UPDATE: Fox Networks and Dish Network are yet to start talks about restoring FX, National Geographic Channel and 19 regional sports networks on Dish systems. The cable networks were pulled at midnight after the two sides couldn’t reach an agreement on a new carriage deal, with talks breaking off shortly before the midnight deadline. In the meanwhile, accusations are flying from both sides. “Fox is demanding a new contract with an unprecedented rate increase of more than 50 percent,” Dish said in a statement. “Fox has flatly refused DISH Network’s request to allow customers to continue to watch these Fox channels during the negotiations.” Fox is vigorously disputing both claims, calling the 50% figure “absurd” and stating that it was Dish that refused to keep the networks on while negotiations continue and it never asked for an extension of the two sides’ existing deal. “The proposal we’ve offered DISH is fair and in line with the tremendous value we provide,” Fox Networks said in a statement. With the carriage dispute on the cable side escalating, Fox and Dish have not even started discussing a new retransmission consent agreement for the Fox stations as the current one expires at the end of the month. Those talks will certainly include a demand for retransmission consent fees by Fox, something that put the company at odds with Time Warner Cable in December and threatened the network’s coverage of the college football championship games. Similarly, the end of Fox stations’ agreement with Dish will coincide with the network’s coverage of the World Series.
PREVIOUS 4:45AM: Oh no, not again! Multichannel News is reporting that Fox networks pulled a handful of cable channels and regional sports networks from Dish Network today just as the midnight(Pacific Time) deadline passed without a carriage agreement. This could “possibly set the tone for a much nastier retransmission consent fight for Fox broadcasting stations next month,” the cable trade says. As expected, Fox pulled FX, National Geographic Channel and 19 regional sports networks from Dish subscribers.
It’s already nasty, with Dish SVP of programming Dave Shull saying in a statement his company won’t be bullied. “Fox has a long history of trying to shake down pay TV providers, including Cablevision, Time Warner, and Bright House.” Dish countered by giving its customers a bunch of free channels like: HD Net Movies and HD Theater, as well as NFL Network and Big Ten Network. But this cable dispute is only the beginning: there’s another retrans fight looming November 1st between the satellite giant and Fox broadcast and MyNetwork TV stations. Meanwhile Fox suggests Dish subscribers switch to DirecTV, FiOs, AT&T U-Verse or local cable.

Just in time for Google TV.
To let Dish customers loose some of the best programming. Sat down last night to watch Sons of Anarchy and without our knowledge it was pulled. Which means a great NFL pre-game show in now lost to us as well, Terry, Howie, Mike and Jimmy! The best entertainment and knowledgeable group!! I won’t let these shows go, I’ll just go to Dish! See ya loser satellite company!!
i am trying to watch a game on center ice and i can not watch it due to the fox/dish issue
this sux
Funny how these retrans battles have become a lot more frequent since the 08 financial crisis and accompanying advertising slump. Fox is doing all it can to shore up its carriage rates in a day and age when just about every affluent viewer has the ability to fast forward through commercials. What Fox really needs is their own premium, commercial free channel. I would happily pay 7-10 bucks a month for commercial-free FX.
Glad all of a sudden that I have DirecTV. Yes, it took about 3 months to get NatGeoWild but at least we had Fox Reality. This is going to hurt DISH more than that. Especially since FOX is suggesting to viewers to leave DISH and go to other sources. FOX knows that they need viewers and the way to get them is to switch up to other carriers.
FOX may control the Republican Party, but thank goodness they don’t control DISH Network.
I miss some of the programs, but I back DISH Network 100%
I’m right there with ya! This is just Murdoch’s way of getting people to leave DishTV to join his DirectTv. I just got off the phone with an operator and told them they have my support! This is just greed through and through!
The FX channel hasn’t had anything awesome for almost five years. I remember when it was cool.
As for Fox news channel, that channel is full of so many lies. I’m a conservative yet when they where all saying that Obama is a terrorist during the election than I stopped watching. I will always vote republican, but I won’t be watching that channel that OPENLY and unfairly says lies opponents.
