Looking to beef up its place in the independent film finance/distribution arenas, Gersh has promoted to partner Jay Cohen, the producer who last year joined the agency to spearhead the department. Gersh has also hired producer Jennifer Dana to work closely with Cohen to package projects and work with film funds. Dana is in post-production on the Emma Roberts-Freddie Highmore film Homework, which she produced under her Mint Pictures banner. She formed her producing company after a stint with Andrew Lauren Productions. Among the film funds repped by Gersh are Queen Nefertari Productions, Northern Lights Films and Ketchup Media. The agency is also looking to secure offshore equity from Columbia, UK and China.
“This is an important and necessary step for the growth and expansion of the agency,” co-presidents Bob and David Gersh said in a statement. “In today’s climate it is vital not only to be representing clients but also helping to secure the financing and package films for them. Under the leadership of Jay Cohen and with the added expertise of Jennifer Dana, we have a very strong and capable division that will bring numerous benefits to our clientele.”
The 61-year old agency recently lost agents Sarah Self and David Kopple, the latter of whom landed at CAA.

I wonder if this is a coincidental addition that was in the works–or a reactionary move due to the loss several agents.
?
All of this is great if they’re willing to think and look outside the box when considering content.
Like what? Some dude who posts on a blog with a name that links to his twitter account, where he has ideas listed for projects????
Jay is awesome! Congrats!
Where is superstar agent sarah self going?
I am betting the initials start with a C
Or a W
She has great taste and is a real person unlike 99.875% of the agents out there!
Anyone know anything?
Jen has amazing taste, actually READS and is a good person to boot. They are lucky to have her!
Sarah is dope. She is an agent who reads.
I repear she actually reads scripts.
And then after she has real thoughts that are her own and aren’t off some interns coverage.
Either WME and CAA should give her boatloads.
And hey UTA you need this Sarah.
We have come together as the heads of the other Five Families, and took a vote and everyone of us wishes we had Jay Cohen running our Packaging divisions.
We figure that if we keep stealing major clients and their subpar agents from Gersh, we can put them out of business and Jay will have no choice but to join us. He is a bit of an asshole, brutally honest, a know it all, and quite possibly may be a closeted cannibal, but atleast he will make us a ton of money, and won’t stab us In the back when he is screwing us over in 10 years and stealing all of our biggest clients to start his own agency, hell do it right out in the open!
Let our evil plan commence muahhhhhahahahahamuahahahaha
I hope noone finds out we secretly planted robots in place of the Gersh brothers to speed this plan up. He will be ours… Oh yes he will be ours muahahahahaha
They made the right choice in upping MR Cohen, he is a gentleman and a hard worker, they are lucky to have him. Every agency should only be hiring producers to their packaging divisions, More movies would get made. Let’s see if Gersh keeps making decisions this smart.
Jay is an amazing producer with great relationships all over town. He has launched many actors and director’s careers. He also made a little move that is one of the all time greats, Swimming with Sharks. He knows what he is doing and this is a great move for Gersh. Go Jay!!!!
you are funny, but thanks friend of mamaz boy
wow, what a huge coup, Mr. Cohen. way to hire someone with little experience who could never challenge your position there. hopefully this department has more success than Kate Hudson’s company…
@ HA
Actually. If I wanted to promote my ideas I would’ve. All the so called “insiders” like yourself are finding it harder to pretend to earn a living while hanging at the Coffee Bean so I know what my chances are. This is my hobby. Nothing more.
Do yourself a favor and stop worrying about me and figure out how you’re gonna pay your rent before you end up back in fly over country with your tail between your legs. I know times are bad when I see so many people like you turning on each other. I’m just enjoying the show.
Also a shoutout to their fantastic coordinator Stephen Stanley, who works under Jay. A class act!
Jay reads. HA. btw what was the last film the Gersh film fund actually financed? What is on their slate? Exactly.
Jay Cohen is the best thing to happen to Gersh. A class act, indeed.
Hey Oldmantime…. It sounds like someone is a tad bit jealous that they were passed over for this job. Sounds like they made the right choice by choosing a talent like Jen Dana and not choosing you. Jen is an amazing producer and has made more movies in the past 10 years than you have or will in your entire life. And I am sure had she not been hired she wouldnt be posting on deadline hollywood to insult the person who beat her. Here is some advice from Wilma Rudolph and Myself.
“Winning is great, sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose. Nobody goes undefeated all the time. If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday.” Wilma Rudolph.
You clearly haven’t learned yet… hopefully this helps.
