A trailer has been released for Sanctum, the James Cameron-produced feature that Alister Grierson directed based on the natural mishap that befell a team of cave divers in Australia. The film will be released February 4, and is considered an important next step in Cameron’s evolution of 3D technology for films that don’t have to be made on the budget scale of Avatar, but look superior to films shot in 2D and then converted. The $30 million film, financed by Wayfare Entertainment, was scripted Andrew Wight and John Garvin. The drama is based on the near-death experience of Wight, who has collaborated with Cameron on such docus as Aliens of the Deep and Ghosts of the Abyss, and who led the perilous dive expedition.

Oh my, it looks dreadful.
Fingerprints of a hack writer all over the trailer:
So, one of the guys had a dad who was one of the best cave explorers in the whole world? Man, that must be some shadow to live in. I mean, this is such a fresh and interesting take on a character…will the self-doubting son be able to somehow prove himself by the end of the movie??? Like anyone will care.
“The cave is flooding!”
“Ya think?”
Man, that is some sparkling dialogue.
Did Cameron write this himself?
Agreed. I cringed with just about every line.
Is this really Journey to the Center of the Earth 2?
Hilariously dreadful. When the music started to swell at the end all I could think of was Goonies!
An interesting movie and I want to find out how they survive. I guess surviving deep in the water is the hardest thing that will ever happen in human. Good if you have all the gadgets that you need, but unfortunate for those who will survive with nothing to depend on.
Is it just me or do HD cams make everything campy and cheap looking? Yeah film doesn’t have the detail of HD, but something about that made a movie look pristine. This just looks like someone picked up a camcorder and went into a cave with a couple name actors.
Anything shot without a truly competent DP will look campy and cheap.
I guess I am in the minority but I think this looks pretty good, fun intense action drama flick.
Looks like an Aussie B-movie from start to finish. And the trailer reminded me of 2000′s Vertical Limit (which is at least entertaining).
The Title looks like it was inspired by the scene from Incredibles where Mr Incredible is hiding in the cave from the sentinel robot thingy and discovering, when taking the vantage point of Gazerbeam’s skeleton – the word “KRONOS” burned into the wall and through the stalactites and mites.
Looks like a sequel to Avatar… I mean Pochahontas! Or I mean…
This actually looks entertaining – it is going to make a truckload of money. Cameron will get 3D right too.
Sanctum? I don’t even know ‘im.
Visually, I’m sure this will be grand. And If they truly shot in cave environments then HD is really the only way they could have captured the imagery.
THE DESCENT meets SHOWGIRLS
I actually got to see some of the footage in Vegas at CES.
It HURT.
They’re pushing the 3D way too much.