Rescue Me, Louie, It’s Always Sunny, Eddie Izzard’s “The Riches”(now gone). . . . There’s been plenty worth watching on F/X.
“Louie” alone is worth keeping F/X around.
“I’m a conservative yet when they where all saying that Obama is a terrorist during the election than I stopped watching.”
No personality on FNC ever said that and I’m guessing you’re no conservative. It just sounds so much better to say you are in this argument, doesn’t it?
I am sick of all the fuss about our PRESIDENT. The law makers are the ones who need to go. Don’t re-elect anyone. Get some new ones. It seems like they are all the same after one term.
Oh Yea they get a pay raise whenever they want one. Not the people who need one.
Our Texas republican governor is a millionaire after drawing a government check for 25 years. Wonder what he made his millions from???????
FoxNews is certainly has a bias with its OP-ED shows….but so does the NYTimes
They never called barry a terrorist and your assertion is a joke.
sons of anarchy is a great show
this really sucks:/i have dish and wont be able to watch the sons of anarchy.and for me to cancel with dish it would cost $380:( not cool!!now i cant watch my fav show!!
We contracted with DISH for a package including FX. They’re in breach of contract by not providing what they promised. Canceling shouldn’t cost anything (other than a lot of arguing with the DISH collectors).
I’ll be shopping my TV (but I WON’T go with DirecTV – after 10 years with them, I know that they’re the worst at ripping off their customers!)
i tried to record sons of anarchy and rescue me for my husband last week, and realized f/x was no longer on our DISH. We choose our package with DISH because of the programming. I understand that FOX is greedy and in these hard economic times for most of us, they should not have to lose one penny. I also understand DISH is greedy, and they feel the same. Our contract with DISH apparently is meaningless. I called DISH twice, they offered me three free PPV movies to compensate. Yea. My prayers have been answered, maybe i should call FOX and get…
well, their contract states that they can change pricing and programming. But in a seperate section it says that they will notify you of any changes. I will be trying to cancel my contract with them; alot of yelling will be involved. I refuse to pay for something that I am not going to receive. I signed my contract on 9/30/10. ONE DAY BEFORE THIS HAPPENED!!! Even when I called to figue out why SOA wasnt playing on Tue night, the first phone rep confirmed what channel FX was on. Only when we asked “why isn’t it showing the usual programming” did she place us on hold then advise us on this FOX dispute. Oh, but to make up for this they have given us alt programing. I dont give a S*** about your alt programing…I want the programing that I am paying for!!!
Are you going to cancel Dish? Are there any penalties involved? We’ve had ours since July,2010 and I miss FX and I won’t be without Fox.
Sons of Anarchy will be available for viewing 30 days after original air date on many internet site such as FX and HULU.
just switch. i’m thinking about paying the money for contract breaking with dish tv an doing it. my wife and i usually buy two season tickets to st louis blues games, but didnt this year because we can’t even watch the games, so why bother. been having to watch blackhawks games instead. screw fox.
The real loosers are the consumers like me that will cancel their Dish subscription due to not carrying channels that I watch anymore. This will cost me $110.00 to cancel my contract.
Then who, exactly, are the “tighters” in this situation?
I foolishly switched to Dish 2 weeks ago and specifically asked if they carried Fox Sports as was told yes. Now I have to pay over $200 to get out of this contract!! I have talked to their so called legal department which has no legal people.. Nothing, now I am going to the BBB to try to get help.
I called Dish to add a sports package at 7.95/mo in order to see Baylor play TX Tech in the Cotton Bowl. The representative happily sold me the package but failed to inform me the game I was buying was blacked out in my area.
It will not cost you anything to cancel your contract Dish is the one that violated the contract you payed for these channels and they are no longer suppling them.
I am curious, tell me how to get out of paying the early termination fee. I read the contract and conviently it says nothing about the programing. Just spells out prorata basis and equipment. My contract was for 24 mo, used 4mos, so $250.00 is what I will owe.
