of cut away gags. I still watch, but the show hasn’t been as funny as it was the season it came back from cancellation.
American Dad is more straight forward and relies on the characters to do the funny stuff, not on nostalgia. My good friend grew up in Austria as a child. And when we were watching Family Guy, he didn’t get most of the references since they are so child of the 70′s-80′s in USA centric.
H. Jon Benjamin!
Seems like a no brainer, but whatever… WOO-HOO!!!!! LOVE ME SOME AMDAD!!!!!
It really seems that more and more animation is hitting the scene lately. With the stars lending their voices lately, it almost seems like the “in” thing to do in Hollywood lately.

Lots of money but little physical work. Come in on a Saturday and record all of your dialogue for six episodes at a time.
Although I still have no idea why you wouldn’t want actual voice talent (rather than big names). Those are the people who can do 30-40 characters and still be paid a regular salary.
American Dad is a proven show. It’s an insult to ask them to write scripts when there are syndication billboards going up all over town.
Bob’s Burgers is ok, but not testing well and known internally as a bit of a disappointment.
Say what you will creatively about Seth MacFarlane’s domination, but at least the guy delivers a proven product that rates well.
BIG fan of American Dad. Happy to see they are still making it. It’s really come into it’s own over the last few seasons. Curious about BB’s. And yes, that 1st post reeks of agent.
I love American Dad.. even more than Family Guy! Roger’s the best!
American Dad looks way better than that cheap looking flash animation crap that look like those fan-made internet videos
I don’t get it – why only order 8 more “American Dad” scripts? I LOVE that show! 8 just doesn’t seem like enough??
I have really been getting into American Dad and I really like the characters. It feels more original than other shows so I would be bummed if it were cancelled.
American Dad has really been picking up steam these last few years. Roger is hilarious, and the Smiths are a Sitcom family I regularly enjoy coming back to each week. I certainly hope we can all look forward to several more seasons of American Dad… at least for how ever much longer Family Guy goes… you can’t break the family up! I’m not entirely sure how Napoleon Dynamite will do since it hasn’t been relevant for years… and I’m not exactly looking forward to all those impersonations again. (Gosh).
YES!!!
American Dad is my favorite show!!
ROGER RULES!!!
I LOVE me some Americand Dad!! I’ve been stuck on it since Season 4. I Tivo all the episodes on Fox, TBS and it’s apparently on KTLA channel 5 as well. Quite frankly, I find it to be the better of the 3 MacFarlane shows, HANDS. DOWN!!! Awesome storylines the last couple of season. :0)
I’ve heard the same about Bob’s. Not as exciting as you’d think or hope.
Best to all.
Thank you.
The Art direction on Bob’s is hideous. It lacks the polish that I would imagine a prime time Animated program needs, and quite frankly is expected. If there is anything in the current lineup that needs to step aside, the obvious answer is the Cleveland Show. American Dad! is both smarter and funnier than the Simpsons, and TCS, and for my money, Gives Family Guy a pretty fair fight. Not a Giant Chicken fight, but a fight nonetheless. GO AMDAD!
“Buckle up Kids, they’re gonna have to go to the Hospital” LOL, love that Roger line.
I guess BOB’s BURGERS is not a Seth Show? I was thinking it was…
I suppose a guy can only have so many shows… either way, Very happy to hear AMDad will continue…. I’ll give BOB’s a shot.
DONT’ DISAPPOINT ME BOB!!!!
American Dad is an awesome show, a classic. Weird to me that its never gotten the respect it deserves. Way funnier than FamGuy or Simpsons. My friends and me all quote Roger lines every week. I can’t wait to buy the 10 seasons DVD box set one day. I hope FOX isn’t stupid enough to cancel it but leave on any of the other crap they have. In general, I will watch whatever new animated shows Fox puts on, put I loves me some American Dad!
I really feel American dad being replaced by any of these shows mentioned, will be a mistake. American Dad has tasteful humor, and is very well put together. It even has more jokes that is influential to the audience.
Not to mention that FOX has had more canceled shows than any other network because they wanted to try something new due to ratings, which turned out to be a disaster.
I want to keep American Dad!
Why question Seth MacFarlane? The guy is king of animation, his shows are all funny as hell. American Dad is hilarious, it’s ridiculous if they don’t renew it. C’mon Fox, don’t be dumb!
They won’t cancel any of the Seth shows, not while he’s still under contract, that would make Fox look bad.
I was flipping through the channels one time and saw American Dad on one of the cable channels. I was hooked! Now I can’t wait to watch the Sunday shows. I hope they keep it.
I hope American Dad keeps on going and going.
FOX,
Please don’t f*with The Trinity. (memba Sons of Tucson????? see what happens…)
<3 me
Oh man, FOX better not make the same dumb mistake they made in the past with canceling Family Guy then bringing it back, to AMERICAN DAD! I’ve been watching the show since about 3rd season and it has gotten SO MUCH progressively better and better with every season!! I watched the characters mold themselves into what they are now. I LOOOOOOOOVE ROGER!!!
In my opinion, by far the best of the 3 MacFarlane shows, no doubt! I love ending my Sunday nights with American Dad! KEEP IT FOX!!!
