Dax Shepard has slipped Deadline a trailer for his directorial Brother’s Justice, which premiered at the Austin Film Festival a week ago and is currently being shopped for distribution. The premise: Shepard, a comedy star, wants to reinvent himself as an internationally renowned martial arts star, except that not only is he not internationally renowned, he doesn’t even have any formal martial arts training. Can’t put my finger on why, but this guy has always cracked me up in films like Mike Judge’s Idiocracy. Shepard co-directed Brother’s Justice with David Palmer. The inept martial artist formula launched Danny McBride in The Foot Fist Way, so maybe Dax is onto something.

I really wish I hadn’t just heard him say ‘fag fighting’ in this trailer….
Since when is Dax Shepard talented? Since he started dating Kristen Bell? Did he even get work before that?
What the fuck? No, no.
I laughed at least every 10 seconds of this preview – a great sign for a comedy. I agree that Dax Shepard is perpetually hilarious – that plus a funny premise and great company makes for an awesome movie. Hope someone picks it up soon!
The whole thing put me to sleep. Not remotely funny to anyone outside of the Hollywood BS machine. Why can’t Hollywood realize that normal people don’t give a fuck about its self-absorbed business? Get over yourselves, no one gives a shit.
Truth Det,
The fact that you didn’t get promoted to agent at Gersh still bothering you? How comfy was that Greyhound bus on your way back home to Kansas? Asst Manager at Rite Aid sounds like a great career to me.
Best,
Self-absorbed Film Businessman
PS – this trailer is HILARIOUS.
Wow, you really put me in my place. All of us inferior non-Hollywood types have no right to state the obvious or even share the putrid air in LA-LA-Land with all of you “artists”.
It might make money in Santa Monica, West LA, and Archlight Hollywood, but the rest of the country won’t give a damn about this crapfest. Sometimes reality sucks, so deal with it.
How did you know we all call it “La-la-land”? I thought that was a totally local, industry thing. Have you been secretly hanging out at Archlight Hollywood?
Gotta agree with Truth D. No one middle America gives one crap about the behind-the-scenes stuff cuz the Industry is just rich people who, if they don’t get a job or get their movies made, go back to their 90210 mansions and drink fancy bottles of wine and wipe their croco tears. As for middle America, if they don’t get a job, their family could end up homeless or worse.
As for the trailer, it was kinda funny. But as I was watching it, I thought that nobody in Wisconsin or Texas or Ohio gives a shit.
Just out of interest, if you don’t care in the least about what goes in in this “self absorbed business”, then why the hell are you visiting a website devoted to covering what goes on in this “self absorbed industry”? Seems someone is either lying to us or themselves.
How about a YouTube/Vimeo or other HTML5 embed or link?
Looks great!
There were a lot of stars in that. There were not a lot of laughs.
Hey Truth Detective, if you don’t care about Hollywood so much, why are you trolling this site? Just sayin.
I laughed more than once. Smiled a lot.
More than I can say for DUE DATE!
I checked out this movie at the Hollywood Film Festival. My friends and I that went together were cracking up through the entire thing. Tom Arnold’s comedic delivery in this movie was so on point that it pleasantly sideswiped me a bit as I had never been the big fan. What might have surprised me the most was how much buddy comedy heart the film had going for it underneath all of the humor. Great talent and definitely worth checking out.
For “Oh Dear”: the “fag fighting” comment in the trailer is a re-visit gag from earlier in the movie when Dax gets his ass kicked in some Jiu-Jitsu training and it ends with what I thought was a funny reveal on a motorcycle begging to question if Dax is a frustrated homophob with no fighting skills or just a closeted homosexual with no fighting skills. You can step down from your soapbox now.
porn quality at best…no women…no audience
Oh hell yes! I just saw this at the Austin Film Fest and loved it. It’s a really fun premise pulled off by some hilarious dudes. It has one-liners that I’m still repeating. Hope it gets a theatrical release.
I concur. Saw it at Austin and laughed my ass off. So, so funny.
I’m a fan of anyone in this town that can make fun of themselves. Dax always delivers and I hear he’s a really great guy. Can’t wait to see this film.
Film Rookie. I’m only going on what I saw in the trailer. As I haven’t seen the movie, how am I, or anyone else, supposed to know what that means? Or, was the trailer going for a cheap laugh?