Good news is DirecTV offered me a $200.00 Visa card as a returning customer incentive. That is what made my mind up. You must call and request the credit. Also got other goodies, free HD DVR, HD Receiver, free HD access(24 mos). Had my service hooked up this morning. Also will get 29.00 off per mo for 12 mos. Actually my bill will be less with DirecTV. So I am out $50.00. Also had to pay 21.35 for handling fee. I can live with that.
To bad Dish doesn’t pull FOX News Channel. I waited 7 months for Dish Network to reinstate our local ABC channel a few years ago. This could take a long time. lol
I’m surprised Dish didn’t dump Fox News in retaliation!
That would bring Fox back to the table real quick!
Fox News may not be included in this dispute. Fox News and Fox Business Channel are managed out of a separate corner of News Corp (Fox Stations Group, run by Roger Ailes), not Tony Vinciquerra’s Fox Networks Group.
Great News
DISH Loses Fox, MSG Programming
According to DISH, Fox has requested a rate increase of “more then 50 percent” and have refused their request to keep the stations on during negotiations.
Well from the consumer prospective I say GREAT for DISH – they should never need to pay more then a 1 or 2 percent increase (if that much) for any programming during a renewal. Granted I will miss my National Geographic, but I will survive, as for the sports programming “there is only so much sports I can watch and losing the FOX channels will not affect me in the least – hopefully I will also lose FOX News (What a joke).”
For those companies that own the programs, you need to understand many consumers are getting greatly unhappy with the constant increases in prices for getting their entertainment. Most of which can be attributed to you. Program owners need to remember the Golden Rule “You need the consumer”, otherwise when you sell advertising for your programs you are not going to be able to charge very much with no one watching. I assume the loss of income would also not make your shareholders happy.
Consumers need to remember, without us “the consumers” program owners have nothing. As it is we are paying for a show that has already been paid for with advertising dollars, giving the program owner additional income. That is fine within reason, but the owners need to be looking at increasing the advertising dollars – which will of course increase with the increase in the number of people who watch the show, therefore they should be ATTEMPTING to keep costs to the consumer as low as possible to gain more viewers and drive up advertising pricing.
On a related note:
Advertisers are your rates going down since millions of views can no longer view your advertising? You need to step in and make sure you are not overpaying for viewers that can no longer view your advertising. Are you getting a refund from FOX for your advertising? I doubt it.
Again Great move on DISH’S part, however will this also lower my monthly payment to DISH? I doubt it; however DISH as an entertainment operator needs to remember to take care of its customers on both sides of these issues when they occur.
Renewals like this need to become MUCH MORE PUBLIC as it is the consumer that ultimately suffers regardless of the outcome. As a consumer I want to know what FOX is getting for “allowing its programs to be viewed by me”!

Ivy, before you start trashing other people who make comments than get your facts straight because your coming off like a d-bag. Pete is right. Sean Hannity said during EVERY damned show (during the election for President) how Obama is a terrorist, in order to get people to not vote for him. That is what Fox news is all about: lies that only dumb trailer trash like you fall for. : )
I don’t watch FOX on a regular basis, but Pete is probably right about the other shows on there as well.
FOX makes so many OBVIOUS and out of context lies that comedian Steven Colbert actually shows clips of those fake news journalists on Fox lying and contradicting themselves.
I believe when Pete says he’s a republican because with liars like FOX news on there side than who needs enemies.
Give me a break Logic Man.
Show me ONE clip where Sean Hannity says Obama is a terrorist. Just one.
I’ll wait here patiently…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndsMWT_ZAM4 Hey Ivy, here you go. Hannity doesn’t come right out and say it, but he definitely implies it. If you really believe fox is “fair and balanced,” you’re dumber than Megyn Kelly.
big companies don’t know what they are doing. The sales people sell you something, then the installers don’t know what was sold and then the billing people get involved and the consumer does not know where to turn. VERIZON is the worst. You really better watch your bill.
Logic Man and Aaron,
As usual, neither of you can prove what you say. As usual, liberals have to call names and get out of whack. That is because you people ARE whacked. You are gloating because Fox is cancelled and you would be livid if you lib leaning and definitely lying CNN news channel were cancelled. Where would you get all of your lies from then? GEe, you might be forced to watch Fox and be enlightened for once…shudder to think…oh, wait, no, that is the problem…liberals DON’T think. they just allow CNN and MSNBC and ABC and CBS to spoonfeed them their next agenda. Toodles!
Love Directv, the best provider, bar none. How come it seems they’re never involved in these sort of disputes
Btw, I’m cool with anyone hating on FNC but I like it with the exception of some of the talk shows. Plus no one can deny it’s a nice alternative for the mostly and vastly mouthpiece that are most other networks for the liberal side.
what about Direct TV and Versus? I went back to Dish because I could no longer see Versus. So they have had disputes too.
I appreciate Fox’s suggestion, but we will not be bullied into switching from Dish to DirecTV in order to support what sounds like an unreasonable rate increase for programming. If the programming itself were 50% better,I could see it, but that’s not the case. For our demographic, “Terriers” is probably the only series we’ll miss, and we can go to someplace that serves good cheeseburgers and cold beer to watch the football games.
Oh GREAT!!! just in time for the NHL Hockey season.
I have had Dish-TV “full package” for the last 5 years and always get Center Ice for the NHL season so hopefully I will still get most of the games BUT living in Las Vegas, which is a “LA Region” for sports programming, this means NO Kings or Ducks games.
as far as I can ses, this is just another example of the corporate greed that is destroying America.
I do remember when Dish had the dispute with Lifetime on rates. It was finally settled but the customer ended up paying for the rate increase after a year. I do not care if you have Dish, Direct TV, Comcast, Cox, …., the providers should offer a pick/choose channel lineup. This way if you do not want Fox, Lifeline, TLC, ….. you do not have to pay for it, the provider then should not have to pay to FOX, Lifeline, TLC, …. there cost should only be based on the subscriber for that service. I do know some of the contracts with Fox, Lifeline, TLC, ….. say then need to be packaged with a certain tier level, but Dish and the consumer need to push to get away from that type of pricing.
Dish just ended their big fight with Tivo — and lost, I am waiting for the customer to pick up that cost.
I been a customer for over 10 years and the only real complaint I ever had with Dish was when my high end JVC recever/VHS quit and I had a service contract with Dish, they replaced with with a low end PVR receiver. The only other issue I have with Dish is that they offer nothing to old customers to up-grade their equipment, I would love a swingbox receiver to replace my low-end box they gave me but they offer no deals.
HI..
I’m surprised you mentioned that Dish replaced your JVC with a low end DVR.
About 2 yrs ago, Dish sent me a letter and asked me to call them in order to upgrade my Dish DVR (I forgot the model) to a VIP722 DVR. There were no strings attached. A Dish guy even came out to do the replacement. I’ve been with them for 10 yrs as well. I left DirecTV prior to signing up with Dish because they (Directv) stubbornly refused to cancel a service contract I never approved. Get this…I was forced to pay $60, otherwise they threatened to report me to the credit bureau. I filed a complaint with state attorney general, but nothing was ever done. I’ll NEVER go back to Directv. I paid my bills to them like clockwork from ’94 to ’00, but that didn’t matter to them.
You guys that are criticizing FNC for “lies” need to rethink that.
MSNBC is the official Obama Network. They lie full time to the public. If you have half a brain, you can easily figure out their lies. Talk about a biased network. No wonder they’re in the pit when it comes to ratings. No one watches them.
Besides, this conflict between Fox and DISH, has nothing to do with the side of the house that manages Fox News and Fox Business.
so what i would like to know is, since i no longer get the programming i signed up for, cant i cancel ny contract w/o paying the fee due to their breach?
No you can’t, the contract and the agents when signing up state, “prices and programing subject to change, without notice.” Any time a customer changes their programming they have me say that, on the phone, so sorry. Your in a catch 22.
While I agree that many of these negotiations are trivial and lead to nothing but the fat cats from dish network and fox networks wanting to line their pockets. I understand where both are coming from but I will be the first to say I will change my service if this last more than a month. This is crap, I work 11 hours a day 5 days a week and the only thing that brightens up my drab work week is being able to watch sons of anarchy and the league and it’s always sunny in philadelphia. I pay $80 a month for dish network and they give me the NHL cnhannel for this dispute, hello I’m from the United States I don’t care about hockey if there were more games between ovechkin and crosby yeah, but HDMNT is absolute garbage. I never watched fried green tomatoes and driving miss daisy in the 40 years that they’ve been out and I certainly don’t want to see them now. Resolve the issues fix this issue or I promise you dish will suffer from massive customer turnover. and I’ll just put my money in fox’s pocket and now into Sony’s by downloading my favorite shows on my ps3 and just disconnect dish altogether and go to a local cable company. It’s hard to believe after 15 years with Dish they would be so petty and Fox would be so greedy over carriage fees.
I SO agree with everything you said. And I too would like to know if I can cancel since DISH has broken their contract with me by not carrying what I signed up for and not have to pay. FOX.. WE will have to pay for that ungodly increase. Get real! SOA is the highlight of my week. I am sick of paying high $$ for my entertainment and then having those companies making all their millions from us as customers punishing us during their greedy fights.
To those of you who have made comments blasting fox news you obviously dont watch. It is the most fair an balanced news network on tv.an I agree with the other person. No one on fox news ever called obama a terrorist. thats just a ridiculous statement
Well, this just sucks, doesn’t it. If Dishnetwork had problems with many or more of the channels they offer, I might consider changing to another carrier. This sounds like Fox is getting greedy. If Dish isn’t being honest about the conditions of the negotiations, then why isn’t Fox forthcoming with what they are asking for? Sounds like the usual Fox inuendo reporting. So, with this, I guess I’ll just wait for Netflix to carry what I’d like to see.
Are you kidding me??? Fox knows they have us by the horns. We’re already hooked on the shows and looking forward to the sports events, and now they cut off our service. They know that most of us will agree to higher rates because we love the channels they provide. In my opinion, as long as Dish Network has contracts with us and if FX was part of our contract, Dish should have to pay the difference of the rate increase. I understand that if I renew my contract with Dish, in order to have FX, I would have to pay the increase after signing a new contract. But while I’m under my current contract, it should be Dish’s responsible to make sure I have what I pay for. As for Fox Network, a 55% rate increase is totaly over the top…….have you looked at our economy???? You guys need to get real, because when all is said and done, we the customers, won’t forget that you tried to stick it to us when things were rough.
I switched to Dish during the DirecTV/Versus fiasco. Now it’s even worse for this hockey fan. Dish claims they are offering ‘free’ channels to make up for FSN – most of which I already get. Will my bill will decrease as a result? Get real. Dish “created a series of websites to inform customers”; seven websites that say Fox is greedy. Dish wants it’s customers to call Fox. Is this so Fox will know how many Dish customers are irate? I’d think Fox would use that feedback to stand its ground. Dish refused compensating NHL Center Ice programing until this dispute is settled. Maybe trying to sell more Center Ice subscriptions is part of their plan. Dish isn’t prepared to do anything about this EXCEPT remind me I have a service contract with them. How does that work? I’m not the one that broke the contract. If I cancel, I’ll pay them by FedEx’ing a box of quarters to the greedy bastards. Maybe Congress could – oh wait, they went on vacation to avoid looking like they aren’t renewing the tax breaks that are expiring. Guess we are on our own, helpless victims of corporate greed on all sides. Best of luck to us all.
I guess Dish doesn’t care if everyone just starts watching all their TV on the internet!
I agree–existing customers get no break when new items are offered. I had to cancel my service and resubscribe under another name to get a better deal with a DVR. If you wait around they give you specials that they won’t give their regular customers as a reward for their years of paying. They haven’t got a clue! They just keep increasing their fees, what a joke.
This is addressed to The folks at Dish Network. Gentlemen, I am the person that pays you about $100.00 per month to enjoy what I contracted to see. I would complain to Fox, but the simple fact is I do not have a contract with them, only you. I realize that complaints are flying towards both parties, but Dish Network, my contract is with you. You offered me a selection of channels that I could subscribed to, and I expect you to honor your contract with me, as I have honored my contract with you. It is none of my business how much you pay to fox, or any of the other networks for that matter. Contracts mean something in this country. It is your contractual duty to honor your contracts with your customers, or to request permission of your customers to renegotiate your contract with your customers. You discontinued service to some of the channels that you were under contract to provide to me. This was done without notice, nor was there an offer to compensate me for your failure to provide the service that you were under contract to provide. This represents very poor customer service and is not doing your image any favors. Suggest that you get this matter resolved or I will seek a service that will provide the channels that I like, and obtain under contract.

So is there any way to put together a class action lawsuit against DISH?
Class Action? For What? Because you all dont read a single line of anything you sign? Heres the link to the contract you all signed.. http://www.dishnetwork.com/downloads/legal/RCA.pdf Want a copy with your signature just call and ask for it.
Grow up and take responsibility for your own actions. You signed it. You have to deal with it.
As for the channels coming down that is bad. But blame FOX. Dish is trying to save you money. If you dont mind paying 2-3 dollars a month more than send an email to ceo@dishnetwork.com and let Charlie Ergen know.
I have now been contacting the advertisers, and boycotting their products until the channels are back and telling everyone I know.
I thought about switching, but what about when their contract is up?
If Fox wins, what happens when ABC who has ESPN and Disney contract comes up or any of the other networks?
The customer is screwed!
Beth
I am looking at it from two points of view, ok so as a customer, I don’t want my rates to go up. And, as an employee at Dish Network, it makes my day harder, we are getting alot of calls from upset people. At least, Dish is giving people credit to watch the shows they are missing on ITunes the next day. And people that have the sport pack are getting their $7/month back, you have to call and ask, though. In the end it is the people in the middle that are the ones that are hurting hit the most, from the customer and the employees.
Hey I could care less about all the politics cuz at the end of the day I just wanted to watch the best show on tv SONS OF ANARCHY!!!!!
I watch a grand total of one (Sons of Anarchy) and one-half of another (Rescue Me) shows on FX. I make it a religious point to avoid even the briefest of any at all encounter with what Fox likes to think of as their “news,” and I could give a rat’s ass about their sports coverage.
As much as I do enjoy the two shows I watch on FX, I enjoy watching two other shows, one on HBO: In Treatment, the other on Showtime, Weeds, much more.
I believe the two latter are far superior to the two former in every precinct. Yep, this is certainly a matter of personal opinion, who cares what I believe, I know I don’t…still, it’s a free country and I’m very happy to give Dish extra money so I can access premium channels which offer programming that is sophisticated and willing to take risks.
In addition, Fox has demonstrated its need for greed and complete disregard for everybody else by deciding to pull their shows from paying subscribers during this negotiation phase.
An all around mean and creepy tactic. As my old Irish and kinda very polite grandpa would’ve said: “Well, fuckyaverymuch.”
If Fox feels program deprivation/stalled negotiations will cause the public to pressure Dish to bring them back by any means necessary, the solution might be for Dish to give Fox premium status and charge fans to watch.
Oh. What? Indeed. Quote my old Irish grandpa would be my response to that…
I wholeheartedly applaud Dish for refusing to be taken hostage by Fox and pass buck on to us subscribers. I hope they’ll continue to do so. Plenty of people support Dish — and lots of of us could care less whether Fox falls off the side of the earth tomorrow.
And, damn, I’m a biker, so I really do like and miss Sons of Anarchy.
